Do as I say......

One of the plaintiff's in the Southern Poverty Law Center's lawsuit withdrew from the case last month.  It doesn't take a genius to figure out why he did so.

SPLC attempted to shut down Mississippi's charter schools through a lawsuit filed in Hinds County Chancery Court.  It claimed the funding for charter schools was unconstitutional and illegal. The nominal plaintiffs are  John Sewell, Kimberly Sewell, Evelyn Araujo, Charles Araujo, Cassandra Overton-Welchlin, Lutaya Stewart, and Arthur Brown.  The suit named Governor Phil Bryant, the Mississippi Department of Education, and the Jackson Public School District as defendants. Earlier post about complaint. SPLC Attorneys Jody Owens and Will Bardwell represented the plaintiffs.

However, Chancellor Dewayne Thomas ruled against SPLC and the plaintiffs last February.  The plaintiffs appealed to the Mississippi Supreme Court.  The Sewells asked the court for permission to withdraw from the lawsuit.

It turns out the Sewells are no longer parents of children who attend Jackson public schools.  Let's just say that they attend a local private school that just happened to be ranked among the top private schools in America.  Kind of hard to defend "public education" when one uses the private school system but then again, some biffs and buffies are more equal than others.

Can’t really blame them for enrolling their kids there.

Certainly don't blame them for enrolling their kids at St A's. But - I can blame them for attempting to stop poor, black kids from the inner city that can't afford to choose their school, can't even go across town to the 'choice' school at McWillie, but are stuck in the crappy JPS school because of their zip codes.

Yes, they made a good choice for their kids. But their arrogance in being a plantiff trying to stop those less fortunate from having a chance to get a good education (a public education, but not at the traditional school) is certainly something they should wear with shame. Just like the SPLC that claims to be trying to look after the poor, i.e. their name, but really want to try to protect the education bureaucracy.

Yes, I can blame them for that.

How does a kid enroll at McWillie? Is it a lottery system?

I remember seeing the local news coverage with 100 white families protesting about 400 single black women that supported and wanted there child to remain in charter schools. The private school white families opposed school choice while yet having it. Fiona Ladd was one of the cheerleaders for the whites opposing blacks with school choice. St Andrews school parents are still riding around with Fondren stickers and the 42 sticker on there volos and Audi cars opposed to an idea that blacks can have choice of school.

On a related note, groups like the ACLU (suing the MadCo Sheriff) and Southern Poverty Law center should be listed as radical, racist, hate-groups....but wait, THEY are the ones who maintain and publish those lists.

Anyone who knows or has worked with Evelyn Araujo is confident that she is nuttier than a fruitcake. She sent her kids to the Montessori School in Jackson.

How does a kid enroll at McWillie? Ask all your white, NE Jxn liberal democrats. They seem to have a good track record of this - Dorsey C., Will B. , David B., and on, and on, and on. Question is, what do they do when they finish there and have to send their kids to a JPS middle school, or worse yet, high school.

They do like this couple and bail out of their duty to the system - if they are decent parents, and more worried about getting their kids an education rather than making their friends happy in defense of the education bureaucracy.

I'm with 4:36. No groups spews more hatred than the SPLC and the ACLU.

Hey, its worth a try to get the govt to pay for your kids to attend private school. But, don’t get caught.

5:14 PREACH!! I can't tell you how often this happens. #Woke

St. Andrews tuition is $17,000 per year. That's serious coin. Ole Miss is cheaper.

This adds to the list of 100s of reasons why the government should not be in the business of education in any jurisdiction.

Yes,
Evelyn is a total fraud!!! Also, Fondren resident here... my neighbors have 3 kids at st. Andrews as many families in Fondren do. That's not the problem... the problem is they have a initiative 42 sign in yard and want to support local school while forcing poor kids from other areas of lower income neighborhoods to be forced to attend JPS... I guess it's only for them not the poor. Hey, they have a resist sticker on the hybrid Toyota and a Dartmouth sticker next to the UMMC physicians decal on vehicle. Must be nice to be superior... talk about helping the poor at local cocktail parties with other private school parents. Equality is the name they use to promote the white guilt each of them have... it's laughable

JPS runs a dual but unequal school system in order to
keep upper middle class parent support. The children of upper
middle class families attend "advanced" classes and are segregated
from having to mix with other students.

