Hinds Republicans convened yesterday

JJ videotaped the Hinds County Republican Party convention yesterday at the War Memorial Building in downtown Jackson.  99 delegates selected delegates to attend the state GOP convention in May.  The delegates also voted for members to serve on the Hinds County Republican Party executive committee.  The delegates were elected at precinct caucuses held that morning.  Pete Perry chaired the convention.

The convention elected three delegates from the Third Congressional district to attend the state convention. The three delegates are Ashby Foote, Pete Perry, and Austin Barbour.  The vote was 71-28 for the slate of nominations.  Those interested in standing for election as a delegate had to submit a declaration of intent to the party nominations committee.   The convention also voted 68-31 to accept a slate of delegates from the Second Congressional District.

Mr. Perry also told the delegates that only presidential candidates Donald Trump and Ted Cruz will receive delegates in Mississippi as they were the only candidates who received more than 15% of the vote.  He said that rule 8 mandates that delegates are bound to the candidate until released by the candidate. Good that Austin & Pete will be at the State Cknvention.

There may be people who can be enticed with Food Stamps.

George Wallace. How appropriate.

Hey 2:40. Your guy, the Donald, is bragging about how he is winning in the open primary states with "blacks and Democrats". Are you going to assume that his delegates are going to Cleveland on their Food Stamps?? What a racist message. Why don't you go climb back into your cave. The rest of us are living in 2016 - you ought to join us.

Was run and controlled much better than what we sat through in Rankin. They probably are glad KF was in Jackson with his camera than watching this fiasco.

Anonymous said...

A rather Caucasian cred

Anonymous said...

Kingfish too bad you didn't cover madison too. Mike Hurst got beat by an 18 year at his precicnt. 28-12.

Anonymous said...

No gunplay on the agenda?

Anonymous said...

Overall Rankin went fine and the executive committee and delegate slates all won. Unfortunately there were just a lot of loud Trump supporters who thought yelling point of order and division were more important than actually having votes to defeat what they didn't like. If those same people actually want to be involved in Rankin county politics, perhaps they will stay involved and not just show every four years and complain when they don't get there way.

The main story from the convention was that Gary Harkins announced he was not seeking another term as chairman.

Anonymous said...

Somebody post Madison and rankin delegates.

Anonymous said...

I am confused. Speaker Gunn lives in the Second Congressional District?

Anonymous said...

Yes. Speaker Gunn lives in the Second CD. Most of Hinds is in the 2nd; everything except NE Jackson.

And he - and most others there - knew which Congressional District they lived in. Everybody except that showboat guy from St Phillips (that you see keep popping up throughout and is the one you see at the start of KF's third post) not only didn't know what District he lived in - when asked he did not know who his congressman was. He was asked if it was Gregg Harper or Bennie Thompson. He didn't know; all he knew was his zip code.

Good resume for being a delegate to the state convention, which is why he was there raising cain. But, that's what the Trump people told him to do, so he tried his best. Just like commentator above says about Rankin, they were instructed to try to outvoice everyone else, ask for a division on every vote, and push themselves into becoming delegates.

Hint: Mitch. Next time give them some basic details about which Congressional District they are seeking to win - at least help them out by explaining the difference between Harper and Thompson.

The RINOs never win another national election for POTUS.

Anonymous said...

Yes. Those RINOs that have hijacked this election behind the TV star who, along with his children aren't Republicans until he jumped on this opportunity to try to buy him a presidency have insured that we will not win this year. And with his campaign turning off true conservatives - including many republicans that have been so for decades - we will not see a presidency for a while.

Your problem is that you are pointing the finger at the wrong people when you use your term RINO. The folks that aren't republicans but are trying to co-opt the term for themselves are the ones that were new to the room - and the process - this weekend. People that haven't been seen in anything to do with an election until this year

Anonymous said...

The Rankin legislative delegation plus Dick Hall are all alternates. Most everyone else is executive committee members. It was just the slate presented at convention.

https://mississippipep.wordpress.com/2016/04/22/email-from-rankin-county-gop-chairman-indicates-quiet-rule-change-for-delegate-selection-to-state-convention/ Rankin County was where all the excitement was this weekend. There was going to be none in Hinds Co. Why would you cover Hinds when it was known all the fun was going to be in Rankin??? Last to know?

Mike Hurst getting beat by the high school kid was all the talk in Madison County Saturday. It was a true WHOOPIN'!!!! Pat Bruce got beat as well.

Please write about the Madison county republican convention. I heard their were many "firsts" that occurred this go around

@2:56 pm
I don't think the food stamp comment was about race. It's that so many delegates look as if they haven't been able to afford to update their wardrobes or hair styles since the '70's!

Anonymous said...

Enjoy your party @8:18 PM because you lost "true conservatives" a long time ago. Now you're losing the working guy too!

