Jackson Mayor Tony Yarber issued the following press release:
Mayor Tony T. Yarber's Statement in Support of Law Enforcement Officers, Agencies
This administration has worked tirelessly to create a seamless city where race and class work as partners and not as antagonists. We have made great strides in our efforts to build political bridges inside and outside of the city. An integral part of this task has included the many joint efforts by the Jackson Police Department collaborating with outside law enforcement agencies. This approach has resulted in the development of a family relationship that is formidable and cohesive in its goal of serving and protecting all citizens. Any challenges that we face in this area will continue to be resolved in an honorable and peaceful manner.
We refuse to be sidetracked by comments that do not represent the heartbeat of the Capital City nor its respect and honor to those who serve and protect us all.

Weak. He has yet to condemn Stokes by name. Total lack of leadership by the Mayor.
Hey Yarber- You either support Stokes or you don't. Your statement is nothing more than trying to put out a fire with a quick spit. It doesn't work. Yarber won't say that Stokes comments are are reprehensible. Any comments that I would use to describe the Mayor in this situation would be considered to rude to publish. He's shown his true colors.
I will not be satisfied until Yarber, the mayor of a city I explicitly state that I do not care about in various comments on each blog entry, challenges Mr. Stokes to a tables, ladders and chairs match. This statement is not sufficient.
Hey Tony T! I see what ya did there! You used a LOT of words but didn't say anything.
There was not a condemnation of Stokes or his suggested policies. There was no call for his resignation. There was not effort to call-out Keffuf for the race-baiting a**hole that he is.
When asked about his policies, Kenny Stokes pivoted to attaching the Governor and the State flag.
Some people say that it is unfair to cast all of the black citizens as white-hating racists, but so far, it has been really difficult that find any that either disagree with Stokes, or who will speak out against him.
Simply put: Stokes appears to be saying what the majority of black citizens and "black leadership" already believe:
IF YOU ARE WHITE, THEN YOU ARE NOT WELCOME IN JACKSON.
Yarber's press release seems to reflect that he's a very weak mayor (which many of us already knew).
Stokes must have sump'n on Tony.
Anyone seen a comment from Vance yet?
Can you say RAY NAGIN ?????
I wish the mayor would put on her big girl panties and force Strokes to resign
I think this a very politically smart statement that is far more damning of and potentially damaging to Stokes than calling him names.
I think it very smart to criticize the behavior and attitude and model a better way than to make this all about Stokes.
If you want Stokes to lose support, attacking him so his supporters only see the attacks and leap to his defense without thinking is not the way to do it.
His supporters will think he is being attacked by the same racists who condemn them without knowing them, and not see that those who aren't racists find Stokes unworthy of their support.
Those of you who are racists hurt good leadership in the Black community, you set them up to look like " Uncle Tom's" or to appear that their success has caused them to also look down on poor folks...that they've " sold out" their people.
And, you look like you attack all blacks so you make Stokes seem justified in trusting no white person. Stokes plays on their fear of whites like you!
YYYYYAAAaaaawwwwwnnnnn
Sssssnnnnoooorrreeeeee
ZzzzzzZZZZzzzzzzzzzz
11:29... what the hell are you talking about?.. loads of the metro jackson wealth lives inside the city of jackson. Most of them vote and supported tony. Look at the Puckett family own Puckett machinery in flowood NE Jackson family. Speeds ergon. Mattice renaissance NE jackson family. Yates family members that have Bloomfield in pearl that outlet mall and Braves stadium. Lots and lots of physicians as well live in jackson. So you need to look at that before speaking out like a middle class white redneck.
There isn't any difference in the mayor of Jackson and Stokes. That is true of the chief of police also. If either was doing their job there wouldn't be any need of a police chase in the first place. When all elected officials of a city encourage criminals they will continue to be criminals and attract other criminals.
Jackson is running over with criminals. They have already stolen every thing that is worth stealing in Jackson and are now leaving the city for better pickings.
Chief isn't doing his job? Chief no different than Stokes?
You are a frigging idiot. In fact, you are probably just saying that because Vance is black. Get lost, klukker.
Like Tony Yarber and I voted for Tony Yarber. But I'm surprised and concerned that he seems to not appreciate how much damage Stokes has caused to our city. Had family in Denver call after they saw a news report about Stokes. This has legs. I do not see how this doesn't hurt businesses in Jackson.
Vance is doing his job? If that is true why do we see so many criminals coming from Jackson? Why is the crime rate so high in Jackson? Why is there a catch and release program in Jackson?
I don't give a damn what color a person is. If they can not or will not do their job they are a sorry person. Vance just so happens to fulfill the requirements of a sorry person.
Just another Stokes supporter.
Whatever you say, Klukker. Vance is not the one letting them out or letting them stay on the street. However, we won't confuse you with facts.
@11:03 AM, ever see a feral hog trap with a hole in the back? Sooner or later the pigs all find the hole and get out. Vance is catching them but the DA and certain Hinds Judges refuse to close the hole in the back of the trap.
Ever hear one word out of Tommie Green asking the Supremes and State of Mississippi for emergency help?
I live, work, and shop in Jackson. Many of my friends and family also live, work, and shop here. Some own their own businesses, which are located in Jackson and are thriving. We all "feel welcome" here, and we are white. Some of you people are just ridiculous and nothing more than Internet trolls. Stokes needs to go, for sure, but his antics do not make or break Jackson. Far from it. He does not wield that kind of power. In fact, I think his buffoonery is finally causing the opposite of his intentions: leaders from the entire metro area are coming out against him and will hopefully work together to make all of our communities safer from the criminals he seeks to protect. If only our D.A. will participate...
If I remember right wasn't Stokes the person who stole all of the Ms. state flags and hid them in a closet?
Sure sounds like a fair minded person. Wonder if it ever crossed his mind that his behavior was much worse than what he thought the flag did to the image of Ms?
Vance cannot even run the police dept much less control crime. People seem to forget how many Jackson cops have been shown to be criminals during his watch. They also seem to forget it when Jackson cops fail to show up when there is a crime being committed.
Could be they are just too busy with their personal side business.
Regarding the 'press release'...who wrote it? Of course it was not Yarber. It's much too grammatically correct for anybody on city payroll to have written it. Question remains....WHO? Have they got an English teacher at Prep on silent contract?
"Have they got an English teacher at Prep on silent contract?"
That's funny.
Yarber was a teacher and principal.
Whether he wrote this or not, he is better at grammar than you are 1:20pm. And, he can also use adverbs and adjectives correctly in a sentence.
much too? have they got? God help you!
Better grammar and the use of adverbs and adjectives correctly has nothing to do with honesty and ability to do the job.
It only makes it easier to deceive people.
