Update on Belhaven Robbery

JJ reported yesterday that the suspect in the robbery of a Belhaven woman at gunpoint was allowed to go home without posting bond:

Jackson Police have made an arrest in the robbery and assault that happened on North Jefferson Street last month.

Police have arrested and charged 16-year-old, Rameon Stewart, with aggravated assault and armed robbery of an individual after a female victim was assaulted and her purse taken at the Belhaven Place apartments.

Stewart was originally located and taken into custody at an undisclosed location, with assistance from Pearl Police, and was later transferred into the custody of Jackson Police.

Stewart is charged as an adult. Stewart has since appeared in court for his initial appearance. A judge released Stewart on his own recognizance and ankle monitoring was ordered.

Jackson Municipal Court Judge Taurean Buchanan ordered his release on his own recognizance although he did require Stewart to wear the ankle bracelet.

Remember, here is what the suspect "allegedly" did according to a JPD press release last month:

Officers responded to learn that a 49-year-old white female had been robbed.  The victim was attempting to go to her apartment when she was approached by male armed with a handgun. The suspect demanded her purse and assaulted the victim when she refused.
The suspect later fled on foot with the purse and is described as a black male wearing dark clothing and a back pack. The suspect’s image was captured on surveillance video.
The victim was transported to a local hospital to be treated for minor injuries.

Judge Buchanan was appointed to the bench in May.  He once clerked for Senior Circuit Judge Tomie Green.

No doubt, Cliff Johnson will tell us this is a good thing.  Meanwhile, a woman and her neighbors must live in fear of this guy returning to have some more teen fun.

This is a road well traveled. There is no fear of consequences among the ghetto boys. As long as brothers and sisters on the bench take care of their people justice will never come to Jackson. The punishments don't fit the crime. There is no fear of doing a crime and doing the time.

I cannot imagine what possible circumstances could merit letting him loose. He was willing to point a gun and do physical harm to take her purse. She was not a person to him, just a mark. This kid needs extreme intervention to turn his life around. Perhaps his family can afford to send him to some place where he can undergo a complete psychic change. Guess this was his first offense? At least the first one where his nonchalant picture was snapped.

Who "appointed" this Buchanan person to the bench, and what credentials does this person have?

Wasn't this considered a strong-armed robbery? She should have been carrying her own gun, had it in her hand while she was walking up to her house, pulled the trigger and disappointed this fine young citizen, left him to bleed out and not even bother calling the cops.

@10:34 none other than the radical new city developer,Mayor Antar Lumumba. While proclaiming all his proposed 'advances' for the city he is leading it to absolute anarchy with his dealing with the 'perception of crime'. His police chief failures, and all of his municipal judges are designed to insure that his nation'a brothers will be ok.

How long until the DOJ steps in to clean up Hinds counties court/judge problems???

I'm really getting sick of all these liberals being soft on crime.
People please vote conservative to save our streets from these black wolves at midterm! What have you got to lose?

This was NOT his first offense -- and there is a warrant for him in Rankin County/Pearl. From what I'm told, Judge Broome was trying to get an order to have him picked up on those charges but before he could get through to JPD, Buchanan let the guy walk.

Also, everyone should also know that JPD did not bother to let the victim know he was being released -- she only found out thanks to Maggie Wade at WLBT and her post on Facebook. This, despite the fact that the victim had been calling the detective in the case all day!

Most violent crime must be committed on foot these days, as the city's roadways are not suitable for a expedited escape from the clasp of the Jackson Justice Department. Who am I kidding? Criminals have all the time in the world for departure.

I think Bro. Hank Williams, Jr., described the city of Jackson perfectly in his 1981 country ballad classic "A Country Boy Can Survive."

The same is with what's happening with Greg Snowden in Lauderdale county sweep it under the carpet.

The Judge should be liable if he kills someone

Derrell
So, you're comparing a DUI refusal with aggravated assault and armed robbery?
While you may have been attempting to be funny, what you did was show just exactly how much of an idiotic asshole you are.

