Welcome to Matchbook Monday. Several matchbooks of Jackson's past are
posted below. Feel free to add your stories or any information about
them in the comments section. Enjoy these blasts from the past. Readers
can email copies of any old matchbooks they might have to

First up is Fisherman's Wharf. It was a long-time favorite on Highway 80.
Next up is the Ramada Coliseum.
A reader submitted this one. Scrooges is still here even though this matchbook is over 25 years old.
We wrap up our step back in time by traveling to Vicksburg and stopping at the old Southern Tea Room.

The Coliseum Ramada wasn't the one with the Emporium, was it? I remember radio commercials for the Emporium back in the mid-80s. One was set to the tune of Eddie Murphy's "Party All the Time."
3 out of 4 ain't bad. Per previous posts that included Johnny's on Hwy 80, Fisherman's Warf moved into that location on 80 and Valley. Wonderful seafood. First (only?) place in town that didn't even offer a fried version of anything. There was no deep fryer on the premises. Coliseum Ramada was a showplace in the 80's and 90's, though I guess it was built in the 70's and went through the 79 flood. Scrooge's was one of Al Roberts and Bill Latham's early ventures. Forgot there were locations other than Jackson. Apparently Natchez location is still open, but not Germantown. Bill and Al sold at least the Jackson location, and probably others, years ago. I still frequent the relocated Jackson restaurant for lunch. Old Southern Tea Room and Captain's Quarters someone else will have to fill in. Think I went to OSTR once as a kid with my parents, but that's it.
Remember when Scrooge's was in that building with The Rogue and they had that insane spiral staircase that waiters had to use to bring trays of food from the kitchen to the upstairs dining?
I understand that it wasn't uncommon for a table's entire order to be dropped by a waiter trying to negotiate that ridiculous thing!
Old Southern Tea Room was in Vicksburg across from The Vicksburg Apartments and above Waring Oil gas station. I used to go to OSTR every Sunday after church until it burned to the ground in the early 1980s. One of the cooks who was left without a job wound up working for my family for many years. Sweet lady.
Anyone have one for the Coachlight?
Loved Scrooge's. Was one of the 2 favorite places my girlfriend at the time and I used to go on Fri or Sat nights. The other was just around the corner, TGI Friday's. We were just a couple of 17 yr olds, but the staff was always so good to us every time we were there. They had a drink called a Shandy, which was nothing more than draft beer & lemonade mixed together, but my girlfriend loved it. Sometimes it's hard to believe that was 40 years ago, but such very good memories. Thanks for this, KF. Keep 'em coming!
THE ROACH LIGHT ! ! ! !
I like these posts KF. Keep it up.
