Jackson Mayor Tony Yarber issued the following press release:
Mayor Tony Yarber on
Wednesday, July 2, announced his appointments to the commission that will have
oversight of revenue generated by the 1 percent sales tax that was approved by
City of Jackson voters.
The appointments are
Mayor Yarber, James Anderson, a city attorney for Jackson; and Dr. Charles
Williams, interim director of Jackson’s Department of Public Works. The
10-member commission has three appointments from Jackson; four from the local
chamber of commerce; and one each from the governor, lieutenant governor and
speaker of the House.
“Ninety percent
of Jackson citizens decided on Jan. 14 they wanted better streets and an
improved water and sewer system,” Yarber said. “We’re excited
to put forth these appointments to the commission so citizens will finally have
the opportunity to see their 1 percent sales tax go to work for them.”

Why would the city merchants, the city attorney, the city engineer, and the chief city magistrate know better than others how to design and build out the municipal infrastructure when those are the very type that counselled the city to postpone the endeavor?
Is Pete Perry still on this commission? But I guess a DUI is no problem nowadays. You can stay in the leadership in your party and still be considered of good moral character and judgment to determine the appropriate use of public funds

A federal carbon tax is forthcoming once the truth is known about global greenhouse gases. The feds will create a federal commission to see that the funds go to projects that save energy. Downtown districts in the nation's cities will get new life then which will in turn help the financing of public works and transit infrastructure.
