Homecoming Massacre (Updated)

Governor announced expectant mother killed.

What should have been a night of fun turned deadly as shootings and homicides took place at no less than three Homecoming games in Mississippi last night.

Two were killed at Heidelberg's High  WDAM reported;

A celebration of high school football ended in gunfire and tragedy Friday night at the Heidelberg High School football field.

Heidelberg Police Chief Cornell White said two people were shot and killed on the high school’s grounds, and at least one more was wounded.

One victim was discovered on the school’s baseball field, while another died in a tailgating area near the bleachers.

White said the shooter or shooters remained at large. WDAM story and video.

At least four people were killed in Leland last night.  Yahoo News reported:

Four people were killed and at least 12 others were injured in a shooting early Saturday morning in Leland, Mississippi, officials said.

Leland Mayor John Lee told CBS News the shooting happened around midnight, and four of the injured people were airlifted to local hospitals. There was no immediate information about their condition.

There are no suspects in custody and the investigation is ongoing.

Leland High School played Charleston High School last night.  There were many visitors as it was Homecoming. 16 people were shot.

A drive-by shooting took place later that night apparently in retaliation.

This video appears to have been shot in Leland last night.

More mayhem took place at South Delta High School in Rolling Fork last night as well as one person was shot.  The Sharkey County Sheriff issued the following statement:

The Sharkey County Sheriff’s Department has arrested and charged two individuals in connection with the shooting that occurred outside of the football game at our local school last night. Sheriff Ceaser want to make it absolutely clear that acts of violence in our community will not be tolerated. Our team of law enforcement officers are committed to pursuing justice swiftly and ensuring the safety of all residents and visitors that come to our county. Our thoughts and prayers are with the victim’s family during this incredibly difficult time. We ask the community to come together in support and remain positive as the investigation continues.
We also send our prayers snd support to our fellow law enforcement agencies in Washington County and to all that were affected by the senseless violent shooting that occured in Leland this morning.

Update: Governor Tate Reeves issued the following statement.

I want to provide an update on the senseless acts of violence that occurred in Mississippi last night.
Initial investigations indicate that at Heidelberg High School, two people were killed, including an expectant mother. A suspect has been identified, and was taken into custody by law enforcement officials.
In Leland, multiple people were killed and injured during a shooting on one of the town’s main streets. Law enforcement officials are working to identify those responsible.
The Mississippi Bureau of Investigation is currently assisting local and federal law enforcement agencies in investigating. Law enforcement officials will provide updates once they are available.
Our state is praying for the victims and their families, as well as the entire Heidelberg and Leland communities. Those responsible will be brought to justice.

School Administrators have your school festivities during the school day or SaturDAY including football games! Dangerous snakes slither during the night! These cowards don’t come out until darkness.

Meanwhile, in north Fondren, residents had to put up with the six hour street party hosted by Taste. The city actually gave the restaurant a permit to disturb the peace. Neighbors called police all evening and nothing was done. So it looks like John Horhn does not give a rat's ass about quality of life issues in Jackson.

JJ lists two of the Football related shootings, Heidelberg and Leland. The 3rd was Sharkey County. IMO, the proliferation of handguns stolen from vehicles is such that 1. Certain types of crowds should be avoided and 2. Police need to set up unannounced road blocks to Stop And Search Effectively (SAFE) in locations known for stolen gun packers.

Using left-wing logic, these shootings would stop if high schools were abolished.

Stating the obvious - yet another reason for school choice. Mercifully my children have all managed to escape the public school system without being shot. There is no way I would send them to any public school in this state.

10:12 for the win. It won't stop the shootings, but it will stop them on school grounds. Of course, the NAACP and Southern Poverty Law Center will sue.

Maybe if there were laws that made shooting people illegal.

I had to travel up I-55 and across I-20 last night and it was like drivers had gone crazy, many of them with Louisiana plates.

I guess homecoming football games, coinciding with a JSU home game, the last weekend of the fair, and apparently some big party hosted by Taste in The Fondern, was just too much excitement for people to handle without losing their minds.

Many we should rethink stacking up too many parties in one weekend.

High School baseball games are played in the afternoons. Track meets generally held in daylight hours. Many (or most) basketball games and tournaments are during the day. Even half the college games are during the daytime beginning as early as 11:00.

Hold all high school games at 1:00 p.m. either on Friday, Saturday or Sunday...Just like soccer games and tournaments. There are lighted fields at all of these locations and events, yet all but football are held during the day.

Last weekend we had family day in the park in Collins Ms which is a yearly event. The event had food trucks and DJ’s. The Event was from 10:00am until 6:00pm! Everyone seemed to have a good time with no incidents!
Key point you cannot have events after the sun sets.

Ron Desantis would not tolerate this shit. Tate needs to do something about the judges in this state. If this doesn’t anger Tate he has to go. I don’t think Andy Gipson would tolerate this shit either. Unreal.

