The Mississippi Parole Board done did it again and put a first-round draft pick in the world of crime back on the street.
Longtime JJ readers may remember Tommy Young. Young and his cohorts went on a carjacking and robbery spree in Northeast Jackson back in 2013. Former JPD Chief Lee Vance said Young was an "impact player" among local criminals and that police could tell when he is free by the crime stats.
Young and his crew weren't too smart during their little field trip of crime one day as police pursued them on a high speed chase. The Young gang crashed their car at the stack and ran into the woods by the Pearl River Levee. Law enforcement officials from both Rankin and Hinds counties continued the chase and caught them in the woods on foot. WLBT's Skycopter 3 caught their capture on camera.
Hinds County Circuit Judge Bill Gowan sentenced Tommy Young, Jr. to serve 15 years in prison in 2015 after he pleaded guilty to eight counts of armed robbery, simple carjacking, simple robbery, and armed carjacking.*
In its infinite wisdom, the Mississippi Parole Board released Young from prison.
Kingfish note: Stay tuned, folks. The chances are you will be reading about him before too long.
*Judge Gowan meted out the following sentences to the little thug:
Simple Robbery: 15 years in prison.
Simple Carjacking: 15 years in prison.
Gun Armed Carjacking: 15 years in prison
Gun Armed Carjacking: 25 years in prison with ten years suspended.
Gun Armed Robbery: 25 years in prison with ten years suspended.
Gun Armed Robbery: 15 years in prison.
Simple Robbery: 15 years in prison.
Simple Robbery: 15 years in prison.
All sentences are to run concurrently. Judge Gowan also gave Young credit for time served and imposed an additional sentence of supervised probation for five years as well. Judge Gowan remanded four other charges as part of the plea agreement.

Gowan should have ordered them to run consecutively so this couldn't happen.
The Parole Board has gone woke.
For our sake, I hope you are wrong. And that perhaps he found peace and rehabilitation while in corrections.
What the actual f*ck. What would Governor Ron Desantis do in this situation? Tate Reeves, please do something about this SHIT!!!!
Back on the street, but this time, as a much smarter criminal. I would put the recidivist potential of this guy at about 98%......and his crimes aren't likely to be jaywalking-related. In fact, in his community, he's likely to be seen as an OG now, so he'll be able to help groom the next brood of Tommy Youngs.
What you allow, you get more of.
Very likely, the parole board members will soon have the blood of an innocent on their hands.
5’ 2”
Little thug indeed. He is shorter than my 5’5” wife and also our teen daughter.
It could happen. At least that's what he told the parole board.
Can't we just talk about how wonderful downtown Jackson is going to be?
Even deep Red States let these criminals terrorize our communities over and over again. These people can't be rehabilitated. Keep them locked the hell up so they can't procreate and create the next generation of criminals. Why is this so hard?
First, there should be a law against concurrent sentencing. Secondly, there should be a law for no parole for a stack of charges like this (incredibly, Gowan remanded several additional charges).
But when has the Legislature done anything for the common citizen of this state? They're too busy exempting Entergy from Public Service Commission regulation and expanding gambling for the special interests.
Once he rolls a blunt, gets a stolen switched glock in his hand, and steals a Kia, he will feel like a big man again.
KF, you love to bitch every time the Parole Board releases someone on parole, especially when it is a Jackson area 'thug'.
Want them to do better - then the next time you are down visiting at the Mansion, checking on the dogs or going to the parties, why don't you suggest the Gov make some appointments to the Parole Board (and maybe this time, don't appoint a potential felon/father of a felon). There are two vacancies today, and have been for several months, and the Gov ain't been in any hurry to fill them. Today they can't do their job on capital cases because it takes four votes to deal with a capital case - hard to do with only three members.
The problem with the three there today is that one will grant parold most every day, one votes however he is told (when he is not out on medical leave). Get the third one some support and maybe you can quit writing about these concerns.
