When Giuliani became mayor NYC, crime was horrible. His first edict was telling NYPD to issue a citation for everything from littering on up. His logic was showing criminals even the minor crimes would not be tolerated would reduce major crimes. It worked.

The solution isn't more arrests. The solution would be a business-friendly city and/or partnership that would allow someone to build and insure a race track where events like this can be held safely and cost effectively. Memphis and New Orleans have race tracks. Why can't Jackson?

Great point, 5:28. What NYC discovered was that a relatively small amount of people were committing the crimes... catch them committing small crimes that were previously overlooked and you prevent many serious ones.

Jackson has issues with it’s image because of fools like this. Putting others in harms way is utterly ridiculous and since the Mayor’s Office and JPD has avoided this issue. It’s my hope that the FHA would get involved. I-55 is paid for with federal dollars and since Lumumba turns a blind eye on these matters the feds appear our only option. I have called JPD on numerous occasions and they have failed to even notify the police.

I’m sure the parents of these clowns will object but I am tired of seeing these clowns running red lights with their long conveys, and the wreck less driving. MHP it would be great to start revoking driver’s licenses as well.

Jackson has enough issues. It’s time to someone bold enough to stop the shenanigans and protect the home and business owners in this city.

While it might provide a place for a few of these folks to play, it wouldn't solve their real purpose, which is to show off, prove that they can do whatever they want wherever they want to, and defy any laws that they choose. A race track wouldn't let them shut down an interstate - the cutting donuts and spinning tires was just the icing on the cake for them.

And, your 'someone' that is going to build said race track would expect to be paid. You think the folks that were on I-55 a couple of nights ago would be willing to pay admission to get in to watch - or the drivers in their Crown Vics would be willing to pay for this when they have the good ole interstate for free?

@5:42 hit the nail on the head. Why not come up with an alternative solution as opposed to more regulation and less freedom? Obviously they don't currently have the freedom to act as they do and should be reprimanded but as a public city that serves all of its people (or at least it should) why not provide them an outlet? Arguing that they will still do it unsafely and causing chaos adds nothing to the conversation. Making a law/regulation doesn't stop crime it just turns somebody doing something who wasn't a criminal into a criminal (justly or not). If your solution is just to drop the banhammer and start ticketing every minor infraction what are you hoping to accomplish? Negative reinforcement is way less affective than positive reinforcement.