People should be released on recognizance for most misdemeanors and nonviolent felonies. If they're charged with something more serious, there's clear evidence that the defendant in question was involved, and they are a real threat to the community, they should be held pretrial. It ain't that hard, but apparently some judges can't figure it out.

If you are in Jnx and are not carrying a defensive handgun of decent caliber with self-defense ammo designed for as reliable a one shot kill as they can make it, you are a FOOL.

Anonymous said...

What's a 'defensive handgun'?

Anonymous said...

Any handgun is a defensive weapon. So is a sawed off shotgun.

Kingfish said...

It's more about placement than caliber. If you can't handle the recoil, then the caliber doesn't do you much good.

Anonymous said...

I agree with you up to a point Kingfish. Beyond that, two to the chest and one to the head insures that the scumbag is dead, dead, dead!

In before "But muh .40 cal cuz FBI..." lol

You're absolutely correct about placement over caliber, KF.

TERRIBLE that this guy seemingly was just given a slap on the wrist for his crime. WHY can’t Jackson pull it together? We need a great capital city.
And did anything become the shooting in Belhaven of the 19 year old man a couple of weeks ago?

A .25 semi-auto with a six clip will suffice just as well as an eight pound .357 if you know what you're doing.

I agree with you about Lauderdale County. I was born and raised there and now I live in Fondren. I think its a sad state that lauderdale county has turned into a nightmare with the crime and criminal behavior like they've never faced before. I can't place where it went wrong or how it had such a sweeping change of these terrible leaders in charge of it continued to get re elected there. they need a major overhaul in that county. meridian has suffered a large population loss as well as a large tax base flight.

"As long as brothers and sisters on the bench take care of their people . . ."

"[Lumumba's failures] are designed to insure that his nation's brothers will be ok"

"People please vote conservative to save our streets from these black wolves at midterm!"

Wow, you people don't even try to hide it anymore. You may call your written opinions realistic, but all the rest of the world sees is a bunch of ignorant racists who deserve to be disregarded and ignored.

Thanks for being so predictable.

I am a staunch supporter of self defense but In Jackson as a white person it would scare the hell out of me getting dragged before a grand jury for protecting myself with the racist in this town.

Anonymous said...

Kingfish, is there any update on the murder that recently happened in Belhaven? Where the young man was found in the parking area of the apartment complex?

@ 10/4 1:00pm

Glad someone else gets it. Judged by 12 Vs carried by 6 still applies, but I'm more inclined to just not be there if I can help it at all.

If I'm not going to a state government building or a hospital, I try not to be in Jackson. Bad things can and do happen everywhere, but I'm not statistically challenged.

10:04am is a large part of what's wrong today. People who speak the truth are labeled racists, misogynists or worse. They cannot accept the fact that stereotypes exist for a reason and that reason is people in particular groups perpetuate certain behavior over and over and over again. Yes, white souther men have repeated racist behavior over and over again and so they bear that stereotype and work to reverse it.

Other groups hide behind the term racism and continue the behavior that gained them that stereotype.

Excuses and bullsh!t abound!

Anyone who refers to a "magazine" as a "clip," knows little to nothing about firearms.

"Anyone who refers to a "magazine" as a "clip," knows little to nothing about firearms. October 4, 2018 at 6:34 PM"

"A clip is a device that is used to store multiple rounds of ammunition together as a unit, ready for insertion into the magazine or cylinder of a firearm. This speeds up the process of loading and reloading the firearm as several rounds can be loaded at once, rather than one round being loaded at a time. Several different types of clips exist, most of which are made of inexpensive stamped sheet metal and are intended to be disposable, though they are often re-used."

Anyone who uses wikipedia as a source of reliable and accurate firearms knowledge, well, bless their heart.

Yes, clips exist, but they are rare.

