The "online journalist" strikes again and reports on alleged vote-buying.

Vote-buying? Money in envelopes?  $15 will get you a vote? What is going on in Mississippi?  A Reverend Stevie Fielder of Meridian told "online journalist" Charles Johnson he participated in a vote-buying scheme for the Cochran campaign.  Mr. Johnson reported:

A black reverend stiffed by the Cochran campaign has exposed an alleged criminal conspiracy by Cochran staffers to commit massive voter fraud ahead of Tuesday's controversial U.S. Senate Republican runoff election in Mississippi.

Reverend Stevie Fielder, associate pastor at historic First Union Missionary Baptist Church and former official at Meridian's redevelopment agency, says he delivered "hundreds or even thousands," of blacks to the polls after being offered money and being assured by a Cochran campaign operative that Chris McDaniel was a racist. "They [the Cochran campaign] told me to offer blacks fifteen dollars each and to vote for Thad."...

Text messages released to Got News and a recorded interview with Reverend Fielder confirmed that Saleem Baird, a staffer with the Cochran campaign and current legislative aide to U.S. Senator Roger Wicker, and Cochran campaign manager, Kirk Sims, were involved in a $15 per vote cash bribery scheme to target members of the black community....

For his efforts, Fielder says the Cochran campaign and Baird promised him $16,000 for paying black voters $15 a vote, but Baird wound up stiffing him. Baird even asked him to delete all texts between the two of them. In addition to Baird, Fielder says he spoke with Kirk Sims, the Cochran campaign manager, and a woman named "Amanda" with the campaign, most likely Amanda Shook, director of operations to re-elect Thad Cochran. All refused to pay him the agreed upon amount of $16,000.... Rest of "article"

The Cochran campaign issued this statement:

"There is absolutely no truth to these baseless and false allegations," said Cochran campaign spokesman Jordan Russell. "It comes from a blogger who in the last 24 hours has accused a Mississippi public official of being responsible for an individual's death and had to retract other outlandish accusations regarding another Mississippi elected official. The author of this article admits he paid his source for this story."

Time to play devil's advocate. Mr. Fielder got in trouble for home repair/contractor fraud in 2006 and 2010.  Minor affairs but had to get that out of the way.  Sources said the so-called money in envelopes was money paid to students who were paid to wave signs and go door-to-door for the campaign. Such money has to be tracked and accounted for properly.   Mr. Baird's name is also misspelled in the text messages. However, that name was probably entered into the phone by Mr. Fielder and its easy to understand how such an error could occur.

Mr. Johnson also admits he paid for the information.  Thus there is the possibility Mr. Fielder is working a hustle on an out of state reporter who is willing to pay.  The juicier the story..... you get the idea.  However, Mr. Johnson states there are more emails corroborating his story.  He said he will release them so it remains to be seen if there is more to this story.  The fact remains that Mr. Fielder is willing to make these charges on the record and revealed his text messages.   Stay tuned.

So I take it pastor ebonics will be in handcuffs sometime today for his admission to the felony voter fraud scheme?

Anonymous said...

If this can be proven it is huge. It could be a scam, but needs to be fully investigated. If it pans out it sounds like big trouble for a lot of folks. Time will tell.

Looks more like recruiting people to work GOTV driving voters to polls, knocking on doors, waving signs, etc. which is legal.

Hey man, I'll pay you $15 to vote for Thad. By the way, can you give me your name and home address so I can send you a 1099?

Anonymous said...

One question that I have, didn't I see that Kirk Sims "stepped back for personal reasons" during the runoff?

Anonymous said...

Didn't I see that Kirk Sims "stepped back for personal reasons" during the runoff?

Anonymous said...

Sure. He was asking for the names and addresses of persons he could pay to vote in a text message. That makes sense.

Anonymous said...

Why would the person sending over the money ask for the names and addresses of the people for the envelope. Think about it! If something illegal was happening, why would they TRACK the payments?

Buckwheat said...

