People always say "they are so nice" or "no, not them" when things like this surface. These people are still innocent until proven guilty. If found guilty of this crime, they are sexual predators and need to go to jail for a long, long time--no matter how 'nice' or 'honest' or 'Christian' you think them to be.

The age of consent was, until recently, 14. The Leg increased the age of consent and its a little out of whack imo. Statutory rape is defenseless. That should not be how it works. Its patently unfair.

Fairly certain that the very least parents should be able to expect from professional, college educated teachers is to refrain from having sex with their students/our children.

The age of consent has been established by the legislature because they have made a judgment that children under 16 generally aren't sophisticated enough to make a well reasoned decision about having sex with an adult.

Having sex with an adult, if you are not one, is very different than going hunting or driving a car. There isn't a single positive effect that results from it. I know the blame falls on the adults. They should have known better. Its obviously a perverse ordeal. And if they wouldn't have been caught it probably would have continued until she graduated. But it happened multiple times. And the student drove to their house on her own. She then hid the ordeal for over a year according to reports, and only admitted it after confronted by parents. So you can say the teen isn't guilty of anything but not being guilty of something isn't the same thing as being innocent. She wasn't exactly an unwilling participant.

I managed to see a couple of the police affidavits. In my opinion, what took place was a classic grooming situation if what I saw is to be believed. Keep in mind the wife is alleged to have met her when she was at Old Towne MIDDLE School. That means no more than 8th grade. The parents of this child have had issues with these two coaches for quite a few years. In my opinion, this entire situation is a fabricated situation that is complicated further by the fact that the alleged victim's sister works for the Ridgeland Police Department and the alleged victim's mother work(ed) for Ridgeland High School. The Porter's are good people who are being railroaded by a vindictive, spiteful mother that could not understand why her daughter would rather spend time with someone other than herself. Additionally, the mother continued to allow the child to spend time with the Porter's and continue to play on the softball team. If this had been my child and I had any suspicions at all, my child would not have been playing softball or being around a coach that I thought was capable of anything like this.

The facts are simple: Husband and Wife, 26 and 27-year-old coaches of a softball team, holding positions of authority, manipulate one of their 14-15 year old players and end up partaking in an inappropriate, sexual relationship, again with one of their players, and in your opinion, they are "good people" and this is the child's family's fault.

Unbelievably Sad! Hope you don't end up on the jury that hears the case.

If this is a fabrication, I hope the Porters sue everyone involved to the point that it would be an example to anyone thinking of fabricating something like this in the future. There should be some penalty in place for all the teens who falsely accuse adults of crimes like this. Many times it turns out to be a lie and lives are destroyed all because of lies. But you don't see the media telling stories of the falsely accused because it's not as buzz worthy.

I wonder if this couple has any concept of just how malicious and harmful their actions were towards this 15 year old kid, and just how significant the consequences are likely to be for all involved or otherwise affected? Two adults, both of whom held positions of trust and authority over the kid (since the time she was in middle school, no less), conspiring together over time to manipulate and seduce this kid, and then together as a team repeatedly engaging in group sexual activity with the kid, as well as conducting ongoing sexting and photo exchanges, and likely regular erotic phone calls into the wee hours of the morning. Police reports state the mother of the girl suspects inappropriate communications and activity may have begun before the kid even graduated middle school.

According to news reports, Blair Porter is the one who did all the coordination and made the arrangements for the sexual activities to take place. One can only assume she was the one who greased the skids with this kid so she wouldn't feel intimidated or inhibited by the concept of engaging in sexual activity with her husband, or in engaging in lesbian sex with her. I doubt her husband would have introduced the idea of sexually molesting one of his team's players unless she'd done or said something that made him feel his wife was open to the idea. It certainly seems she was in the driver's seat. Without her involvement in facilitating things, this probably never would have happened.

What a class act! She was the female assistant coach to the soft ball team. Part of her responsibilities in that capacity was to provide an adult female presence to monitor (chaperone) the male coach's interactions with the young girls on his team. If everything is as it seems, her crime was far worse than her husbands.

No doubt there is much more to the story. After all, the time frame cited in the police report for when the two meetings took place was between 10/13 and 4/14. With all the sexting going on for a prolonged period of time, the daily interactions at practices, etc. It's pretty safe to assume there were other face to face meetings beyond just the two cited in the police report.

We'll likely never get to hear about it. Sounds like the evidence against them is pretty substantial. A plea deal is likely. But given the position of trust and authority they held over the girl, and the two of them conspiring together to repeatedly molest this girl....if either get's less than 10 years, it will be a travesty of justice.

The girl will never be the same. Everyone in the community knows who she is and what she did. As long as she remains in that community she will always be known by her classmates and the community at large as the kid who engaged in threesomes with her husband and wife coaches. Her relationships with her friends and teammates will be affected. (My guess is you won't see her on the team roster this coming year.) Her innocence was ripped away from her. No doubt she has already gone into hiding and is only now beginning to grasp the magnitude of what was done to her as her family circles the wagons in an effort to protect her. Her self image, her sexual identity, and the general course of her life will be adversely affected, perhaps defined, by this event for a very long time to come.

Not to forget the unborn child of the Porters, who will likely have to live the first 5 or more years of her life while her parents are in jail. I hope it's a girl, and that when she turns 15, Mike and Blair pause to look at her, where she is at in her physical and emotional development and then consider how they would feel if a couple in their late 20s succeeded in seducing their child into their bed without their knowledge.

I wonder if the sexual pleasure each of the Porter's experienced while molesting this girl was worth the price this girl, and both of their families, will have to pay because of their actions?

No doubt more of today's teenagers are sexually experienced and often more promiscuous compared to when I was a teenager in the 70s and 80's. Still anyone who's ever raised a 15 year old teenager knows how easily misguided they can be given the wrong influences. Just because a young girl has developed tits and ass, or a young boy the ability to get a boner, doesn't mean they deserve adult culpability when caught engaging in illegal or inappropriate sexual activity. Just because an adult finds a kid sexually attractive doesn't make it okay to act on those desires, even if the kid is the one who tries to instigate it.

What these kids do sexually amongst themselves is the responsibility of their parents to try to monitor and control. What adults do together sexually is nobody's business but their own. What an adult does sexually with an underage teenager is the police and court systems responsibility to address, and everyone's responsibility to report.

When it comes to those who want to place adult responsibility on a young teenager caught engaging in sex with adults (especially adults in positions of influence and authority over the kid) the term "uneducated country bumpkin" comes to mind. No doubt they would be of the same opinion if it was their 15-year-old daughter caught being willingly molested by two adults in their late 20's.

My guess is the principal didn't act on something that may have been reported to her. I'm not suggesting she was part of a cover-up or anything like that. But Perhaps she was a part of the "not these fine people" crowd, and dismissed whatever she was told as just malicious rumor.

Pure conjecture on my part...but the timing of firing is certainly suspect.
