Local law enforcement officials responded on Facebook to Kenneth Stokes' incitements to Jackson residents to commit violence against police officers:
Madison County Sheriff Randy Tucker posted this message on Facebook:
Stokes...... I'm your huckleberry!
Law Enforcement will not be intimidated by you. Any Madison county law enforcement that is attacked because of your ignorant statements, I will hold you responsible. I fully intend to contact the Ms Attorney General and inquire if your statements constitute assaults on officers by threat.
Meanwhile, the Richland Police Department issued this statement on Facebook as well:
"I have every faith that the law abiding and peaceful people living in our communities will not rise up in riot, or bring violence against the men and women who are risking so much to protect them. The officers of the Richland Police Department will continue, to the best of our ability, to enforce and follow the laws of the great state of Mississippi. Thank you all for your prayers and support; God Bless"! Chief James

Sounds likes Stokes needs to be prosecuted.
Kenneth Stokes, none of the Chiefs or Sheriffs of the surrounding areas would ever think or encourage anyone to attack a citizen of Jackson or its law enforcement personnel. The Officers of Jackson Police Department would not say or think that. They just aren't wired that way. All of my personal interactions with JPD have been great, not just OK but really good. They worked hard to solve a crime committed against me and they did solve it, I was super impressed and tell everyone about it. I will even give the short version at the bottom of this response. I have lived in Rankin and Madison and never could have imagined a representative of a city in America would greenlight officers from neighboring jurisdictions.
I know you believe things that are not so about race relations and I want to be the first person to tell you that white people do not hate black people and black people do not hate white people. People of all races do not want to be made victims of crime, period. Crime is the main thing that matters in decisions of where to live, many people move to areas they feel gives them and their family the best chance to avoid becoming victims of crime. Jackson Police do what they can to stem crime in Jackson, there is just so much to go around. Other agencies pursue criminals when criminals appear on their radar. Each criminal is responsible for many crimes and usually get bolder with each crime, that is why it is important to break them of bad habits at the first opportunity. Officers do that for us so we can work, sleep and have lives worth living. It would be hard to live looking over your shoulder all the time.
Mr. Stokes, I will be the first to extend the Olive Branch to you. Go to Madison to any store, you will not find hate, go eat at a restaurant in Flowood, leave fifteen percent tip and you will not be hated. You will find many residents of your home city employed in stores you can go to, there is not price of admission, it is free to go in no matter where you are from. Get out a little and see that the world is not against you. Right now, you have the power to show others that it is ok to have respect for people different than you. I can tell you do not have any use for white people and I don't care but please do not encourage violence against anyone not engaged in a criminal act. You are hurting your people and keeping them down, no white person is interested in keeping them down. The more self sufficient all people are, the better our country will be.
Filling people with hope would do more for them than anything else, a hopeless people are a broke people.
The story: Three men broke into my property and stole the HVAC, JPD got the call from witness and had the men, car and my property in custody in minutes. They worked the case all the way through court. They did not just catch and release, they took all the steps for a successful prosecution. This was patrol all the way through the detectives, all worked together and did all they could do. They do not know me, they were just doing their jobs at 100%
Insurrection
Under federal law, it is a crime to incite, assist, or engage in such conduct against the United States.
I feel certain the State Of Mississippi and perhaps the City of Jackson has similar laws/ordinances. If Stokes behavior is not inciting violent acts against sworn law officers, I would like to know what it is.
A good first step would be a statement by Mayor Yarbor condemning Stokes' statement. Then the council should put out a statement as well. Their silence is deafening.
Stokes is a teflon whale. Nothing sticks to him.
Stokes is a lawyer. He knows better! I'm wondering if he knows there are JPD and HCSD cars in Madison county all the time. Hope they don't get the same treatment.
Finally!!!! One elected official and one appointed official come out and say something about Stokes!
I wouldn't expect anything less from Sheriff Tucker.
I am dumbfounded by City of Jackson and Hinds county officials silence on this.
loretta lynch, it is time to prove you are not a racist and actually do care about enforcing the law for all, regardless of race, creed, gender or religion.
Van Parham: I am genuinely happy that you have had good experience with JPD. I have not. I was kidnapped and the JPD detective could not have been less apathetic. He would not return calls I left asking for investigation updates, and he only contacted me once and that was to inform me the case was being closed. On the other hand, after a similar kidnapping occurred in Flowood, I contacted Flowood police. They were interested and they regularly contacted me to update me on their investigation (even though my JPD file was botched and worthless to them). Oh yeah, Flowood PD caught the guy.
Van, I truly hope you are right, that my case was the exception and JPD are competent and effective, but my experience with JPD has been terrible.
The City of Jackson and Hinds County will not do anything to him. This is a typical attitude towards "outsiders." I wouldn't expect anything less from anyone that drives with a Hinds County tag. If that statement is untrue, then he will be removed from office. If he stays, then the real truth is apparant, and Hinds County residents will not be welcome in the suburban residential areas. That too, is a fact.