I find this story hard to believe. Fielder says he talked to Kirk Sims. Surely Sims wouldn't be so stupid? Saleem, maybe what with his illegal strip club background. But he wouldn't be able to authorize a $16K payment, surely. Even thought I'm very skeptical, this ordeal should be thoroughly investigated.

Buckwheat said...

Furthermore, wouldn't Saleem know not to put those sorts of conversation in writing? Wouldn't he know to *just* talk on the phone?

Because all Massive Voter Fraud Schemes by NOT-True Conservatives (Who are in fact Liberal Democrats) are carried out by text requesting individual names, addresses and amounts and the delivery of the "Payoff" is carried out in daylight at the campaign office. And the appropriate forms are filled out too. It's an IRS EBV ("Establishment" Buying Votes), form. Yes.

It's a question for a grand jury. Why not take the guy at face value for what he said? They have bought black votes for decades in the South. I have a few black deacon friends than can and will be happy to tell you all about it. In fact, one told me less than an hr ago he's about to come post on here.

after listening to the audio it sounded like he was supposed to meet at the Cochran office implying that he was to get his money at that time this week? . they should have waited until the meeting and then got them as soon as he came out with the money. now that would be news. but it does not surprise me one bit for any political party to pull such a stunt as this. I really think he came forward because he did not get the money after the election and they were brushing him off. but he acted like it was his conscience that bothered him.....yeah, money talks. these political parties need to get these little frat boys off their campaign staff they seem to have too much control as they are just looking out for careers for themselves. when I contact the cochran DC office they are nothing but rude smart asses and treat the taxpayer with such disrespect. if this is true, I hope they throw those little green eared kids in jail. because you know if this is true thad's P.R. guy will make a public statement..."well this was an isolated incident. thad was not aware that his staffers were committing these crimes. it will be dealt with and charges will be filed." and the cochran staff will move forward like nothing ever happened this story will dwindle away and he kept out of the media. (i.e.if this is all true)

1041 and think of how many have not gotten caught! many times state executives are asked to resign to keep it out of the public media. this is to protect the image of the entity. and especially where the __________ (fill in the blank) reigns over an entity...those are very well protected politically. In cases, high paying positions are not fired, they are usually demoted to keep their hands out of the number books and to prevent them from having a position that makes decisions. they are asked to find another job and then resign. that way they can go quietly into the sunset and then move on to another state and start all over again. it is a never ending process and very sad that our culture protects the people to protect their own image. and what is even more interesting is that most of these people are from out of state that could not give one damn iota about Mississippi money. we need to hire Mississippi born and bred people to run our agencies especially in executive level positions and quit hiring these out of state people and our own state's politicians' nieces, nephews, brothers, girlfriends, etc. Out of state folks don't give a damn about us and hiring all the family members of politicians to work in our state agencies has only increased the level of incompetence because they do not have to be qualified. Mississippi corruption? you damn right!

so going back to my conment the other day where someone called me a racist for stating the following: and I will say this again.....I'm a senior citizen so I have observed the voting environment for years in Madison County! when I left the Madison precinct of the runoff election, there were groups of elder blacks standing in groups outside. this is the first time I have ever seen blacks at a Republican runoff. I was called a racist for stating this but this is just a fact as I am from Madison County born and bred (I am NOT a transplant from another county or state and not young) I am just telling you what I observed in all my years of voting. and that is it.. .. just a very unusual observation

has the Cochran campaign made a statement today regarding this? seems like if you were innocent you would make an immediate statement. human behavior is if your innocent you would defend yourself immediately.....but just like children are they stepping back to compare the stories and gather their information before making a statement? let's see how much time this takes.

Just read the Slate Article. Seems that Mr. Johnson is ALWAYS apologizing for hist honest mistakes. We saw it just yesterday regarding Mr. Hoseman. In addition -- offering the $2k reward for more photos of Mrs. Cochran in her bed at the nursing home, is also something he promoted ----- how low can you go?

The Tea Party has hired this thug, based on other links, to come into state and continuously throw things against the wall, to see what sticks.

Facts don't seem to matter to these TPers.

