It looks like the effort to push the JPS bond issue took off last weekend. One Voice sent out this message last week:
Got to have a t-shirt of course. Of course, the shirt looks like it was designed by bureaucrats.
JJ would love to tell how much money the Commission is spending on this effort but the Commission refuses to provide any records as it claims it is exempt from any public records laws. It is funded by the Kellog Foundation but Governor Phil Bryant and Jackson Mayor Chokwe Antar Lumumba appointed two-thirds of the Commission members. Welcome to rule under Claiborne Barksdale. Shut up, don't ask any questions, do what we tell you to do, and oh yes, give us all of your money. Why? Because we said so.
Stay tuned.

Per Craiglist ads, we do know that the door-to-door canvassers are being paid $14/hour. That's very generous for an entry level job with no education requirement.
Short term work should pay well.
KF, normally I'm only angry with your various commenters, but this time I'm disappointed with you.
If you used blog software that actually allowed us to search old posts, we would find comments from you a couple years ago saying essentially that JPS was stupid for not working with Barksdale. I believe he had offered a chunk of money and time and had gotten blown off by JPS.
Now here you are saying Barksdale is a domineering bully because he doesn't work nice with you.
You need to pick a side of an argument and stick with it.
I sure wish the sorry a$$ clarion ledger would report some on this. On 2nd thought most people that will vote in favor of this don't read the news.
$14 per hour sounds high, but these people are the face of the movement. They will need to be able to coherently argue with strangers, over the points about the need for the bond issue. They will need to study and memorize the talking points, they will need to remain friendly and not argumentative.
This shouldn't be a job given to people that can't man a McDonald's.
@9:24.....or think for themselves. They just keep lining up for those FREE Dim-O-Krat organic meals, that everyone else calls a "sh*t" sandwich
PittPanther = Binary thinker
9:44am beat me to it.
I can hate the man but like the deeds. I can hate the deeds but like the man. I can also not give a whit about the man and like some deeds and dislike others.
That's what life is.
It's simply lazy to view everything through zero-sum glasses.
Such conviction, stuff I support costs money to canvas and hold signs. Just more walking around money.
$14.00US per hour for whaaaat? dang....
You can search old posts by inputting keywords at the top right of the page where it says.......wait for it......SEARCH this website.
The people they will hire got fired at Micky Ds.
$14 is a pittance, when you think of their task.
Going door-to-door in the hood, convincing members of the parasite class to go to the polls and confiscate money from actual property owners.
It's hard work.
I thought $15 per hour was the new threshold dollar-per-hour pay minimum sought by groups like these. Isn't this a blatant case of "job-shaming?"
Oh, and based on the grammar used, it must be assumed the person who sent out the canvassing call-to-arms was, too, a product of JPS.
I assume the training location being at "Garrett Enterprises" is our old friend Socrates Garrett.
The piss is running down his leg at the thought of getting his nasty hands on some of this money.
Since when is $14/hr generous? That’s less than $30k a year. By the time you pay for Trumpcare, you’re only left with half that. I guess some of you republicans still think anything above slave labor is unacceptable.
Googling the address it looks like its a hippy commune inside the gates of the medical mall. Gardens and greehouses, and a 5' disc...to till what I have no clue.
It took less than 2 1/2 hours to link this local issue to national politics and Trump. Is that a record?
"Trumpcare"? What in the hell is that? Medicare, Medicaid , Blue Cross, Obamacare, United Healthcare, slackers with no insurance....but Trumpcare?
14 bucks an hour for this Rankin County white fellow to endure the training day, get a free T shirt and hat, then "canvass" solo in select NE Jackson neighborhoods to persuade people to vote AGAINST the bond measure....that would be one less real "canvasser" on the streets, I'd probably make all kinds of new friends, get invited into homes for a beer or fine liquor, hell, sampling a casserole might be in the works. Where do I sign up?!
I'm a JPS employee and I'm not for what the JPS higher ups are proposing.
Do people not remember the Clarion-Ledger article from a few years ago that mentioned the survey JPS employees took that essentially stated that their work environment and higher up bosses sucked (like 1 of 20 legit Clarion-Ledger articles in the last few years)?
BTW I took that survey in the beginning of the year (I don't know about employees at other JPS schools) ie when the students are less crazy ie before they realize that the administrators aren't going to give them legit consequences for their bs. I can imagine just how telling the survey results would have been if they were done further into the school year.
