Representative Kimberly Campbell posted this announcement on Facebook:
"I am delighted to announce that Kimberly L. Campbell, Esq. will be
joining AARP as the Mississippi State Director. In her new role Kimberly
is responsible for making AARP a driving force and tireless advocate
for those 50-plus and their families to help them live their best lives;
and ensure that AARP is the “go-to resource” and leader across Mississippi on issues important to the 50-plus population."
During my nearly nine year tenure in the Mississippi House of
Representatives, District 72, I have been a proud author of such new
laws as relates to: human trafficking, domestic violence, child
endangerment, adoption, youth court improvement and much more. I am the
Vice-Chairwoman of Banking & Financial Services, Sub-Committee
Chairwoman over Domestic Affairs in the Judiciary B Committee. I also
serve as a member of the Performance Evaluation & Expenditure Review
and Public Utilities Committees.
Having held Vice-Chairman
roles under both Democratic and Republican leadership in the House, I
have been committed to working across partisan lines to better all of
the citizens of MS. However, there are seasons we all find ourselves.
This is my season for change. My work at the State House is complete.
It's time to release the reins for someone else to have an opportunity
to serve and lead District 72.
I will ALWAYS love the citizens
of House District 72. But when God says, "move"... You must heed his
call! There are some offers, you just CANNOT refuse! I'll be resigning
from the House of Representatives by the close of May. This is an
exciting new chapter for my girls & me, please keep us in prayer! I
THANK God for positioning me for the next level. As Kobe Bryant did, I'm
leaving on my own terms.
Kingfish note: She was one of the good guys. She will be missed.

Trollfest '09
Trollfest '07 was such a success that Jackson Jambalaya will once again host Trollfest '09. Catch this great event which will leave NE Jackson & Fondren in flames. Othor Cain and his band, The Black Power Structure headline the night while Sonjay Poontang returns for an encore performance. Former Frank Melton bodyguard Marcus Wright makes his premier appearance at Trollfest singing "I'm a Sweet Transvestite" from "The Rocky Horror Picture Show." Kamikaze will sing his new hit, “How I sold out to da Man.” Robbie Bell again performs: “Mamas, don't let your babies grow up to be Bells” and “Any friend of Ed Peters is a friend of mine”. After the show, Ms. Bell will autograph copies of her mug shot photos. In a salute to “Dancing with the Stars”, Ms. Bell and Hinds County District Attorney Robert Smith will dance the Wango Tango.
Wrestling returns, except this time it will be a Battle Royal with Othor Cain, Ben Allen, Kim Wade, Haley Fisackerly, Alan Lange, and “Big Cat” Donna Ladd all in the ring at the same time. The Battle Royal will be in a steel cage, no time limit, no referee, and the losers must leave town. Marshand Crisler will be the honorary referee (as it gives him a title without actually having to do anything).
Meet KIM Waaaaaade at the Entergy Tent. For five pesos, Kim will sell you a chance to win a deed to a crack house on Ridgeway Street stuffed in the Howard Industries pinata. Don't worry if the pinata is beaten to shreds, as Mr. Wade has Jose, Emmanuel, and Carlos, all illegal immigrants, available as replacements for the it. Upon leaving the Entergy tent, fig leaves will be available in case Entergy literally takes everything you have as part of its Trollfest ticket price adjustment charge.
Donna Ladd of The Jackson Free Press will give several classes on learning how to write. Smearing, writing without factchecking, and reporting only one side of a story will be covered. A donation to pay their taxes will be accepted and she will be signing copies of their former federal tax liens. Ms. Ladd will give a dramatic reading of her two award-winning essays (They received The Jackson Free Press "Best Of" awards.) "Why everything is always about me" and "Why I cover murders better than anyone else in Jackson".
In the spirit of helping those who are less fortunate, Trollfest '09 adopts a cause for which a portion of the proceeds and donations will be donated: Keeping Frank Melton in his home. The “Keep Frank Melton From Being Homeless” booth will sell chances for five dollars to pin the tail on the jackass. John Reeves has graciously volunteered to be the jackass for this honorable excursion into saving Frank's ass. What's an ass between two friends after all? If Mr. Reeves is unable to um, perform, Speaker Billy McCoy has also volunteered as when the word “jackass” was mentioned he immediately ran as fast as he could to sign up.
