The Clinton Police Department issued the following press release and video.
Clinton, Miss. (September 8, 2016) Clinton Police are seeking assistance from the public to identify the suspect in a recent credit card fraud case in Clinton. On the evening of August 27, 2016 Clinton Police received a report of identity theft and fraudulent use of a credit card. Complainant stated that her debit card had been used at a local restaurant on Springridge Road.
Complainant advised that on 8/26/2016, she had looked at her bank statement and noticed a charge made at the restaurant in the amount of $22.18 that was not made by her. On 8/27/2016 the complainant stated that three additional internet transactions totaling $197.87 had appeared on her account.
Complainant stated that she had contacted her bank who subsequently cancelled the credit card. Complainant advised that she believed that her card information had been skimmed at the local Kroger Fuel Center on Highway 80 in Clinton.
Investigators have learned that the charges at the local restaurant were online to-go orders and paid for through the restaurants online payment system. Restaurant managers have been assisting CPD with the investigation.
CPD is searching for the suspect, identified through surveillance photos from the restaurant as an African American female. Suspect will be charged with Credit Card Fraud once apprehended. If your debit card doesn't have a chip, you better get a new card. These skimmers are showing up everywhere. My card got skimmed last year and they bought $500 worth of gift cards at Home Depot. Its worth the extra 2 seconds to use the chip cards.