Who are these 'upper middle class JPS families'?

Anonymous said...

I talked to a dad who looked at St. Andrews for this year. He said SA is now $18,500 a year, plus various other fees and expenses.

Upper middle class families live in the burbs for free schools. All that remains in Jackson proper are wealthy families that send multiple kids to private schools or dirt poor families that can't afford gas

1:29 - Your post fails to answer the question. The claim was made that there are children of upper middle class parents in the JPS system. See below and at 9:53.

"The children of upper middle class families attend "advanced" classes and are segregated from having to mix with other students."

Please provide evidence that JPS has scholars who are children of upper middle class families.

406 - go to Murrah and check out the (small and pale) AP classes. Has been the case for decades - including the kids of many prominent Dems that depended on the public school lobby for support. Same situation - without AP classes obviously exists at McWillie. You need names, some were referenced above, and if you aren't say enough to recognize them as noted (Dorsey C., Will B, David B.) and need someone to spell out their last names, they wouldn't mean much to you anyway.

SPLC is the sorriest group of lawyers anywhere having the audacity to label conservative Christian groups like Alliance Defending Freedom as a hate group.

My parents sent me to a private school the year desegregation was implemented in the schools of our town (not Jackson). When nothing very terrible happened (race riots, rapes, etc.), they allowed me to return to the public high school the next year. But you can be sure they checked out the curriculum, and ascertained that enough AP classes were available. So, yes, I essentially had a private education within the public system—-physics, calculus, four years of a foreign language. Yes, my classes and teachers were almost 100% white. Not because blacks were not allowed, but because everyone was allowed to choose his or her own curriculum when we met with the guidance counselors, and blacks generally chose the easier, and often remedial, courses. Fact. Now, lefties would aver (scream, rant, rather) that “ more should have been done” to force a racial balance in these “hard” courses. But I’m glad they didn’t, because—well,, face it, that would have slowed the advanced classes down dramatically. And with the classes dumbed down, most of my peers’ parents would have pulled out of the system. I know mine would have.

My large school also had an enormous population of poor ordinary white rednecks, as well, and they didn’t take the advmced classes, either. So it isn’t always about racism...you either have the chops to cut it in a difficult class, or you don’t. And no responsible parent is going to allow their student who CAN cut it to be underserved, for the ephemeral notion of the “greater good” of “equal opportunity.”

Do you think parents, some far from wealthy, ENJOY paying upwards of $18,000 per annum for a St. Andrew’s education? They do it because they don’t want their children to have the crummy “education” the public schools offer. Why is this surprising to anyone?

Whose “fault” is it that the schools are in this deplorable state? Who cares? It is what it is, for whatever historical reason, and conscientous parents do whatever it takes to get their kids the best they can manage.

What does Initiative 42 have to do with Private schools (and rich , white "liberals" not wanting poor black families to have school choice)? It was about forcing the legislature to fully fund public schools according to MAEP. The thought being that full funding would help provide better schools for more students around the state.

A Public Charter represents an alternative, but it is far from "school choice" for poor families, especially the choice rich white folks have with private schools. It wouldn't matter if the government allowed vouchers; JA, JP, MRA aren't allowing a critical mass of black students with a bunch of vouchers in their schools. Those white families pay a premium for a segregated education if not advanced academics.

TSPLC has been shown to be just a shell company taking in grants and donations, moving most offshore and spending little...I dont think anyone has seen Morris Dees in person in years, so they are just collecting his SS check and using his name to keep money rolling end...

Mississippi Today has this story:

https://mississippitoday.org/2018/09/13/fifteen-black-moms-to-receive-1000-monthly-in-basic-income-experiment/

Now, say what you will, but this line in the story leaped out at me:

"With some disposable income, one woman told Nyandoro she would have the money her daughter needs to enter a science competition."

Assuming there is at least some truth to it and I see no reason to doubt it happens even if this particular woman is not credible, ARE YOU FUCKING KIDDING ME?! A Mississippi kid of whatever color wants to enter a science competition and the problem is the entry fee? The sad thing is that it is almost certainly true. Why would there be any barrier to any kid competing in an any legit academic competition, especially a STEM competition *** IN MISSISSIPPI ***? Jim Barksdale, Larry Page, Phil Bryant, Tatertot, and last but not least, JPS, are you listening?