The Pearl Chief of Police had this to say earlier

So the next time one of the (reliably anonymous) Donna Ladd-like cretins that haunt JJ state that the ROW is looking down on Jackghanistan because of comments left here you know that THEY ARE FOREVER AND ALWAYS COMPLETELY FULL OF SHIT.
BOOM!
Van
I agree with you. JPD is not the problem. The problem is the judicial system from top to bottom. I was also a victim of a crime in hinds county. The investigator was great. The prosecuting attorney had everything so screwed up that the prick almost walked. The day Kenny Stokes goes away will be a good day for Jackson. I'm very disappointed by yarbers statement. Why not come out and totally put Kenny in his place? The city will continue to crumble. Get out while you can.
Kenneth Stokes, this is the law! Let something happen to Law Enforcement Officers by your action and this is what you have to look forward to. Ward 3 can't save your ass here.
This is a Felony.
Accessory before the fact MS code 97-1-3.
Every person who shall be an accessory to any felony, before the fact, shall be deemed and considered a principal, and shall be indicted and punished as such; and this whether the principal have been previously convicted or not.
I knew Larita and the daughter were lawyers but I don't think Bubba Stokes is.
December 2013, I was robbed at gunpoint in Jackson. My case was assigned to Detective Wells. As a retired LEO, I contacted HIM the next day and told him those involved had tried to use my AMEX at a gas station, Terry at McDowell Roads. I had talked to the business owner on the phone and verified he had video of the perps. Not wanting to taint the prosecution, I called Wells to let him know he needed to pick up the video within 3 days or it would be destroyed.
Well, that was the last time we spoke. The investigation into my case was either suspended or given an "EC" status. Either way, the UCR classification must have been given a "white victim" status and changed to a petit theft.
Either way, my opinion is that JPD can't catch their collective asses with both hands. Stokes wants no more chases, fine. Officers in neighboring jurisdictions should terminate all chases "BY WHATEVER MEANS NECESSARY" before they cross over into the Jackson city limits.
I applaud the well reasoned, professional statements of Sheriff Tucker and the Richland Sheriff.
It's a far cry from the unprofessional boycott idiocy from the Calhoun Sheriff!
I'm curious as to whether or not the retired LEO followed up by reporting the failure to Well's superiors and with the gas station to see if there was a problem with the video. While picking up the tape would perhaps taint the case, asking the station to retain the tape would not. So, I'm puzzled by the story.
I'm also very curious about how one is kidnapped twice by the same person in two different jurisdictions.
I've lived in two neighborhoods in Jackson and was active in their homeowners' associations. We have found JPD to be very responsive, cooperative and professional.
Does anyone believe the Calhoun County Sheriff's Department use vendors based in Jackson? The economic impact would be minuscule. Calhoun County is closer to Memphis than Jackson. Just like Kennuf, the Calhoun Sheriff has drawn attention to himself. Congratulations are in order.
To Sheriff Tucker's credit, on the other hand, he nailed the issue at hand in the initial response. The comment made needs to be dealt with swiftly. Catch and release would not be wise, accountability is needed. Note the swift response by the Governor.
Regarding the Calhoun response, MidSouth uniforms is in Jackson and they do quite a bit of business all from all over the state. The possibility that other agencies might fall in with them could have an significant impact on them and other Jackson businesses. Will others fall in? Probably not but it's possible.
I've lived in two neighborhoods in Jackson and was active in their homeowners' associations.
Which neighborhoods?
According to WJTV, Mayor Yarber issued a statement condemning Stoke's comment. No surprise that WLBT, who gave Stokes the microphone in the first place, hasn't mentioned it. Is it just me, or is giving Stoke's the forum to spread his idiotic message also reckless on WLBT's part?
I contacted Yarber and I got a smart ass response. These people don't care. Our business is in Jackson. I contacted the Councilman and received no answer. We won't be in Jackson much longer I grant you that. Property value of what we have just tanked! Thanks
I hope the idiot himself brings that rock to the gun fight.
That is HARDLY a condemnation from Yarber. Hardly.
People seem to forget or have a selective memory.
Did you forget about the Jackson cops who used their cop cars, uniforms to protect drug shipments flying into Jackson? Even did it during work hours.
Did you forget the video's of thieves stealing equipment and trailers. They were Jackson cops?
Did you forget the Jackson cop who tried to use his badge to get away with bringing in drugs from out of state?
Did you forget about the missing young girl killed by a girl friend of a cop when she found out the cop was keeping the girl?
Have you forgotten about the Jackson cop who was caught busting drug pushers then giving the drugs to his friends to sell?
I can understand why Stokes would like to stop law enforcement from chasing crooks back to Jackson. It could well be one of Jackson finest driving the stolen car.