Big point everyone is missing here--state law ALLOWS democrats to vote in REPUBLICAN primary run offs, as long as they didn't vote in the DEMOCRATIC primary. State law, passed by state lawmakers. If Chris McDaniel didn't like it, he was head of elections in the senate, why didn't he change it? That's because he was too busy grandstanding to bother doing his job--that's only when he bothered showing up for work. Check your facts people. Chris McDaniel did nothing in the state senate but grandstand and that is all he will do in the US senate. Only an egotistical person, out for themselves, would ever go on national tv and run down our state.

Looks like this guy's story is already starting to unravel:

1. Fielder isn't an associate minister at said church, as he claimed.

2. Jordan Russell (Cochran spokesman) admitted that Fielder was paid for GOTV work. Russell says that the campaign agreed to pay him $600 total (half before, half after). After receiving the initial $300, though, Fielder didn't complete the work as per the deal, so the campaign didn't pay him the final $300.

3. Russell says that all of GOTV campaign workers are paid with envelopes that contain cash.

The "journalist" CharlesCJohnson also linked to this story(link below) at "National Report", which, at first glance, was obviously a satire paper full of spoof and parody. Of course, only after being called out several times, he apologized without referencing the truth that it was sloppy "reporting"of a fake report of a parody medium.

Chuckie is notorious for using circular sources for which he is the original "unnamed source", and then taking credit for "breaking the story". If he were working in the financial sector using these methods, he'd be convicted of fraud pretty easily. But since this is "political news" and he can hide behind the 1st Amendment with his little grifting scam, he is pretty well insulated from justice.

It appears that he did similar reporting in the Lonegan-Booker Senate race in New Jersey. Lonegan has been exec director of AFP, a Koch Bros.-controlled entity which funnels $$$ and support to "Tea Party" candidates all over the country. I'm shocked that there are so many uninformed persons who give
attention to this type of "journalism". It seems that many folks would rather believe unsubstantiated claims about a political opponent than to dig a little and learn the truth about their own candidate. Pretty Sad.

The response from the campaign sounded like a long version of, "Who are you going to believe, your lying eyes or us?" The pastor is on audio stating what he said transpired, produced what appears to be legitimate emails and text messages, and has given names and the instructions he was given. He did not say that they asked him to get people to walk door-to-door, he said they asked him to get the people to vote and pay them at the polls. The list of names - well, lets turn them over to the FBI and let them call each of them and see what they were asked to do for the $15. Most poll workers are paid $100, not $15. Most people who walk door-to-door, are campaign volunteers - and it is hours of long hard, hot work - was their labor only worth $15? Why was the pastor asked to destroy all emails and texts, if nothing is wrong? If they know this individual pastor has a shady past going back a few years, why did Snowden's campaign hire him and why was the Cochran campaign dealing with him, knowing he has a past history? This individual with Wicker's staff, and working on Cochran's campaign, from stories back in 2011, doesn't sound like a "family values" sort of guy. Hopefully the FBI will do due diligence and get to the truth - a concerned nation is waiting.

The only person benefitting from this mess is Travis Childers. I don't think he even knows which way he wants to see this thing go anymore. Last week, he was probably hoping the whole cross-over fraud thing would go through so he could face a McDaniel who, he probably correctly viewed, would be an easily defeated candidate based on his rhetoric, his poor record in the Mississippi senate, his antics leading up to the primary, and the fact that Mississippi voters (except those on the far right/tea party wing) are suffering from McDaniel-fatigue. But now, with all the mud that the TP and McDaniel supporters are slinging at Cochran and the Mississippi GOP, Childers is probably wondering if he should be hoping for a face off with Cochran. So is the the McDaniel/TP strategy just a McDaniel or nothing approach? I thought the goal was to put forward the best candidate, not to do the other party's work for them.

