Supervisors fire Overby and Hall. Votes to buy bank building for tax assessor and collector.
Updated: The Madison County Journal reported more details on the meeting last night:
"Madison County supervisors fired the county administrator tonight without giving any reason and made a multitude of other changes, including moving their meeting time.
Madison County Administrator David Overby was dismissed during the bi-monthly meeting of the Board of Supervisors.
No reason was given for the action, which was done in executive session. The vote passed 3-2. Supervisors Karl Banks, John Bell Crosby and Paul Griffin voted in favor of the dismissal. Gerald Steen and Ronnie Lott voted against.
Comptroller Shelton Vance was named interim County Administrator.
Overby's dismissal came amidst several changes by what appears to be the new majority voting block. Crosby, Griffin and Banks proposed a handful of other changes in a matter of minutes at the end of the meeting.
Included were:
*The firing of Strategic Marketing, a public relations firm hired by the county last year.
*Moving the meeting time from 6 p.m. back to the previously scheduled 9 a.m.
*Replacing Steen with Crosby on the budget committee and Central Mississippi Planning and Development District.
*Moving forward with a new road plan that includes spending $700,000 for a lake project near Sharon in northeast Madison County.
Supervisors also approved moving forward with the purchase of Community Bank in Madison to be the new county annex building.
Supervisors have previously voted against the many attempts by Crosby to move forward with the purchase."
These actions were a huge slap to Gerald Steen. The board fired his boys, Heath Hall (Strategic Marketing Group) and David Overby. It was no secret Steen opposed the purchase of the building. Huggie Bear said the word on the street was Gene McGee wanted the tax collector and tax assessor to move in to the current building housing Ridgeland PD after RPD eventually moved into a new building. The problem is, the current building housing those two offices suffers from several structural issues.
Is John Bell becoming another Tim Johnson or Ronnie Chappell? The election is over and now he can show his true colors. Mr. Crosby voted with Karl and Paul last night. The question about last night's actions is whether where there were truly any good guys in this fight. However, there is one vote Mr. Crosby took that should concern everyone: moving the meetings back to 9:00 AM. Apparently the board likes to have their meetings when no one can attend. Keep in mind Karl, Paul, and John Bell refused to second a motion by D.I. Smith a few years ago to study putting the meetings on the county website.
Welcome to a bi-partisan and bi-racial politics. Doug, Bennie, and Ronnie, Paul, Tim, and Karl, and now Paul, Karl, and John Bell. Ebony and ivory......

Trollfest '09
Trollfest '07 was such a success that Jackson Jambalaya will once again host Trollfest '09. Catch this great event which will leave NE Jackson & Fondren in flames. Othor Cain and his band, The Black Power Structure headline the night while Sonjay Poontang returns for an encore performance. Former Frank Melton bodyguard Marcus Wright makes his premier appearance at Trollfest singing "I'm a Sweet Transvestite" from "The Rocky Horror Picture Show." Kamikaze will sing his new hit, “How I sold out to da Man.” Robbie Bell again performs: “Mamas, don't let your babies grow up to be Bells” and “Any friend of Ed Peters is a friend of mine”. After the show, Ms. Bell will autograph copies of her mug shot photos. In a salute to “Dancing with the Stars”, Ms. Bell and Hinds County District Attorney Robert Smith will dance the Wango Tango.
Wrestling returns, except this time it will be a Battle Royal with Othor Cain, Ben Allen, Kim Wade, Haley Fisackerly, Alan Lange, and “Big Cat” Donna Ladd all in the ring at the same time. The Battle Royal will be in a steel cage, no time limit, no referee, and the losers must leave town. Marshand Crisler will be the honorary referee (as it gives him a title without actually having to do anything).
Meet KIM Waaaaaade at the Entergy Tent. For five pesos, Kim will sell you a chance to win a deed to a crack house on Ridgeway Street stuffed in the Howard Industries pinata. Don't worry if the pinata is beaten to shreds, as Mr. Wade has Jose, Emmanuel, and Carlos, all illegal immigrants, available as replacements for the it. Upon leaving the Entergy tent, fig leaves will be available in case Entergy literally takes everything you have as part of its Trollfest ticket price adjustment charge.
Donna Ladd of The Jackson Free Press will give several classes on learning how to write. Smearing, writing without factchecking, and reporting only one side of a story will be covered. A donation to pay their taxes will be accepted and she will be signing copies of their former federal tax liens. Ms. Ladd will give a dramatic reading of her two award-winning essays (They received The Jackson Free Press "Best Of" awards.) "Why everything is always about me" and "Why I cover murders better than anyone else in Jackson".
