Hinds misses deadline for redistricting (Video).

Here is the video from the regular meeting of the Hinds County Board of Supervisors yesterday. Start watching at 7:00 when the Election Commission informs the board the county missed the deadline for moving voters. Mississippi law states voters can not be moved 60 days prior to an election. The supervisors are clearly shocked when they get the news. So sorry. Here is the video:

Here is the statute:

SEC. 23-15-285. Entry of boundaries and alterations thereto on minutes of board of supervisors; limit on number of voters within each precinct or ballot box.

The board of supervisors shall cause an entry to be made on the minutes of the board at some meeting, as early as convenient, defining the boundaries of the several supervisors districts and voting precincts in the county, and designating the voting place in each voting precinct; and as soon as practicable after any alteration shall have been made in any supervisors district or voting precinct, or any voting place changed, shall cause such alteration or change to be entered on the minutes of the board in such manner as to be easily understood; provided, however, that no voting precinct shall have more than five hundred (500) qualified electors residing in its boundaries and the board of supervisors of the various counties of this state shall as soon as practical after the effective date of this section, alter or change the boundaries of the various voting precincts to comply herewith and shall from time to time make such alterations or changes in the boundaries of voting precincts so that there shall never be more than five hundred (500) qualified electors within the boundaries of the various voting precincts of this state; provided further, this limitation shall not apply wherein voting precincts are so divided, alphabetically or otherwise, so as to have less than five hundred (500) qualified electors in any one (1) box within a voting precinct; provided, however, that the limitation of five hundred (500) qualified electors to the voting precinct shall not apply wherein voting machines are used at all elections held in any voting precinct; but no alteration of any supervisor's district or voting precinct shall take effect within two (2) months before an election to be held in the district or voting precinct. Provided, however, that, with the exception of county lines and municipal corporate limits, such altered boundaries shall conform to visible natural or artificial boundaries such as streets, highways, railroads, rivers, lakes, bayous or other obvious lines of demarcation.

By the way, Here is the JFP's coverage of the meeting yesterday. See any mention of this?

Like Tom Head is famous for saying you can't expect much from a free weekly entertainment paper.

Reminds me Mr. Kingfish of that old adage you get what you pay double for.

I have a better question: Don't these supervisors read the paper and/or watch the news? Two words: Madison County. That should've provided plenty of education on the subject of redistricting. Hell, I bet even Fisher knew about the Madison County fiasco all the way in Afghanistan.

In Tom Head's own words:

But I think it's important to remember that the JFP is a small Fondren paper that focuses mainly on weekend entertainment events. Think Northside Sun, not Washington Post. Donna and Adam have done some fine coverage of some high-profile events, such as the Killen trial, and sometimes the coverage gets so good that we expect more from them than we really ought to--but there isn't a "there" there in terms of expecting Donna or the JFP to be huge institutional conscience-of-the-community type figures. There's no budget for that; this is a very small operation. You could start up a personal blog and within two weeks exceed the JFP's readership.

They are bumbling idiots. I don't think they really get it. They are stuck with the current boundaries no matter what.

Also, for the Fondren Bugle, I got nothing. This is just another example of the "manufacturing of consent" with regards to a certain persona that drives the progressive creative class message.

Doubt they would even understand the above, but thought I would put it out there.

With this type of leadership, Jacktroit is doomed.

The "consultant" is a bullshit artist. The Board Attorney is an idiot. Did we expect they would get this right?

Where's Twitterwell? On the grand scale of local problems that need to be addressed the incompetence of the Hinds BOS surely is exponentially bigger than the crisis he concocted over roadside puppy sales. Or does WhitRINOwell only dog out other Republicans?

Six sigma certain Kingfish
that MS Muni League and MS Assoc
of Sups has been prev alerted
to the facts surrounding
Derrick Johnson's lack of standing
as a MS BAR attorney and prof
svcs contracting thresholds.
No doubt this F Up re: Hinds
redist will loom large in the
consideration of his svcs @
Muni and County level
going forward.

Too funny the Bugle is now front webpage featuring wannabe Graham in his JPD cadet uniform.

Marsha Thompson ripped the Hinds Sups a new one tonight.

Isn't George Smith facing Stokes in a primary?

Kingfish, how did you not wet the floor from not laughing when this went down...the expressions are priceless!

Well, I was leaning against the wall while I worked the camera. I made a point to smirk whenever they looked at me. Doug stared at me several times during the meeting with a glare.