In order to help clean up the legal profession, Adam Kilgore of the Mississippi Bar will be giving away free, round-trip plane tickets to the North Pole where they keep their bar complaint forms (which are NOT available online). If you don't want to go to the North Pole, you can enjoy Brant Brantley's (of the Mississippi Commission on Judicial Performance) free guided tours of the quicksand field over by High Street where all complaints against judges disappear. If for some reason you are unable to control yourself, never fear; Judge Houston Patton will operate his jail where no lawyers are needed or allowed as you just sit there for minutes... hours.... months...years until he decides he is tired of you sitting in his jail. Do not think Judge Patton is a bad judge however as he plans to serve free Mad Dog 20/20 to all inmates.
Trollfest '09 is a pet-friendly event as well. Feel free to bring your dog with you and do not worry if your pet gets hungry, as employees of the Jackson Zoo will be on hand to provide some of their animals as food when it gets to be feeding time for your little loved one.
Relax at the Fox News Tent. Since there are only three blonde reporters in Jackson (being blonde is a requirement for working at Fox News), Megan and Kathryn from WAPT and Wendy from WLBT will be on loan to Fox. To gain admittance to the VIP section, bring either your Republican Party ID card or a Rebel Flag. Bringing both and a torn-up Obama yard sign will entitle you to free drinks served by Megan, Wendy, and Kathryn. Get your tickets now. Since this is an event for trolls, no ID is required. Just bring the hate. Bring the family, Trollfest '09 is for EVERYONE!!!
This is definitely a Beaver production.

AARP is an Obama field office.
Yep, a good one gone. Oddly enough, she'll be working in the same building with me now so maybe I'll get a chance to meet her in person and thank her for the time she served.
We don't always agree, but this loss hurts. Kimberly is a good member who is open-minded and a hard worker. She will be hard to replace for her district. I guess that she just burned out on being caught in the middle.
Maybe Fleming can run again and if he gets there bury the House using his trademark blizzard of bills.
AARP = Obama + This women, a Dem loyalist
"Incoming AARP CEO A. Barry Rand contributed $8,900 to President Obama's campaign committees, federal records show.
Rand, a retired senior executive at Xerox Corp., Avis Group and Equitant Inc. and the current chairman of Howard University's board of trustees, gave the maximum $4,600 to Obama's election campaign and an additional $4,300 to the Obama Victory Fund, a joint fundraising entity of Obama and the Democratic National Committee.
Altogether, Rand has given $15,900 to Democratic campaign committees since 1995, according to searches of Federal Election Commission databases dating back to 1990 that are maintained by CQ Money Line and the Center for Responsive Politics.
AND, "An e-mail from AARP lobbyists Nora Super to White House staffer Lauren Aronson on July 23, 2009 said: “We really need to talk. Our calls against reform are coming in 14 to one."
Yet, ”An investigative report from the House Ways and Means Committee found: “The Democrats’ health care law, which AARP strongly endorsed, could result in a windfall for AARP that exceeds over $1 billion during the next 10 years.”
Did not renew AARP. They lie about being politically neutral or "for seniors."
They sell crappy insurance and donate exclusively to Dems. This is pure political hire for Dems. The heck with AARP scams and partisan politics.
11:53 is knowledgeable about this crew. I don't care if she was a "good one". The organization she is joining is not.
I didn't realize this used to be Fleming's seat. God forbid that union-loving, employer-hating, bill-cranker might be re-elected to public office.
He is the character who wants it illegal for an employer to run criminal background checks. He is the character who wants union shops in every industry. He is the character who has twice failed in attempts to outlaw pre-employment drug screens.
11:53,
What about Kimberly's tenure in the legislature showed you she was anything other than thoughtful and intelligent? There are examples in your lone comment suggesting you are not.
@ 12:08. I agree completely about the AARP being a giant fraud. I would never work for them or join their organization. However, that does not take away from the good job the Kimberly did in the legislature.
I made the mistake of joining AARP for one year a few years back. Since then I have been bombarded almost daily with mail and sometimes telephone calls about every kind of insurance known to mankind along with begging for donations. I have tried on many occasions to stop this, and it is just impossible. If you never have joined DON'T.
Former Wyoming Sen. Alan Simpson -- one of the wittiest men ever to serve in Congress -- referred to AARP as "those greedy geezers."