In the spirit of helping those who are less fortunate, Trollfest '09 adopts a cause for which a portion of the proceeds and donations will be donated: Keeping Frank Melton in his home. The “Keep Frank Melton From Being Homeless” booth will sell chances for five dollars to pin the tail on the jackass. John Reeves has graciously volunteered to be the jackass for this honorable excursion into saving Frank's ass. What's an ass between two friends after all? If Mr. Reeves is unable to um, perform, Speaker Billy McCoy has also volunteered as when the word “jackass” was mentioned he immediately ran as fast as he could to sign up.
In order to help clean up the legal profession, Adam Kilgore of the Mississippi Bar will be giving away free, round-trip plane tickets to the North Pole where they keep their bar complaint forms (which are NOT available online). If you don't want to go to the North Pole, you can enjoy Brant Brantley's (of the Mississippi Commission on Judicial Performance) free guided tours of the quicksand field over by High Street where all complaints against judges disappear. If for some reason you are unable to control yourself, never fear; Judge Houston Patton will operate his jail where no lawyers are needed or allowed as you just sit there for minutes... hours.... months...years until he decides he is tired of you sitting in his jail. Do not think Judge Patton is a bad judge however as he plans to serve free Mad Dog 20/20 to all inmates.
Trollfest '09 is a pet-friendly event as well. Feel free to bring your dog with you and do not worry if your pet gets hungry, as employees of the Jackson Zoo will be on hand to provide some of their animals as food when it gets to be feeding time for your little loved one.
Relax at the Fox News Tent. Since there are only three blonde reporters in Jackson (being blonde is a requirement for working at Fox News), Megan and Kathryn from WAPT and Wendy from WLBT will be on loan to Fox. To gain admittance to the VIP section, bring either your Republican Party ID card or a Rebel Flag. Bringing both and a torn-up Obama yard sign will entitle you to free drinks served by Megan, Wendy, and Kathryn. Get your tickets now. Since this is an event for trolls, no ID is required. Just bring the hate. Bring the family, Trollfest '09 is for EVERYONE!!!
This is definitely a Beaver production.

Trollfest '07
Jackson Jambalaya is the home of Trollfest '07. Catch this great event which promises to leave NE Jackson & Fondren in flames. Sonjay Poontang and his band headline the night with a special steel cage, no time limit "loser must leave town" bout between Alan Lange and "Big Cat"Donna Ladd following afterwards. Kamikaze will perform his new song F*** Bush, he's still a _____. Did I mention there was no referee? Dr. Heddy Matthias and Lori Gregory will face off in the undercard dueling with dangling participles and other um, devices. Robbie Bell will perform Her two latest songs: My Best Friends are in the Media and Mama's, Don't Let Your Babies Grow up to be George Bell. Sid Salter of The Clarion-Ledger will host "Pin the Tail on the Trial Lawyer", sponsored by State Farm.
There will be a hugging booth where in exchange for your young son, Frank Melton will give you a loooong hug. Trollfest will have a dunking booth where Muhammed the terrorist will curse you to Allah as you try to hit a target that will drop him into a vat of pig grease. However, in the true spirit of Separate But Equal, Don Imus and someone from NE Jackson will also sit in the dunking booth for an equal amount of time. Tom Head will give a reading for two hours on why he can't figure out who the hell he is. Cliff Cargill will give lessons with his .80 caliber desert eagle, using Frank Melton photos as targets. Tackleberry will be on hand for an autograph session. KIM Waaaaaade will be passing out free titles and deeds to crackhouses formerly owned by The Wood Street Players.

Mayor and Crosby are in agreement that Jackson State branch will have contract to manage Nissan plant following union vote.
Kingfish submits successful bid to advertise all requests for proposal for minority contractors.
Madison County seems to go through County Administrators at an alarming pace........
Who profits from the purchase of the bank building?
It really is simple. The shellacking Crosby took in the recent race for Mayor revealed how truly weak he is while the debate exposed him as a bumbling idiot. He's a goner in 2015. A GONER. Between now and then JBC will be all about retribution.
I'm proud of Crosby. Steen is a snake.
Central Miss. Planning and Development is over the metro planning of federal and state road projects. There may be some change in how the "new 3" want road money spend.
Now that Overby is gone maybe they will now go after the HR director who is nothing more than a Tim Johnson plant.
You skipped the short but important period of Karl, Paul and Gerald when the millage increase was approved. At this point everyone should clearly see that it's never been Tim Johnson or Gerald Steen or John Bell Crosby pulling the strings on the board - Karl Banks is the man, and will remain so as long as JBC follows his instructions.