Once again we are treated to the spectacle of complete incompetence in elected officials. At least our corrupt supervisors in Madison County were able to get their plan approved in time to screw the electorate up here and stay within the timeframes required by state law. I don't know who's more pathetic - the painfully dumb supervisors or the equally dumb people who elect them. Bill Billingsley

I heard that Derrick Johnson did the same for Wilkinson County. Came back also. Wonder how many counties he has done this for?

Trollfest '09

Trollfest '07 was such a success that Jackson Jambalaya will once again host Trollfest '09. Catch this great event which will leave NE Jackson & Fondren in flames. Othor Cain and his band, The Black Power Structure headline the night while Sonjay Poontang returns for an encore performance. Former Frank Melton bodyguard Marcus Wright makes his premier appearance at Trollfest singing "I'm a Sweet Transvestite" from "The Rocky Horror Picture Show." Kamikaze will sing his new hit, “How I sold out to da Man.” Robbie Bell again performs: “Mamas, don't let your babies grow up to be Bells” and “Any friend of Ed Peters is a friend of mine”. After the show, Ms. Bell will autograph copies of her mug shot photos. In a salute to “Dancing with the Stars”, Ms. Bell and Hinds County District Attorney Robert Smith will dance the Wango Tango.

Wrestling returns, except this time it will be a Battle Royal with Othor Cain, Ben Allen, Kim Wade, Haley Fisackerly, Alan Lange, and “Big Cat” Donna Ladd all in the ring at the same time. The Battle Royal will be in a steel cage, no time limit, no referee, and the losers must leave town. Marshand Crisler will be the honorary referee (as it gives him a title without actually having to do anything).

Meet KIM Waaaaaade at the Entergy Tent. For five pesos, Kim will sell you a chance to win a deed to a crack house on Ridgeway Street stuffed in the Howard Industries pinata. Don't worry if the pinata is beaten to shreds, as Mr. Wade has Jose, Emmanuel, and Carlos, all illegal immigrants, available as replacements for the it. Upon leaving the Entergy tent, fig leaves will be available in case Entergy literally takes everything you have as part of its Trollfest ticket price adjustment charge.

Donna Ladd of The Jackson Free Press will give several classes on learning how to write. Smearing, writing without factchecking, and reporting only one side of a story will be covered. A donation to pay their taxes will be accepted and she will be signing copies of their former federal tax liens. Ms. Ladd will give a dramatic reading of her two award-winning essays (They received The Jackson Free Press "Best Of" awards.) "Why everything is always about me" and "Why I cover murders better than anyone else in Jackson".

In the spirit of helping those who are less fortunate, Trollfest '09 adopts a cause for which a portion of the proceeds and donations will be donated: Keeping Frank Melton in his home. The “Keep Frank Melton From Being Homeless” booth will sell chances for five dollars to pin the tail on the jackass. John Reeves has graciously volunteered to be the jackass for this honorable excursion into saving Frank's ass. What's an ass between two friends after all? If Mr. Reeves is unable to um, perform, Speaker Billy McCoy has also volunteered as when the word “jackass” was mentioned he immediately ran as fast as he could to sign up.

In order to help clean up the legal profession, Adam Kilgore of the Mississippi Bar will be giving away free, round-trip plane tickets to the North Pole where they keep their bar complaint forms (which are NOT available online). If you don't want to go to the North Pole, you can enjoy Brant Brantley's (of the Mississippi Commission on Judicial Performance) free guided tours of the quicksand field over by High Street where all complaints against judges disappear. If for some reason you are unable to control yourself, never fear; Judge Houston Patton will operate his jail where no lawyers are needed or allowed as you just sit there for minutes... hours.... months...years until he decides he is tired of you sitting in his jail. Do not think Judge Patton is a bad judge however as he plans to serve free Mad Dog 20/20 to all inmates.

Trollfest '09 is a pet-friendly event as well. Feel free to bring your dog with you and do not worry if your pet gets hungry, as employees of the Jackson Zoo will be on hand to provide some of their animals as food when it gets to be feeding time for your little loved one.

Relax at the Fox News Tent. Since there are only three blonde reporters in Jackson (being blonde is a requirement for working at Fox News), Megan and Kathryn from WAPT and Wendy from WLBT will be on loan to Fox. To gain admittance to the VIP section, bring either your Republican Party ID card or a Rebel Flag. Bringing both and a torn-up Obama yard sign will entitle you to free drinks served by Megan, Wendy, and Kathryn. Get your tickets now. Since this is an event for trolls, no ID is required. Just bring the hate. Bring the family, Trollfest '09 is for EVERYONE!!!

This is definitely a Beaver production.
