Poor Coach Mullen. He makes it to the Boston Marathon and then this happens:

Which is more likely. That someone who's lived in MS for 8 years wouldn't know the postal code, or that the Bostonian typing in the code would make a mistake?
Yeah. Let's blame the coach!
Coach Mullen gets five gold stars for running the Marathon!
He might just walk since he did not quality.
He's about to finish Boston in under 4:30. That's not bad. Not bad at all.
WHO CARES !!!!!
@ 1:18 - I doubt JJ was making fun of Mullen for the postal code being wrong. He was certainly saying "Mississippi gets no respect."
The fact that you almost immediately were on the defensive confirms little brother status.
I wonder if Rev. Hugh Freeze gave the opening prayer then shouted it from the mountain tops that he did. Heppin' folks get right.
yyyyaaaaawwwwwww....nnnn
Bless his heart. I'm so proud of him doing Boston cause so few have done it before him.
Actually, that is correct since Harbaugh plans to hold a satellite camp at Ms. State and Coach Mullens will assist.
He is from the landmass in between alabama and louisiana
This Ole Miss Rebel is proud of Coach Mullen. Quite an accomplishment!
Mullen gets respect from me and many others for completing that 26.2. How many of the clumps of store-brand potted meat who post here daily could do the same?
What kind of dumb-ass spells Harbaugh correctly but can't spell the name of MSU's coach? Typical tassel-loafer guy.
I don't understand the post.
Very few. Witness is the paltry participation on the "Go Fund Me" page for the charter school trip to NOLA. They all talk this shit, but when it matters, they disappear.
Starkville isn't in Michigan. 05:30
/took me a while to see it. All it means is that somebody got the abbreviation for the state wrong.
MSU, who has frequently been to Omaha, was, on their last trip, referred to by the national media as the Mississippi State Rebels and shirts were printed with that designation.
Can't get no respect is correct.

Paltry? $1900 in less than two days? What did you kick in big talker? The $2500 goal is a done deal but I'm sure we'll be hearing from you after the fact dogging the effort in some way. LOSER.
6:54 I will respectively agree to disagree with your assessment. JJ has tens of thousands of visitors here weekly. Many, like you, comment with vile, hateful diatribe, particularly AGAINST JPS. This fundraiser is simply a way to do something as a part of the "cause". 28 contributors to this cause is a true barometer of the character of the groupies that hang out here to bitch. I gave. Did you? Of course not. Easier to blindly insult that be a part of a hopeful solution. I won't call you a loser. "We hold these truths to be self evident".
Thomas Jefferson.
I have several pairs of tassel loafers and I look great in all of them. Congrats to Coach Mullens!
Mississippi State Football coach Dan Mullen finished The Boston Marathon in 4 hours, 28 minutes and 35 seconds.
More importantly, he raised more than $40,000 for the Mullen 36 Family Foundation
WTG coach!
5:50: ding ding ding. We have a winner.
Thank you,2:37pm,4:19 pm and 6:16an. It's reassuring to know that there are Mississippians who bother to know something about the subject, take pleasure in the accomplishments of other Mississippians, and aren't just seeking an opportunity to inflict their personal unhappiness onto others.
I'm sure that Coach Mullen, like most normal people , just laughed and shook his head when he saw the mistakes. When there is an event with a huge number of humans, perfection is rare. And, it's our humanity that is at the heart of funny tales told around the dinner table years for years to come.
Mullen earned a lot of respect. Here's the Boston Globe: "Mississippi State football coach stars in this running game". The Washington Post: "For someone who has never competed in a 5K race, Mississippi State Coach Dan Mullen proved to be quite the runner." ESPN blog: "He’ll surely be sore on the flight home from Boston. Sore and proud. He didn't beat winner Lemi Berhanu Hayle, who won the men's race in 2 hours, 12 minutes and 45 seconds, but Mullen's average of 10 minutes and 15 seconds per mile was quite respectable for a new marathoner." A win for Mississippi for once.
Thanks for sharing those quotes, @7:58. Nice to see some positive coverage for our State.
As impressive as Mullen's time was -- under 4:30 at Boston -- it's equally, if not more, impressive that he trained enough on his own to post that time. It takes 3-4 months of training to prepare for a marathon (usually more for a brand-new runner), and he wasn't training with a group. Very few "Couch to 5K" people train alone, much less a first-time marathoner. That takes commitment.
As long as we're on the MI vs. MS, no respect thing, can anyone tell me why the MDWFP boat registration numbers start with MI instead of MS. I've always wondered.
Coach Mullens did a great job! Unfortunately, he finished behind runners from Alabama, Auburn, Arkansas, Texas A&M, Mississippi, and LSU. Just wait till next year!
The original "official" abbreviation for Mississippi using 4 letters was Miss. Missouri was actually Miso. Since 1831. US Post Office. In 1963, the US Post Office (now US Postal Service) adopted two letter abbreviations, along with the zip code. Michigan, previously Mich., became MI. Missouri MO. Miss, MS. Only then did anyone use two letter abbreviations like MS. So, the boat license thing was from the old days when it was Mi(ss). So, summing up, it's a legacy of pre computer days. And we are not alone:In the U.S., boats are required to display a registration state code and number. The state code is often the same as the U.S. postal abbreviation with some exceptions (followed by their postal abbreviations):
CF/CA California
MC/MI Michigan
CL/CO Colorado
MI/MO Missouri
CM/MP Northern Mariana Islands
NB/NE Nebraska
DL/DE Delaware
WN/WA Washington
HA/HI Hawaii
WS/WI Wisconsin
KA/KS Kansas
Missouri boats are MI, too.
And to beat a nerd's dead horse some more, the US PO started abbreviations in around 1831. Mississippi was Mi. Missouri was Mo. And Michigan was still a territory, so it was Mic. T. Many states did not exist yet. So, Mississippi beat Michigan to the abbreviation and Missouri was using Mo. Later, they went to 4 letters. In other words, the mail system has a long legacy and reach. So, today, we have email, folders, and files on our computers as a legacy of paper and mail. What's funny is that on boats, we both have MI for both MS and MO. And MC for Michigan. Long nerd story is that in the 60s, they cut the Four Letter abbreviations to 2 in order to make space for five digit zip codes and had to accommodate all 5 states and could not therefore go back to the 1831 system in whole. And now we have 9 digits. Here's a chart. https://about.usps.com/who-we-are/postal-history/state-abbreviations.htm
9:32 Possibly true but only Coach Mullen had his picture on the front page of USA Today's Sports section 2 days ago after the race. Congratulations, coach. Mississippi can be proud.