The Tea Party groups are all pretty much buying Johnson's reporting as gospel. That in itself red flags it for me. Plus Johnson is soliciting for donations through GoFundMe while he pursues this. Granted, I dont know enough about Johnson to say he is being dishonestly sensational about his "findings" but there's a lot of suspicion. So far I think 100% of the issues that were able to be researched from Johnson's "research" have proven false. As a general rule, if you have to pay for a confession, there is too much of a chance that it is not a legitimate confession. IMHO

Chris McDaniel’s seems to believe that only a certain segment of our society is worthy of participating in the American process or its leadership. As the daughter of a World War II veteran and sister to 4 brothers who served in the military, including the Vietnam War I nor my vote is for sale. Mississippi African Americans did not vote for Thad Cochran for money but in the best interest of our community. Just to be clear, I am not on public assistance of any kind.

Fair enough on everything that has been said. As soon as the story came out, surely the campaign voluntarily surrendered to the FBI, AG Hood, and to the Sec of State's office, all of the lists of names and the amount of money paid out and to whom - and they have not made any direct or indirect attempts to contact any potential witnesses. Making statements to the media, posting blogs, and social media doesn't prove anything on either side. The video of the interview should have set all authorities into motion, immediately. Hopefully all investigating agencies are at full throttle gathering the evidence, talking to witnesses. Lets relax for a bit, and see what the FBI comes up with. I for one, will not settle for any more spin, trying to distort the facts.

The problem is believing that those who have been doing politics for so long are dumb. They wouldn't have survived so long being this stupid.

KF its a shame that you would immediately go in on this guy's past in an attempt to discredit his story. That has nothing to do with his claim.

Everything doesn't need "analysis". The fact is pastors were paid and offered favors to encourage black dems to vote for Thad. It was not directly from the campaign. It was pac money that ol Pete oversaw. Instead of hirinng a traditional ground team for door-to-door thats what they used that money for. Bishop Crudup was one who participated. Thad's people were in on it but it technically didnt get their hands dirty. Voters were not paid individually and it will be difficult to prove the pastors were bribed. It all happened at the last minute purposely so the Democratic party wouldn't spoil their plans. The dems were against the massive push because McDaniel would have given the best shot at the seat.

Dude I don't have a problem with anyone. But if you'regonna be fair..be fair. Don't circulate bullshit just to rally up the base meanwhile taking money from the same good ol boy network to keep this website running.

Where is Pete Perry's mug shot that all the other stations have? Pete was set up to take that fall and the story was planted in the mainstream for revenge.

Is there perhaps a more relevant point being missed?
Workers for GOTV paid in cash with no accounting as to the amount in the envelope? If I did that in my business the IRS and MS State Tax Cimmission would be at my doorstep.
Doesn't this payment "in cash" via any public official create an opportunity to skirt the payment of federal taxes, social security, state taxes, etc.? I can't recall ever seeing envelopes of cash being used where some level of corruption didn't exist.

Anonymous said...

@6:06
Federal taxes, social security, state taxes, etc aren't deducted from cash payments to a contractor. When you pay your cleaning lady in cash, or the kid down the street for cutting your yard you don't file all the paperwork that you do for an employee on your payroll.
The whole point of getting the names and addresses for the cash payments is to file the proper paperwork that IS required for contract workers. I get a stack of 10-99s every year from people who have paid me but not withheld taxes. The taxes are up to me to handle.
This whole circular argument for seeing something nefarious in Baird asking for identifying info from the good Rev vs griping about the campaign not paying taxes or listing them as employees makes no sense to me.

I've noticed the very same with KF and Gallo. Had to quit Gallo though. KF is on the edge now too. Both in the tank for the man with Dementia. 42 year incumbent who struggles to read a speech and he is suppose to be responsible for casting votes representing us?

So why don't all of you who voted for Cochran go ahead and admit it... "I aint too bright! I voted for someone who struggles to give a speech and I expect him to read all bills and understand them and then vote on them on my behalf."

##############

To the young journalist - Johnson: If you take down Cochran, many of these (which includes MS MEDIA) who have gotten their share of money from Cochran supporting PACs to protect him, they will need to nurse sorrows guzzling down a lot of booze.

No DUIs, now hear me, Y'all?