I always thought that about Karl. He's smarter than the entire Hinds BOS put together, except for Phil Fisher of course.
Karl Banks is a player, no doubt. However, Heath Hall should have never been hired in the first place. That was a sweetheart political hire, as was the lobbying contract with Steve Seale last term. It was engineered by Steen. Republican used to criticize this, but now that they have the votes, they are doing the same thing. The only one on the Board who is truly acting with integrity and with the good of the county in mind is Ronnie Lott.
John Bell is dumb.
Ronnie Lott is learning and thus far appears to want to do what is right.
Gerald Steen is very savvy politically and is a snake.
Paul Griffin is honest and a good guy, but only worries about his very rural district. He wants all money spent paving gravel roads with two houses on them.
Karl is smart and politically savvy. He does get a lot of stuff done without the redtape BS. Karl is the best at getting stuff done and actually accomplishing things that need doing. I'm just not sure it is always on the up and up.
Madison County always seems to have crooks (Elvis) or honest people who want to meet, plan, and basically be bureaucrats while nothing actually gets done (DI Smith). I long for the days of leaders who can actually get work done while doing it honestly.
10:31 - good assessment. Best summary I have seen of the situation.
Everyone needs to remember its been over a year since the new board took office and Elvis was put out.
Now Overby is out and the county needs a new County Admin. It would not suprise me in the least to see the county hire Tim 'Elvis' Johnson as county admin.
The county has not heard the last of Elvis or his cronies !
And Elvis still drives the Crown Vic with black windows, If I'm not mistaken.
Look for Timmy to return.
Look for JBC to appear in jumpsuit.
Look for pickle spill, aisle 14.
I'm looking for a photo of David Richardson with the caption: "Miss Me Yet?"
It's out there somewhere.
David (Road Grader) Richardson...hehe
@ 10:03 You must have never watched Ronnie Lott at a BOS meeting. He doesnt have a clue as to whats going on, probably the dumbest board member in history. Brags about wanting to cut the "FAT" while riding around in his new Tahoe. Voted to give apartments a TAX deduction,(Ronnie a City of Madison Supervisor?) His solution to the budget was to hold up a sign. Must have been watching "Occupy Madison County" on TV. Voted to build a 1.5 million dollar PARK in northern Madison County while voting against a BIGGER AND NEWER COUNTY ANNEX at the entrance of The City of Madison which is in his district. Not acting with integrity, acting like anothe ONE-TERM MISTAKE!!!!!!!!
Steen, Overby and Hall all do Gene Magee bidding. They tried to screw Gerald Barbour. He hadnt done anything to them but they wanted to tell him where he was going to do business. So what happened? Gerald told them I WILL TAKE THAT BUILDING AND I WILL HAVE 2 OF YOUR LITTLE PUPPETS FIRED FOR MESSING WITH ME. So who is the REAL politician in all this? GERALD Barbour! So what no one seems to be asking is HOW DID BARBOUR GET THE BOS TO CHANGE THEIR VOTE AGAIN BACK TO FAVOR HIM? Remember, first they voted in favor of the bank building, then against, then back again. We know why they voted against, it was so Barbour would have to move his office in Gene Magee city building. Gerald Steen is Michael Corleone in GF2. Remember when the Senator tried to shake MC down for the casino...Michael said "SENATOR, YOU CAN HAVE MY ANSWER NOW IF YOU LIKE. MY FINAL OFFER IS THIS: NOTHING. NOT EVEN THE FEE FOR THE GAMING LICENSE, WHICH I WOULD APPRECIATE IF YOU WOULD PUT UP PERSONALLY." BOOM! DONE! Always remember, when you screw with someone, they get a vote on how its gonna play out! Thus endeth the lesson!!!!!
Overby's probably about as qualified as they come for this job. It's not the first time he's lost a job, and I hope he comes out OK.
Ben Bowman: "You set him up kinda neat for an elderly college professor." Jonathan Hemlock: "You got me in shape. - Ben Bowman: "It's not that. You set him up like you were used to setting people up."
-The Eiger Sanction Gerald Steen got SET UP and LAID OUT
Tim Johnson and one of his cronies, a former county road department "business manager" will be coming back. Former road dept business manager was in the court house last night when everything came down. He didnt have his saxophone with him though so he could play overby a sad song.
Rumor has it that former road dept business manager has been patronizing Tulane in City of Madison studying for a degree in "Homeland Security and Emergency Management".
Madison County is the most corrupt country in the state. If Tim "Elvis" Johnson comes back I predict plenty of indictments. John Bell is a rube!!!!!!! Go figure........
yes, much worse than hinds county. right...