Trollfest '09

Trollfest '07 was such a success that Jackson Jambalaya will once again host Trollfest '09. Catch this great event which will leave NE Jackson & Fondren in flames. Othor Cain and his band, The Black Power Structure headline the night while Sonjay Poontang returns for an encore performance. Former Frank Melton bodyguard Marcus Wright makes his premier appearance at Trollfest singing "I'm a Sweet Transvestite" from "The Rocky Horror Picture Show." Kamikaze will sing his new hit, “How I sold out to da Man.” Robbie Bell again performs: “Mamas, don't let your babies grow up to be Bells” and “Any friend of Ed Peters is a friend of mine”. After the show, Ms. Bell will autograph copies of her mug shot photos. In a salute to “Dancing with the Stars”, Ms. Bell and Hinds County District Attorney Robert Smith will dance the Wango Tango.

Wrestling returns, except this time it will be a Battle Royal with Othor Cain, Ben Allen, Kim Wade, Haley Fisackerly, Alan Lange, and “Big Cat” Donna Ladd all in the ring at the same time. The Battle Royal will be in a steel cage, no time limit, no referee, and the losers must leave town. Marshand Crisler will be the honorary referee (as it gives him a title without actually having to do anything).

Meet KIM Waaaaaade at the Entergy Tent. For five pesos, Kim will sell you a chance to win a deed to a crack house on Ridgeway Street stuffed in the Howard Industries pinata. Don't worry if the pinata is beaten to shreds, as Mr. Wade has Jose, Emmanuel, and Carlos, all illegal immigrants, available as replacements for the it. Upon leaving the Entergy tent, fig leaves will be available in case Entergy literally takes everything you have as part of its Trollfest ticket price adjustment charge.

Donna Ladd of The Jackson Free Press will give several classes on learning how to write. Smearing, writing without factchecking, and reporting only one side of a story will be covered. A donation to pay their taxes will be accepted and she will be signing copies of their former federal tax liens. Ms. Ladd will give a dramatic reading of her two award-winning essays (They received The Jackson Free Press "Best Of" awards.) "Why everything is always about me" and "Why I cover murders better than anyone else in Jackson".

In the spirit of helping those who are less fortunate, Trollfest '09 adopts a cause for which a portion of the proceeds and donations will be donated: Keeping Frank Melton in his home. The “Keep Frank Melton From Being Homeless” booth will sell chances for five dollars to pin the tail on the jackass. John Reeves has graciously volunteered to be the jackass for this honorable excursion into saving Frank's ass. What's an ass between two friends after all? If Mr. Reeves is unable to um, perform, Speaker Billy McCoy has also volunteered as when the word “jackass” was mentioned he immediately ran as fast as he could to sign up.

In order to help clean up the legal profession, Adam Kilgore of the Mississippi Bar will be giving away free, round-trip plane tickets to the North Pole where they keep their bar complaint forms (which are NOT available online). If you don't want to go to the North Pole, you can enjoy Brant Brantley's (of the Mississippi Commission on Judicial Performance) free guided tours of the quicksand field over by High Street where all complaints against judges disappear. If for some reason you are unable to control yourself, never fear; Judge Houston Patton will operate his jail where no lawyers are needed or allowed as you just sit there for minutes... hours.... months...years until he decides he is tired of you sitting in his jail. Do not think Judge Patton is a bad judge however as he plans to serve free Mad Dog 20/20 to all inmates.

Trollfest '09 is a pet-friendly event as well. Feel free to bring your dog with you and do not worry if your pet gets hungry, as employees of the Jackson Zoo will be on hand to provide some of their animals as food when it gets to be feeding time for your little loved one.

Relax at the Fox News Tent. Since there are only three blonde reporters in Jackson (being blonde is a requirement for working at Fox News), Megan and Kathryn from WAPT and Wendy from WLBT will be on loan to Fox. To gain admittance to the VIP section, bring either your Republican Party ID card or a Rebel Flag. Bringing both and a torn-up Obama yard sign will entitle you to free drinks served by Megan, Wendy, and Kathryn. Get your tickets now. Since this is an event for trolls, no ID is required. Just bring the hate. Bring the family, Trollfest '09 is for EVERYONE!!!

This is definitely a Beaver production.
