The Mississippi Department of Human Services issued the following statement.
MDHS Announces Temporary Pause in SNAP Benefits Due to Federal Shutdown
Jackson, MS - The Mississippi Department of Human Services (MDHS) announced today that due to the ongoing federal shutdown, the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) benefits for the month of November will not be issued.
This pause in benefits is a direct result of the federal shutdown and is not a state-level decision.
The United States Department of Agriculture's Food and Nutrition Service (FNS) has directed states not to transmit the EBT issuances files to EBT vendors until further notice. As a result, no new SNAP benefits will be issued for November unless federal guidance changes, however, previous benefits will remain accessible.
Existing clients are reminded to fulfill all requirements to maintain SNAP eligibility.
At this time, MDHS has not received confirmation from federal partners on when benefits will resume. MDHS will provide updates to beneficiaries and retailers as the situation develops. MDHS SNAP customer service representatives will continue to be available to answer technical questions but will not be able to provide information on the timing of benefit issuance.

Kingfish note: Louisiana's Governor found a way to fund food stamps in November. Governor Jeff Landry issued the following statement Friday:
Today, Governor Jeff Landry signed an Emergency Declaration for Louisiana to help fund SNAP benefits for the elderly, disabled, and children in our State who have been abandoned by Congressional Democrats. Emergency Declaration Attached. We should not allow our elderly, disabled, or children to go hungry because of the Washington, D.C. Democrats’ failure to reopen the federal government. Our social security net is supposed to help the most vulnerable, and we will try to accomplish this with today’s action."My Administration has created over 70,000 new job opportunities in Louisiana since I took office. Wages are on the rise, and our economic outlook has never looked better. This is how we move people from dependence to independence.
I urge those who are able bodied to continue to strive to get off SNAP and similar programs. Due to the Democrat’s political games these programs are not reliable.I encourage our citizens to seek the thousands of new job opportunities across our State, and free themselves from these social programs that the Left uses as a weaponization tool to win political points,” said Governor Landry.

What's this going to do to SuperTalk's ad revenue?
Does this mean we will have to get jobs?
That's sad. I hate that our Congress has allowed itself to be neutered by an aspiring autocrat.
Too many fatties out there, this will help America.
Is LA using their equivalent of our rainy day fund?
This could free up the supply of Ozempic-
Wonder when the smash and grabs in grocery store Walmart's, Sam's and Cosco's start.
Will this mean that vehicle traffic will significantly increase because the mooches/leeches/members of LBJ's "great society"/sponges/welfare queens/where's my free shit crowd/ will be driving around looking for a job?
Nah, probably not, unless they are out shoplifting.
Politicians are shameless low-lifes no matter the party. Far right Repubs thought nothing of shutting down the government if they could not get the cuts they wanted, but that was alright. Now that they have have the gavel the Dems do the same thing and they are outraged. Same ole shit.
just reading on social media that places like Walmart will shutter and do online shopping only for now. Like I said, social media, so expect some trouble.
The grocery shelves will be overflowing with Twinkies, DingDongs, and pastries.
Boo f'ing hoo.
Days of Hunger….chaos. When people start not eating they will do anything to survive.
Thank Democrats for the chaos. They chose not to pass the same bill they have the last 13 times.
No EBT means riots, burnings and total civil unrest. In a state that's basically 50% black (or more), this becomes real dangerous, real quick.
When you live on the government tit, you starve when the milk runs dry.
Never depend on the tit.
A lot of y'all in the comments acting as if you don't get SNAP or aren't related to someone who does. This effects us as a whole.
Yes, mainly because a powerful grocery store co op and a wholesaler has the ear of the governor.
Get a job, don't completely rely on others. Earn your money, you will value it more and it will make you feel better. Live within your means, you don't need a 100" tv.
Democrats are the ones that haven't passed a clean CR.
They will all belong in prison.
The cruelty is the point.
Cue the MSM stories of starving children and poor mothers not able to buy food. Hey, Churches, stop your fake “protests, prayer meetings, and marches”. If you didn’t allow the Government to usurp your responsibilities, the poor would not be in this situation. Providing for the poor is the Church’s responsibility, not the Government’s.

