State Auditor Stacey Pickering issued the following press release:
Former City Clerk of Itta Bena Sentenced
Jackson,
Miss –State Auditor Stacey Pickering announces LaCheronda Spivey,
former City Clerk of Itta Bena, pled guilty to one count of embezzlement
and was sentenced to serve 1 year of house arrest, followed by 5 years
of post-release supervision.
Spivey was also ordered to pay restitution in the amount of $47,318.98 to the City of Itta Bena.
The former city clerk took funds from the light, water, and sewer accounts from 2010-2014.
Special Agents from the State Auditor’s Office served Spivey with a civil demand last November in the amount of $149,088.22.
“My
office has already returned $50,000 to the City of Itta Bena from Ms.
Spivey’s bond,” State Auditor Stacey Pickering said. “I’m pleased the
Citizens of Itta Bena will recoup the money that was embezzled, and we
will continue to hold those in public office accountable for their
actions.”
Spivey was the Deputy City Clerk of Itta Bena from 1999-2011. She became the City Clerk in 2011 until her resignation in 2014.

How does 49 in restitution equal 147 in demand?
For a town of approx. 2000 people, this has to be the most corrupt town per capita in the USA. How much money has been uncovered as stolen (embezzled) over the last few years?
On the road to Itta Bena:
"Any of you boys know your way around a Walther PPK?"
"Well there's your problem, George. I don't believe that's in Mississippi."
Classic example of black on black crime
Isn't that the town ex mayor of Washington D.C.is from?
None of this adds up here.....something more is going on or the figures are grossly miscalculated. Someone needs to look deeper into this than what is reported and for the crime handed out, please!!!
The cost of the "investigation" can be charged to a defendant. I suppose there was a lot of evidence in Disney World that needed gathering in this case
People steal cars worth a tenth of that and get prison...whats this house arrest BS? She should get 10 yrs easy.
8:37 The DA has to prosecute, not the Auditor. DA's do not like to go after government officials or employees. It could cost them votes next election. This is true for both Democrats and Republicans.
Pickering makes money demands he never collects so his annual Audit Exceptions Report looks good.He demanded that DMR Bill Walker pay $1.3 million(+or-) and ended up getting 2 donated 30 year old boats that were renovated with taxpayer money.Walker has never paid a penny out of own pocket. What would be interesting to see is the amount of demands and/or settlements that are actually paid.I would be shocked if more than 50% is ever collected from those who get caught. .
What do we want?
Pickering in Jail!
When do we want it?
Now!
Disney World?
I thought he was in Las Vegas for three months!!!!!
No, the dope-headed ex-mayor of D.C., Marion Barry, is from Leland, not Itter Beaner.
Far be it from me to make an off-color suggestion, but does anybody know of a white clerk in a water department in this state who has been caught stealing money? This seems to be the most frequent crime that occurs (and is found out) in city halls across and up and down the state. But, back to the question.....