As usual, he was right.
"She gone" Really JJ? A bit racist.
I will quickly say that KC was not one of the bad ones. She was not incompetent like some of her fellow members.
But - I would like one of the above commentators that states unilaterally that she was one of the good ones give me an example of anything that she has done to put her in that category. Just because you expected little from her because she came from Flemings old district and she exceeded those expectations doesn't make her a 'good one'. Only makes her stand out among her fellow Jackson legislators.
She made a good speech the other day, albeit somewhat selfserving since she had a video on her own for this use and did not use the official House video system. Only reason this is significant was it shows that she made the speech for self promotional purposes. It was a good lambasting of her fellow members that were not standing up and defending Jackson in the stealing of the airport.
But - other than that, I challenge you to show something that moves here into the 'one of the good ones' category.
She didn't give the House GOPers as much grief as the other LBC members so that qualifies her as one of the good ones.
If she agrees to vote for the party propped-up RINOs going forward without having to get paid they'll consider her one of the great ones!
I imagine this just ended legislative session left her deeply disillusioned, having seen the short-sighted, underhanded, and downright regressive decisions being rammed through by the power drunk supermajority. She seems like a nice but perhaps naive lady who fooled herself thinking that if she just tried to be open-minded, cordial and bi-partisan with the rural GOP good ol' boys on a few of their proposals they would reciprocate that attitude on a few things she supported. The JMWE airport theft was probably her biggest rude awakening, which is why she gave such an uncharacteristic fiery and downright in-your-face rebuke of the pro-theft position.
@4:54
Clearly her statement says God called her to take the job and it was one she "CANNOT REFUSE" So, while disillusioned she had her eye on a real paying job. I doubt her election coffers were overflowing. That AARP job has been posted for almost a year and probably pays in the low 100,000's. Based on the contact I've had with that office, she may be an improvement; but I am not holding out hope. Currently, it is not a well run organization. Maybe she'll clean house. It needs it.
I think she will do good at the AARP, despite the fact that the organization is beyond hope.
I can accept that her handling of the JMAA issue was better than some of her fellow members of the Jackson delegation.
But, in my opinion she was just a member. She certainly was not one of the bad ones, or the worthless ones, or the scalawags, etc.
But I am not promoting her to the esteemed category that she or some of her friends and family are posting on here as being one of the 'good ones'. She didn't do anything. OK, she didn't steal anything. she didn't screw anybody. She didn't do much at all, but take her paycheck. At least she showed up on those days she was claiming her pay, which is more than you can say for many of them.
But not being bad does not make one good.
Redistricting matters and, by the looks of it, the Republicans will be in charge of the next one too!
She was a good example of what legislators in both parties should be doing. She did a great job and she will do a great job at AARP. She joins several other Democratic and Republican legislators who have left recently for other jobs, that speaks loudly of how dysfunctional the legislature has become and more will be leaving to join them.
@ 4:54 SPOT ON! couldn't have said it better. Kim Campbell is the teachers pet in elementary school who everybody pretends to like but secretly could give two shits about. When she falls and scraps her knee and crys for help, everybody stares and laughs...including the teacher!
When she came in people thought she might be different than the average LBC member. They were wrong. Hopefully she can afford something nicer than her little 3000 sq ft house now.
Flattered by the mentions...
Kingfish is right, Rep. Campbell was one of the "good ones". Despite being opponents, I was honored to have her as my representative.
I personally feel that for 25 years District 72 had great representation in three different styles. Kimberly did her best to be a bridge builder and she was respected for that. I can't wait to see who earns the mantle next. Should be a fun summer.
3:44, the only time I have heard the "she gone" vernacular is on Duck Dynasty. Kingfish making fun of Uncle Si is hardly racist.
Eric had to leave in a hurry. Maybe an allergic reaction. Didn't have a moment to refute 11:50 and 12:59's memory of his service. But he did refer to himself as a 'great representative'.
I don't know what you did for District 72, but you cranked out an average of a bill-a-day directed at employer abuse, over-reaching government, propping up the union 'movement' and ensuring that no hiring authority had the legal right to background checks on applicants. That reaches far beyond the district and was a terrible assault on the position to which you were elected. Yet you grin and dismiss that notion.
Yes, it ought to be an interesting summer.