Anonymous said...

Joel Bomgar showed up to his precinct and no one nominated him. No friends in the legislature and no friends at home either.

Anonymous said...

Does it really matter who we send to the national convention? I was under the impression that Mississippi's delegates were bound to vote according to the primary results. Or, can the delegates just do whatever they want once they are there?

Anonymous said...

Austin Barbour wants to go so he can troll for consulting clients.

Anonymous said...

9:17 Of course it matters!!! These delegates need a week of eating and drinking to celebrate all of the good work they have done.

Anonymous said...

Each State is different as to following the wishes of the voters and I do know what Miss. rules are.

Anonymous said...

So the Trump folks are yelling at the EEEstablisment saying you have lost the conservatives, yet their guy is the definition of RINO! Oh the irony. The nutcases that were at the Rankin convention show up once every 4 years and try to do exactly what happened to them. It is absolutely hilarious to see the indignation and accusations that Trump and Cruz people were denied when in FACT that a majority of the new committee is consisted of Trump and Cruz people. Kasich folks are in the minority. These nuts are never happy. One day when they eventually catch up to the tire they have been barking at they will not know what to do, but pee on it. Then you will have exactly what you have been asking for.

Anonymous said...

Look at what the people of the U.S. have to choose from. On one side is a person who should be in jail and another that is not even a member of the party. On the other side the party is trying to force the people to take someone that cannot even win their own party.
If there is anyone left that still thinks there is an honest politician or an honest election this should convince them otherwise. If it does not they should not be allowed to vote.

Anonymous said...

It's cute that Plunkett is sharing a video from the convention crying that they were "railroaded" by the establishment. And then you watch the video and see the motion to adjourn. Supporters of the motion stood up and were counted. Opponents then stood up and were counted. Supporters of the motion won. Everyone had a chance to vote, they just lost. Majority still rules.

But this happens every 4 years and the same people get all upset for a few days. They'll get upset after the convention in 3 weeks. It then goes away for another four years and we hear everything all over again.

Anonymous said...

The Madison GOP website does not include Joel as a republican legislator representing the county. snub? http://www.madisongop.org/madisons-elected-officials

Anonymous said...

Keep woofing @11:27 AM. Your little corrupt club will never be the same. Now don't you have some black Democrat votes to pay for?

Kingfish said...

No surprise since he has been blacklisted. He voted against a bunch of local private bills in the House and well, they retaliated and started killing bills Madison wanted.

Anonymous said...

It probably didn't help that he voted against the tire plant project in the speaker's backyard.

Anonymous said...

I think that site is old, it doesn't include cory wilson either. Trump's folks failed spectacularly in Madison, Rankin, and in the rest of the state. Yelling isn't an effective strategy.

MSGOPRINO fave Kasich won how many delegates?

Anonymous said...

So sick of this RINO accusation crap. Better than those of you so far over the edge that you're hanging on the right wing by a fingertip. Holding on to major principles while being willing to compromise is our only hope. You will find yourself wishing for a conjoined party and a reasonable nominee and ultimately President of these United States! Trouble ahead, boys.

Another CLUELESS RINO at 5:54 PM said...

Right, we're hanging on by a fingertip while the Congressional GOPers jackbooted our national debt, with Bush and now the Kenyan, from $5.7 trillion in 2000 to over $18T today. Right, we're the problem and more cowbell from the likes of Senator King of Pork Cochran is the answer.

The trouble ahead is for you @5:54 PM Your boys club is an absolute impotent joke. Major principles? The GOP HAS NO F&%KING MAJOR PRINCIPLES. You're the fool for thinking otherwise.

Anonymous said...

Quit crying already... You didn't have the delegates. GET OVER IT!

Anonymous said...

Trumpsters Lee Lott and David Saunders showed up at precinct 33 caucus and attempted to take over the meeting. When it became apparent that they were outnumbered the two trumpsters and 4 cohearts tried to shout down the proceedings. It didn't work. A majority (13-6) ignored as well as shouting imbeciles can be ignored and quickly elected delegates for the county caucus.

Anonymous said...

Trump supporters got at least seven of the ten delegates from Madison County.

Anonymous said...

Looks to me like a well conducted meeting. While the process and results seem to mirror those of other surrounding counties, Perry seemed to handle the situations in a reasonable manner and things didn't get out of control like it did in other places. Looks like nothing more than recognizing people, letting them speak, and moving forward according to recognized RR procedure made things run fairly smoothly. Not a big fan of Perry, but not a hater like so many folks that dont like his style. Having competent folks there to help certainly made it easier for him, and not losing his cool with the guy from that kept on trying to make motions that didn't make any sense.

Anonymous said...

Who do Mike Hurst, Pat Bruce and Joel Bomgar support for POTUS?

Anonymous said...