I hope everyone will read this and then take a step back and realize the govt will likely re-open right before the deadline or some other last minute performative bullshit like always happens. We ALWAYS get all hyped up for something and it never happens. Everything is a great big show. Nothing ever happens.
Let’s look at the facts:
42 million Americans are on SNAP benefits.
340 million Americans live in the U.S.
12.35 % of all Americans get free food each month.
How is that fair to the rest of Americans who are paying for this?
It’s not.
Cut them off completely.
Let the churches take care of them.
Mexico doesn’t have a SNAP program & not any Mexicans
are dying of starvation.
Also, the Democrats have VOTED down opening the Government 12 times. Maybe by midterm elections the government will re open.
Illegal aliens don’t deserve free healthcare in this country. So shut it down as far as I’m concerned. I’m tired of charity.
And just who might that be?
We pay for them there also. We just won't have to deal with them.
Does this surprise you in any way? Yet the dems want 1.5 billion for healthcare for illegals.
“We keep hearing about welfare abuse, but the real welfare kings are hiding in plain sight: industrial-scale farmers and grocery conglomerates. In 2024 alone, U.S. farmers received over $9.3 billion in subsidies—money that padded the bottom lines of the largest agribusinesses while small farmers continued to struggle. These subsidies, originally meant to stabilize food production, now disproportionately benefit the top 10% of farms, many of which are already highly profitable. Meanwhile, grocery chains quietly profit from artificially cheap commodity crops and billions in SNAP spending, all while lobbying for more. If we’re going to talk about handouts, let’s start with the ones wearing suits, not the ones using food stamps.”

Oh snap,
I trust the hearts of most Mississippians are not reflected above. We care for our neighbors and support local food banks. Use this as an opportunity to help a neighbor and pick up the bill of someone you notice is struggling at the grocery store.
Not a fan of the shenanigans pulled by the government. D or R, most all of them are selfish people out only for themselves to get what they want to remain in power.
There's never been a program without some abuse and never will be. Do I get irritated when I see obese people buying snacks and such with EBT? Yep. Can I do anything about it? Not really.
I predict levels of unrest all around this weekend if something isn't done.
Politico | Largest federal workers’ union calls for an immediate end to the shutdown
“Both political parties have made their point, and still there is no clear end in sight,” Everett Kelley, president of the AFGE, wrote. “It’s time to pass a clean continuing resolution and end this shutdown today. No half measures, and no gamesmanship.”
I see a lot of people who "identify" as Christians have entered the chat. Boy that judgment day is gonna be a shock for many and the answer to why they will start feelin toasty at the pearly gates can be found right here.
Congress funded itself through mid-November. I’m willing to bet that they will resolve the shutdown before they miss any of their own paychecks.
Actually 37% black in ms and the largest number of snap users are white ….all across the country
Freindly Advice: Don't grocery shop unless you know you can finish and load your car before dusk.
Daylight Savings time, which should be permanent, is fixing to expire.
OK Fish, I call bullshit on your claim "Kingfish note: Louisiana's Governor found a way to fund food stamps in November. Governor Jeff Landry issued the following statement Friday:"
Your Governor has not done anything but try to issue a press release claiming that he cares, that the Democrats in Congress are worthless, and while he is busy trying to hire a new coach for the Tigrettes, he is going to pretend that he is doing his real job.
This order only says that the Legislature should go appropriate some money to be used to pay for SNAP benefits. True, as noted in other comments, he fixed this so that the emergency declaration will expire by the time that Congress (both parties - with neither giving in while both do) actually passes another kick-the-can-down-the-road appropriations bill.
Just as the President can't spend money not appropriated by the legislative body, at least Gov Landry recognizes that and acts accordingly. He asks the legislature to appropriate some money for this purpose. (Trump, on the other hand claims he will spend money - tariff dollars today - to pay for some expenses only to be told by Congress "you can't do that"!)
Yes, Landry declared an emergency. But that didn't replace the money that is held up due to the so-called shutdown. He asked his legislature to do so. Nice try, but next time focus on the Governor's AD responsibilities.