@10:44am, I’m pretty sure that area is in Kenny Stokes Ward, and if you just told him Chuck-way Antard Ladumbass is involved with that joint he would probably see to it that it’s shut down!

Seeing that all three of these shootings took place at schools in small towns, my guess is local resources to secure and protect the campuses were limited. Not that this would have made a difference but do all the schools have an enforced clear bag policy? I know our local school district (which includes one of the largest 7A schools) has a clear bag policy as well as plenty of law enforcement officers on campus during games. Maybe there needs to be a statewide task force consisting of law enforcement and school district administrators to develop a comprehensive plan to prevent something like these shootings from happening again.

Tens of thousands of Homecoming football games and activities going on throughout the country but leave it up to Mississippi, mainly the delta, to make national news for having routine shootings at them.

Former Frank Melton bodyguard Marcus Wright makes his premier appearance at Trollfest singing "I'm a Sweet Transvestite" from "The Rocky Horror Picture Show." Kamikaze will sing his new hit, “How I sold out to da Man.” Robbie Bell again performs: “Mamas, don't let your babies grow up to be Bells” and “Any friend of Ed Peters is a friend of mine”. After the show, Ms. Bell will autograph copies of her mug shot photos. In a salute to “Dancing with the Stars”, Ms. Bell and Hinds County District Attorney Robert Smith will dance the Wango Tango.

Wrestling returns, except this time it will be a Battle Royal with Othor Cain, Ben Allen, Kim Wade, Haley Fisackerly, Alan Lange, and “Big Cat” Donna Ladd all in the ring at the same time. The Battle Royal will be in a steel cage, no time limit, no referee, and the losers must leave town. Marshand Crisler will be the honorary referee (as it gives him a title without actually having to do anything).

Meet KIM Waaaaaade at the Entergy Tent. For five pesos, Kim will sell you a chance to win a deed to a crack house on Ridgeway Street stuffed in the Howard Industries pinata. Don't worry if the pinata is beaten to shreds, as Mr. Wade has Jose, Emmanuel, and Carlos, all illegal immigrants, available as replacements for the it. Upon leaving the Entergy tent, fig leaves will be available in case Entergy literally takes everything you have as part of its Trollfest ticket price adjustment charge.

Donna Ladd of The Jackson Free Press will give several classes on learning how to write. Smearing, writing without factchecking, and reporting only one side of a story will be covered. A donation to pay their taxes will be accepted and she will be signing copies of their former federal tax liens. Ms. Ladd will give a dramatic reading of her two award-winning essays (They received The Jackson Free Press "Best Of" awards.) "Why everything is always about me" and "Why I cover murders better than anyone else in Jackson".

In the spirit of helping those who are less fortunate, Trollfest '09 adopts a cause for which a portion of the proceeds and donations will be donated: Keeping Frank Melton in his home. The “Keep Frank Melton From Being Homeless” booth will sell chances for five dollars to pin the tail on the jackass. John Reeves has graciously volunteered to be the jackass for this honorable excursion into saving Frank's ass. What's an ass between two friends after all? If Mr. Reeves is unable to um, perform, Speaker Billy McCoy has also volunteered as when the word “jackass” was mentioned he immediately ran as fast as he could to sign up.

In order to help clean up the legal profession, Adam Kilgore of the Mississippi Bar will be giving away free, round-trip plane tickets to the North Pole where they keep their bar complaint forms (which are NOT available online). If you don't want to go to the North Pole, you can enjoy Brant Brantley's (of the Mississippi Commission on Judicial Performance) free guided tours of the quicksand field over by High Street where all complaints against judges disappear. If for some reason you are unable to control yourself, never fear; Judge Houston Patton will operate his jail where no lawyers are needed or allowed as you just sit there for minutes... hours.... months...years until he decides he is tired of you sitting in his jail. Do not think Judge Patton is a bad judge however as he plans to serve free Mad Dog 20/20 to all inmates.

Trollfest '09 is a pet-friendly event as well. Feel free to bring your dog with you and do not worry if your pet gets hungry, as employees of the Jackson Zoo will be on hand to provide some of their animals as food when it gets to be feeding time for your little loved one.

Relax at the Fox News Tent. Since there are only three blonde reporters in Jackson (being blonde is a requirement for working at Fox News), Megan and Kathryn from WAPT and Wendy from WLBT will be on loan to Fox. To gain admittance to the VIP section, bring either your Republican Party ID card or a Rebel Flag. Bringing both and a torn-up Obama yard sign will entitle you to free drinks served by Megan, Wendy, and Kathryn. Get your tickets now. Since this is an event for trolls, no ID is required. Just bring the hate. Bring the family, Trollfest '09 is for EVERYONE!!!

This is definitely a Beaver production.