11:35...you left out constitutional clayton.

Anonymous said...

It's very interesting to see Speaker Phillip Gunn trying to take Pete Perry's job as chair of the convention. He was nominated then Pete was nominated. Gunn acted like he didn't want the position but then he allow the people of the convention to vote on it. He got beat by Old Pete 80-16. If he really didn't want to be the chair of the convention he wouldn't have allowed it to go to a vote and could have saved himself suffering the embarrassment that he did. Thanks to Kingfish for showing all of this.

Anonymous said...

I went to my precinct in Madison to vote for Greg Hinkebein and Joel Bomgar as delegates. Mitch Tyner showed up with over 20 people and took the whole thing over. Luckily for Madison Republicans, they did not take over the county convention or the state. The party would be in dissaray for next four years with them at the helm.

Anonymous said...

11:35, what does that have to do with anything? None were elected to be delegates to the convention, and none were put on the Madison County Executive Committee, although any of them can be put on in the future.

Anonymous said...

The party is already in disarray.

Anonymous said...

@ 9:03am, I think you underestimate how bad a Tyner-led party would be. Imagine a party that couldn't raise money, recruit candidates, or run elections. It would be the perfect storm to usher Democrats back into office.

Anonymous said...

Not convinced a Tyner-led party would be as bad as the systemically corrupt MSGOP that we have today. We'll put you down as supporting corruption if it means winning elections for RINOs. In other words, the status quo.

Anonymous said...

@11:35 pm Clinton, Sanders, and himself in that order

Anonymous said...

So, reading between the lines, Joel Bomgar showed up wanting to be a delegate and he got rolled by Tiner. Tea Party can't get out of its own way.

Anonymous said...

RINOs can't get elected without Tea Party or paid black Democrats. No need to read between those lines.

Anonymous said...

Which one are you referring to 10:19? Bomgar or Tiner? Seems like the TP is eating its own.

Anonymous said...

It looks like it was already done deal with their set slate appointed by the nominating committee that consisted of Lyle Williams, Phil Fisher, and Pete Perry. So it's still a good old boys club. They didn't event take nominations from the floor. They took their slate of their buddies they picked in a secret meeting then said the heck with the Trump supporters and anybody new. No wonder people are pissed off so much with the political games. If you haven't watched the whole video it tells so much about establishment political games at its best.

Anonymous said...

10:37- surely you realize that the two political parties are organized and run by folks that have been involved for years. These folks devote their time and money. So if you want to be involved you need to contribute your time and financial support to party. And don't expect to show up once every 4 years and expect to be elected as a delegate. But if that is your expectation you need to start your own political party.

Anonymous said...

No, 10:38 - they did the same process as most any organization. They had a nominating committee; people suggested individuals for the various positions and the nominating committee made a recommendation. That's just like they do in my church - and most other churches that I have ever been associated with.

The nominations were placed with a motion. If it passed, there was no need for further nominations. The votes were there to elect those nominated. If the motion did not pass, then the floor would have been open for additional nominations and a ballot.

For folks that only attend church on Christmas and Easter, they generally aren't nominated for the Board of Deacons or the Elders. But for some reason, these folks that attend a convention but have never been involved before - and they don't have a majority of the votes - still think they should 'win'.

This system operates just like all the other parts of our world. If you have a majority of the votes, you win and go home happy. If you don't have a majority, you lose and often go home bitching and complaining that the process wasn't fair.

You said that they were picked in a secret meeting. On what basis do you claim that it was secret?

Said 'to heck with the Trump supporters and anybody new.' How were they to know anything about the new folks? Sounds to me like they are the ones you should be calling "RINO", since as newbies they haven't been Republicans before.

Anonymous said...

Same folks who swore to high heaven that Senator Depends Cochran was living in his landlady's basement now go to great lengths to extol on about the regularity of the MSGOP boys club. LMAO

Anonymous said...

@4:29. Most of us are living in 2016 - why don't you come along and join us. After the asskicking you and your cohorts got last Saturday, you ought to realize that the McD bandwagon has gotten awfully lonely lately.

Anonymous said...

I'll pass @5:04 PM. At the rate y'all in the MSGOP inbreed your endangered RINO species will be extinct soon enough.

Meanwhile, save up your pennies really hard so you can buy off those black Democrats you'll need to vote for Wicker in 2018.

Anonymous said...

The videos I have seen do confirm that this is a messed up good ole boy system. And I don't give a rats behind who my delegate is to the state convention. Any system that can operate when 3 people show up at a precinct caucus is a messed up system. Talk about the 1% !

Anonymous said...

@9:37. Hope you enjoy your life. Keep kicking around your tale, I'm sure you, Chrissy, Noel, Melanie and Keith will enjoy yourselves while you tell and retell your old war stories. I imagine in your world the South will rise again and we can win the Civil War the next time.