SPLC is not a shell company. It continues to do great work for people who need and deserve quality legal representation.

Trollfest '09

Trollfest '07 was such a success that Jackson Jambalaya will once again host Trollfest '09. Catch this great event which will leave NE Jackson & Fondren in flames. Othor Cain and his band, The Black Power Structure headline the night while Sonjay Poontang returns for an encore performance. Former Frank Melton bodyguard Marcus Wright makes his premier appearance at Trollfest singing "I'm a Sweet Transvestite" from "The Rocky Horror Picture Show." Kamikaze will sing his new hit, “How I sold out to da Man.” Robbie Bell again performs: “Mamas, don't let your babies grow up to be Bells” and “Any friend of Ed Peters is a friend of mine”. After the show, Ms. Bell will autograph copies of her mug shot photos. In a salute to “Dancing with the Stars”, Ms. Bell and Hinds County District Attorney Robert Smith will dance the Wango Tango.

Wrestling returns, except this time it will be a Battle Royal with Othor Cain, Ben Allen, Kim Wade, Haley Fisackerly, Alan Lange, and “Big Cat” Donna Ladd all in the ring at the same time. The Battle Royal will be in a steel cage, no time limit, no referee, and the losers must leave town. Marshand Crisler will be the honorary referee (as it gives him a title without actually having to do anything).

Meet KIM Waaaaaade at the Entergy Tent. For five pesos, Kim will sell you a chance to win a deed to a crack house on Ridgeway Street stuffed in the Howard Industries pinata. Don't worry if the pinata is beaten to shreds, as Mr. Wade has Jose, Emmanuel, and Carlos, all illegal immigrants, available as replacements for the it. Upon leaving the Entergy tent, fig leaves will be available in case Entergy literally takes everything you have as part of its Trollfest ticket price adjustment charge.

Donna Ladd of The Jackson Free Press will give several classes on learning how to write. Smearing, writing without factchecking, and reporting only one side of a story will be covered. A donation to pay their taxes will be accepted and she will be signing copies of their former federal tax liens. Ms. Ladd will give a dramatic reading of her two award-winning essays (They received The Jackson Free Press "Best Of" awards.) "Why everything is always about me" and "Why I cover murders better than anyone else in Jackson".

In the spirit of helping those who are less fortunate, Trollfest '09 adopts a cause for which a portion of the proceeds and donations will be donated: Keeping Frank Melton in his home. The “Keep Frank Melton From Being Homeless” booth will sell chances for five dollars to pin the tail on the jackass. John Reeves has graciously volunteered to be the jackass for this honorable excursion into saving Frank's ass. What's an ass between two friends after all? If Mr. Reeves is unable to um, perform, Speaker Billy McCoy has also volunteered as when the word “jackass” was mentioned he immediately ran as fast as he could to sign up.

In order to help clean up the legal profession, Adam Kilgore of the Mississippi Bar will be giving away free, round-trip plane tickets to the North Pole where they keep their bar complaint forms (which are NOT available online). If you don't want to go to the North Pole, you can enjoy Brant Brantley's (of the Mississippi Commission on Judicial Performance) free guided tours of the quicksand field over by High Street where all complaints against judges disappear. If for some reason you are unable to control yourself, never fear; Judge Houston Patton will operate his jail where no lawyers are needed or allowed as you just sit there for minutes... hours.... months...years until he decides he is tired of you sitting in his jail. Do not think Judge Patton is a bad judge however as he plans to serve free Mad Dog 20/20 to all inmates.

Trollfest '09 is a pet-friendly event as well. Feel free to bring your dog with you and do not worry if your pet gets hungry, as employees of the Jackson Zoo will be on hand to provide some of their animals as food when it gets to be feeding time for your little loved one.

Relax at the Fox News Tent. Since there are only three blonde reporters in Jackson (being blonde is a requirement for working at Fox News), Megan and Kathryn from WAPT and Wendy from WLBT will be on loan to Fox. To gain admittance to the VIP section, bring either your Republican Party ID card or a Rebel Flag. Bringing both and a torn-up Obama yard sign will entitle you to free drinks served by Megan, Wendy, and Kathryn. Get your tickets now. Since this is an event for trolls, no ID is required. Just bring the hate. Bring the family, Trollfest '09 is for EVERYONE!!!

This is definitely a Beaver production.
