Former Hinds County Assistant District Attorney Ivon Johnson will plead guilty to a charge of conspiracy. Federal prosecutors filed a bill of information last week that charged Johnson accepted bribes in exchange for reducing bonds for criminal defendants. A notice filed in his case states:
Entry of guilty plea hearing set for 7/28/2016 09:30 AM in Courtroom 4A (Jackson) before District Judge Tom S. Lee (LWE)
JJ reported last week:
beginning shortly after June, 2013 and continuing until on or about February of 2016, the exact dates being unknown in the Southern District of Mississippi, the defendant, IVON JOHNSON, an agent of Hinds County, Mississippi, and others, did combine, conspire, confederate, and agree together to commit an offense or offenses against the United States, to wit: Title 18, United States Code, Section 666(a)(l)(B), that is, did corruptly solicit, demand, accept and agree to accept a thing of value from a person, intending to be influenced and rewarded in connection with a transaction and series of transactions of Hinds County District Attorney's Office involving $5,000 or more...
The primary object of the conspiracy was to obtain money in exchange for favorable treatment in court proceedings in Hinds County, Mississippi..
1. IVON JOHNSON accepted money from a co-conspirator, totaling at least $15,000 throughout the conspiracy, on behalf of criminal defendants, including S.B., an individual charged with a felony offense in Hinds County, Mississippi.
2. On or about October 20, 2014, IVON JOHNSON, as an agent of the Hinds County District's Attorney Office, moved to reduce the bond amount of S.B. from approximately $15,000 to approximately $3,500 in exchange for approximately $500. Earlier post.
This is getting interesting. Stay tuned.

Wonderful job F.B.I.Robert Shuler Smith Hinds County District Attorney days are numbered. Countdown 10,9,8,7,6 etc.
He will tell all as part of the plea deal; RSS's eyebrows just went up a notch.
When he waived indictment, everyone with a brain knew he flipped on someone.
IVON JOHNSON accepted money from a co-conspirator- How can that be RSS you bunch of knuckleheads?
5:50. Are you really that stupid? There is way more to this.
Johnson has flipped by naming defense attorneys involved. Sources saying johnson acted alone as far as hinds county da's office is concerned. The co-conspirator is the person (defense attorney or defendant) who bribed him.
Right 9:35. Yawn.
@5:50 The knuckle heads are the ilk of Jackson that give this clown a pass. You deserve him.
@9:35 Ok, Robert.
@9:35. Lol.
I am sure the FBI went through all the trouble of flipping him just to bust a defense attorney. Wouldn't they try and bust Johnson since he is the public official?
So many flips in the news this week this could be gymnastics class.
Doubtful anyone else in the DA office was involved with the bribes. That doesn't mean Johnson has information on other activities. That's a brilliant theory set forth above, that somehow RSS bribed Johnson to lower defendant's bonds...
That said, Johnson is getting a really, really sweet deal for what he has done, and whoever he is flipping on had better be prepared for some really, really dark days ahead.
Agree 5:55. All this mindless back and forth will prove meaningless.
The Olympic Committee is watching...
co-conspirator could be anyone. It could be a file clerk, it could be his boss, it could be a defense lawyer, it could be another ADA. It could be anyone as far as we know at this point.
In other words, it is a known unknown and we won't know what the unknown is until we see a further action in court. Then the known unknown will become known and won't be unknown anymore.
Attorney Ivon Johnson is now out of a job/profession for fixing bonds." Dang Ivon, you cannot fix stupid". Who in the world told you, you can help criminals in this fashion". Your job was the Assistant DA! Now your career is ruined over a damn inmate!!!! Stop watching those gansta movies!
Yup. He will probably lose his law license.
pleading guilty to a felony forfeits a law license upon conviction. there is a process, but the outcome is known to all parties.
KF, the identify of the co-conspirator[s] could be anyone, but if they are also in the DA office, why weren't they arrested along with Johnson.
Complete speculation: the bribery conspirator will be a defense attorney or two. Johnson has more information on unrelated matters that he is leveraging for the slap on the wrist for his bribery.
All of this should shake the confidence of the average citizen in the fairness of so called "white -collar" investigation. What this bozo did was a pebble in the ocean compared to the years of corruption in the Hinds County D.A's office under Ed Peters. Ed and his cronies raised bribery to a new level, yet for years the FBI, A.G. and all the rest had no interest in stopping it. Now suddenly they have a magnifying glass on that office and they manage to cut out a small time operator who inherited the business. In the meantime all the Jackson haters cheer while they "root out corruption" under RSS who
could not tie Ed's shoes. When all is said and done they won't find that RSS took one dime in bribe money. Not that it matters. Ask Defense Attorneys-There's corruption in D.A.'s offices all over this state but Hinds County is suddenly the focus. I guess selective prosecution is better than none at all.
Kingfish should run for Hinds county DA office when RSS get's disbarred.He'd make a good one. Seriously.
OR, can RSS still hold office after losing his law license?
10:44 AM Didn't your ma teach you two wrongs don't make a right. You must be a lawyer.
11:20, you fail to understand. RSS is black, please notice. They are allowed to break the law. It is their right and their culture.
Could any of the co-conspirator's be a candidate for Jackson mayor?
