The Mississippi Department of Transportation stopped the flow of federal road money to Jackson since it has not completed its audit. MDOT sent this letter to Jackson .
Over a year to hire a permanent police chief. Open seats on School Board and Zoo Board. Is a pattern developing

Junior is in over his head. No matter how much the JFP and other local media try to prop up this administration, the fact is they are clueless on running this City properly.
They don't think any rules apply to them.
Good on MDOT for this.
Oh the incompetence. I had high hopes for Baby Choke but am no longer a fan. Can we please just get the basics of city management down first before trying to transform Jackson into a “radical” city.
This could be really really ugly for Baby Chock if he can't get an audit - a clean one - and quickly. Claims to be blaming it on having "changed auditors" and it just takes longer; be interesting to see how this line holds up over the coming weeks.
More than $30 million of federal/MDOT tied up due to this fiasco - plus some contracts that are not yet underway for construction. If no audit, then no reimbursement. Will trump all the screwups of the past administration (which may in fact be part of the problem with getting a clean audit today - we'll see) once they have contractors knocking on the door for payment and no more dollars to cover their checks.
Jackson is in a deep state of lost.
I live in NE Jackson and I hate the fact these city leaders feel like the rules don't apply to them. Wait until Monday they will be crying racism. So sick of this $#it. I hope MDOT doesn't give I penny more. Pissed me off. Take care of the simple shit mayor. You will do down as a bad mayor like Ditto and Johnson. Ditto was worse though.
Stokes for Mayor!
@ 4:38
"get the basics of city management down". Uh in case you haven't noticed this is BASICALLY the way most AA Democratic mayors "manage" their respective towns. Jackson's future is set. This script has been repeated many times in many places and it always has the same ending.
This is Federal and will affect all funding soon. Having an annual audit on time is so basic and not hard. Yes this mess did start with the first really bad Mayor of Ditto.
Watching Jackson fall apart is so sad and embarrassing. I would really like to find a ray of hope. Is there a single official or employee of the City of Jackson, elected or otherwise, that is competent to do their job?
Please share your positive experiences. It would definitely help many people feel positive.
MDOT operates like a full time Chinese fire drill and calls the city of Jackson incompetent.
OOHH TAY!!!
Y'all lay off Baby Choke! Look what he and Feel have done for the schoo......oh yeah. N'ermind.
damn right it is racism 5:05pm. 3 old white men from mississippi run mdot. enough said. they just trying to destroy jackson and sabotage our mayor. stay strong and fight on.
@10:51
Ah the old race card. The Dems's security blanket. What took you so long fam ?
The mayor needs to persuade Tate to move to Eastover. Then POOF, magically Jackson can get anything they want. Including taxpayer funded private drives. Problem solved.
@10:51,
Your a total and complete dumba$$... I also live in the city of Jackson and our area pays over 60% of the taxes alone in the city of Jackson. Shut your damn trap about racism. People are so sick of hearing it. It's written in plain English about the audit. Baby Chokwe didn't follow through. MDOT will hold the city accountable and should. This is about green not black and white... oh yes please in your wise words fight on. Shit. There is nothing to fight. Who are you fighting? Rules are rules and Jackson failed to provide measurements needed. Your the problem with the city. Fight on!!! I knew as soon as I read your comment that you lack basic knowledge of how things work and want to blame others. Not very accomplished are you
“MNOT”? Is that supposed to be a play on words (well, acronym) or are we not proofreading again? * sigh*...
I know everyone wants to jump on Jackson about this, but this isn't really that uncommon. Many entities have thier audits performed by their auditors in the spring. If the audit takes any amount of time to prepare, then this deadline will be missed. I'd bet that 35% of cities in MS get this letter at some point or another over the years if they get federal funding through FHWA.
No 1051 it's one white woman - you obviously know little or nothing about the MDOT organization.. The three white men (commissioners) have no authority in the day to day operations of the department. And the one white woman was only doing what she was required by federal law to do after Baby Chock failed to do what federal law requires all cities - even the new radical ones - to do.
This is great. The smaller amount of my tax dollars that go to this dump the better. Let the City continue to rot.
10:51 You were certainly able to get some of these nitwits to focus on the "race card" which only you and a few other white agitators play on behalf of phony black citizens you materialize in your post. Thanks but black people do not defend this or past administration's incompetence!
Jackson was able to get its June bills turned into MNOT. MNOT transferred those federal funds to Jackson before the suspension. The suspension will affect the July bills.
Actually, whites are the minority in Jackson now. So, the race card has changed.
Current NEJ-er signing out and headed to greener pastures! Jackson is *generally* a *nice* place, and there are some *good* things going on in the city limits and metro area as a whole--but man. It's time to get out. Bond brokers will tell you to RUN from Jackson munis. Streets and utilities are...well, obviously horrible. Management is abysmal. Overly expensive private schools are the only legit option for a secure and suitable K-12 education. I've said it on this blog before- SHAME on Jackson for refusing to elect Jonathan Lee as Mayor. Think what could have been- but we have been under a tag-team duo who are more concerned about radical ideals than racial reconciliation, community revitalization (starting in the homes) and economic progress. CL article from James Meredith saying he is working to reinstate morals and values in communities is spot on...just 30 years too late. To quote Uncle Willie "turn off the lights. the party's over." Adios and vaya con Dios!
chap 9 filing around the corner. then fed emergency declaration and city receivership. and finally jackson will be on the mend
Notice how the worse it gets for the city of Jackson, the more groomed Baby Chokwe's beard seems to appear.
Kinda sheds new light on Dr. Hatcher's *resignation* as Finance Director.