Trollfest '09

Trollfest '07 was such a success that Jackson Jambalaya will once again host Trollfest '09. Catch this great event which will leave NE Jackson & Fondren in flames. Othor Cain and his band, The Black Power Structure headline the night while Sonjay Poontang returns for an encore performance. Former Frank Melton bodyguard Marcus Wright makes his premier appearance at Trollfest singing "I'm a Sweet Transvestite" from "The Rocky Horror Picture Show." Kamikaze will sing his new hit, “How I sold out to da Man.” Robbie Bell again performs: “Mamas, don't let your babies grow up to be Bells” and “Any friend of Ed Peters is a friend of mine”. After the show, Ms. Bell will autograph copies of her mug shot photos. In a salute to “Dancing with the Stars”, Ms. Bell and Hinds County District Attorney Robert Smith will dance the Wango Tango.

Wrestling returns, except this time it will be a Battle Royal with Othor Cain, Ben Allen, Kim Wade, Haley Fisackerly, Alan Lange, and “Big Cat” Donna Ladd all in the ring at the same time. The Battle Royal will be in a steel cage, no time limit, no referee, and the losers must leave town. Marshand Crisler will be the honorary referee (as it gives him a title without actually having to do anything).

Meet KIM Waaaaaade at the Entergy Tent. For five pesos, Kim will sell you a chance to win a deed to a crack house on Ridgeway Street stuffed in the Howard Industries pinata. Don't worry if the pinata is beaten to shreds, as Mr. Wade has Jose, Emmanuel, and Carlos, all illegal immigrants, available as replacements for the it. Upon leaving the Entergy tent, fig leaves will be available in case Entergy literally takes everything you have as part of its Trollfest ticket price adjustment charge.

Donna Ladd of The Jackson Free Press will give several classes on learning how to write. Smearing, writing without factchecking, and reporting only one side of a story will be covered. A donation to pay their taxes will be accepted and she will be signing copies of their former federal tax liens. Ms. Ladd will give a dramatic reading of her two award-winning essays (They received The Jackson Free Press "Best Of" awards.) "Why everything is always about me" and "Why I cover murders better than anyone else in Jackson".

In the spirit of helping those who are less fortunate, Trollfest '09 adopts a cause for which a portion of the proceeds and donations will be donated: Keeping Frank Melton in his home. The “Keep Frank Melton From Being Homeless” booth will sell chances for five dollars to pin the tail on the jackass. John Reeves has graciously volunteered to be the jackass for this honorable excursion into saving Frank's ass. What's an ass between two friends after all? If Mr. Reeves is unable to um, perform, Speaker Billy McCoy has also volunteered as when the word “jackass” was mentioned he immediately ran as fast as he could to sign up.

In order to help clean up the legal profession, Adam Kilgore of the Mississippi Bar will be giving away free, round-trip plane tickets to the North Pole where they keep their bar complaint forms (which are NOT available online). If you don't want to go to the North Pole, you can enjoy Brant Brantley's (of the Mississippi Commission on Judicial Performance) free guided tours of the quicksand field over by High Street where all complaints against judges disappear. If for some reason you are unable to control yourself, never fear; Judge Houston Patton will operate his jail where no lawyers are needed or allowed as you just sit there for minutes... hours.... months...years until he decides he is tired of you sitting in his jail. Do not think Judge Patton is a bad judge however as he plans to serve free Mad Dog 20/20 to all inmates.

Trollfest '09 is a pet-friendly event as well. Feel free to bring your dog with you and do not worry if your pet gets hungry, as employees of the Jackson Zoo will be on hand to provide some of their animals as food when it gets to be feeding time for your little loved one.

Relax at the Fox News Tent. Since there are only three blonde reporters in Jackson (being blonde is a requirement for working at Fox News), Megan and Kathryn from WAPT and Wendy from WLBT will be on loan to Fox. To gain admittance to the VIP section, bring either your Republican Party ID card or a Rebel Flag. Bringing both and a torn-up Obama yard sign will entitle you to free drinks served by Megan, Wendy, and Kathryn. Get your tickets now. Since this is an event for trolls, no ID is required. Just bring the hate. Bring the family, Trollfest '09 is for EVERYONE!!!

This is definitely a Beaver production.