9:59 AM, how often do you have to clean that hole in the ground which permanently houses your head? It is going to be so fun watching all you 'true conservatives' have to make a decision between Trump and Clinton after all the bravado and big talk. MSGOP is going to have to beef up that RINO suicide prevention hotline they run out of Yazoo Street.

9:59 replies said...

My head is not in a hole in the ground. And I am not going to have to spend any time making that decision - I made it months ago when I jumped on the Trump train long before it was clear that he would retain his position at the head of the pack.

My question is with the McD's that were trying to ride the Cruz train so that their St.Chris could claim a win.

Nice try - but wrong. Play again next time.

Trollfest '09

Trollfest '07 was such a success that Jackson Jambalaya will once again host Trollfest '09. Catch this great event which will leave NE Jackson & Fondren in flames. Othor Cain and his band, The Black Power Structure headline the night while Sonjay Poontang returns for an encore performance. Former Frank Melton bodyguard Marcus Wright makes his premier appearance at Trollfest singing "I'm a Sweet Transvestite" from "The Rocky Horror Picture Show." Kamikaze will sing his new hit, “How I sold out to da Man.” Robbie Bell again performs: “Mamas, don't let your babies grow up to be Bells” and “Any friend of Ed Peters is a friend of mine”. After the show, Ms. Bell will autograph copies of her mug shot photos. In a salute to “Dancing with the Stars”, Ms. Bell and Hinds County District Attorney Robert Smith will dance the Wango Tango.

Wrestling returns, except this time it will be a Battle Royal with Othor Cain, Ben Allen, Kim Wade, Haley Fisackerly, Alan Lange, and “Big Cat” Donna Ladd all in the ring at the same time. The Battle Royal will be in a steel cage, no time limit, no referee, and the losers must leave town. Marshand Crisler will be the honorary referee (as it gives him a title without actually having to do anything).

Meet KIM Waaaaaade at the Entergy Tent. For five pesos, Kim will sell you a chance to win a deed to a crack house on Ridgeway Street stuffed in the Howard Industries pinata. Don't worry if the pinata is beaten to shreds, as Mr. Wade has Jose, Emmanuel, and Carlos, all illegal immigrants, available as replacements for the it. Upon leaving the Entergy tent, fig leaves will be available in case Entergy literally takes everything you have as part of its Trollfest ticket price adjustment charge.

Donna Ladd of The Jackson Free Press will give several classes on learning how to write. Smearing, writing without factchecking, and reporting only one side of a story will be covered. A donation to pay their taxes will be accepted and she will be signing copies of their former federal tax liens. Ms. Ladd will give a dramatic reading of her two award-winning essays (They received The Jackson Free Press "Best Of" awards.) "Why everything is always about me" and "Why I cover murders better than anyone else in Jackson".

In the spirit of helping those who are less fortunate, Trollfest '09 adopts a cause for which a portion of the proceeds and donations will be donated: Keeping Frank Melton in his home. The “Keep Frank Melton From Being Homeless” booth will sell chances for five dollars to pin the tail on the jackass. John Reeves has graciously volunteered to be the jackass for this honorable excursion into saving Frank's ass. What's an ass between two friends after all? If Mr. Reeves is unable to um, perform, Speaker Billy McCoy has also volunteered as when the word “jackass” was mentioned he immediately ran as fast as he could to sign up.

In order to help clean up the legal profession, Adam Kilgore of the Mississippi Bar will be giving away free, round-trip plane tickets to the North Pole where they keep their bar complaint forms (which are NOT available online). If you don't want to go to the North Pole, you can enjoy Brant Brantley's (of the Mississippi Commission on Judicial Performance) free guided tours of the quicksand field over by High Street where all complaints against judges disappear. If for some reason you are unable to control yourself, never fear; Judge Houston Patton will operate his jail where no lawyers are needed or allowed as you just sit there for minutes... hours.... months...years until he decides he is tired of you sitting in his jail. Do not think Judge Patton is a bad judge however as he plans to serve free Mad Dog 20/20 to all inmates.

Trollfest '09 is a pet-friendly event as well. Feel free to bring your dog with you and do not worry if your pet gets hungry, as employees of the Jackson Zoo will be on hand to provide some of their animals as food when it gets to be feeding time for your little loved one.

Relax at the Fox News Tent. Since there are only three blonde reporters in Jackson (being blonde is a requirement for working at Fox News), Megan and Kathryn from WAPT and Wendy from WLBT will be on loan to Fox. To gain admittance to the VIP section, bring either your Republican Party ID card or a Rebel Flag. Bringing both and a torn-up Obama yard sign will entitle you to free drinks served by Megan, Wendy, and Kathryn. Get your tickets now. Since this is an event for trolls, no ID is required.
