10:07, I think that's accurate, although it's a shame. If any of the other repubs were in a heat they'd bring out more voters, but this race isn't going to get the necessary vote out alone. Also, Phil's hoarding all his money for his retirement plan, as Weidie has been locked into lately. He's not providing anyone a helping hand.
These are serious accusations and involve not only criminal but ethical violations by either Hood, his office, or both. However if Hood and his office did these things as alleged, why didn't Hurst bring federal charges for obstruction of justice against Hood? As a lawyer, Hurst has a duty to report Hood's unethical actions to the Mississippi Bar as well. Failure to do so is an ethical violation on Hurst's behalf.
Since Hurst did neither of these things then a)this is total political b.s. or b)Hurst is no better than he alleges Hood is.

There ya go. Shoot the messenger.
I'm noticing in Hood's new commercial how Hood concludes by saying Hurst has never prosecuted a child pornographer and several other types of crimes. I wonder, General Hood, if that might because those crimes do not fall under the jurisdiction of the Federal Prosecutor's Office. Ya reckon? He probably never prosecuted speeders, clerks who steal from the Water Department or parking violators either.
The problem here is those crimes Hood has failed to prosecute and those criminals who he has refused to investigate.....not who the federal prosecutor didn't prosecute.
Hood's pompous, ballooned-up arse needs to go. He's already 'back home'. Just mail in your keys and badge.
1:51 - what a damn stretch. Because Hurst did not turn Hood in for Hood's failure to do his job, Hurst is the bad guy. What a backhanded way to defend your guy Hood.
All the facts of the case of the Police Chief were dealt with in court. Should we be waiting for your thoughts on the Judge's guilt for not turning Hood to the bar as well?
Same thing with Hood's interference in civil cases threatening to file criminal charges. Those were also highly publicized also, and if I remember were referred to the MS Bar. Maybe nobody worried about it in other cases because the Bar, as is normal for charges against most attorneys, turned a blind eye to any charges against the current AG.
Child Porn is very much a federal crime. See 18 U.S.C. § 2251; 18 U.S.C. § 2252; 18 U.S.C. § 2252A.
By the way, it's principally up to Stacey Pickering (who has more resources) to investigate financial corruption. Also, you forget that Hood isn't the only prosecutor in the state. The district attorney can also investigate and prosecute.
If Hood or someone in his office had violated the law or obstructed justice, does anyone believe that the Feds would not have brought charges??? Seriously, the Feds have no reason to protect Hood.
@7:25 You are correct that most child porn cases have been prosecuted by the state since Jim Hood is the leader of the U.S. DOJ's Crimes Against Children Task Force.
Prior to being elected AG, Hood was an elected district attorney. As such, the point being made in Hood's ad, which is apparently confusing to some, is that Hurst lacks experience. Hurst has never prosecuted a death penalty case, tried a child porn case, etc. Furthermore, Hurst has very little experience (criminal or civil) as an Assistant US Attorney (serving mostly under Eric Holder's Leadership).
Hurst's other legal experience was serving as a DC lobbyist for the likes of Argenbright (the company who ran the airport metal detectors on 9/11). Immediately after Sept 11th, Hurst lobbied congress to completely shield Argenbright from any liability for its failure to screen the 9/11 terrorist & for allowing the terrorist to board the planes with weapons on that fateful day.
Kingfish; Are you going to send 10:36 a bill for that Jim Hood ad? Re-electing this clown would be more of The Three Stooges. Re-electin' him would be like prosecutin' fambly....or somethin' like that. Send him packin'.
7:01 Hood is the only Dem in a statewide elected office here. I realize Obama only cares about himself, but the national Democratic officials might care about protecting Hood for only that reason.
I have never met Jim Hood. He may be a peach of a guy, but two things about him are inarguable. One, he has funneled millions to his buddies from state lawsuits, and some of those same guys have escaped his scrutiny when they fell on the other side of the law. Two, he has moved his personal residence and set up an office in Houston. Many people believe, including me, that indicates that he's ready to head to the house.
I'm not concerned that he's a Democrat, although his support of a national Democrat agenda - for example, failing to join with other states in actions against the Obama administration - show that he's concerned that he's a Democrat. I'm a little concerned that Hood's campaign manager and opposition research specialist are actively working - and presumably being paid - for one of the organizations supporting Initiative 42. In fact, they're the ones who filed the lawsuit against Bryant and Hosemann over the wording on the November ballot. Even though that ballot language was approved by the State Board of Election Commissioners, members of which are Bryant, Hosemann, and Hood, the lawsuit left Hood out, supposedly because he wasn't physically present at the meeting that approved the language. Apparently, he literally phoned it in from his taxpayer-funded Houston office, or maybe he was mobile at the time. After all, he had already said that he could run the AG's office from anywhere as long as he had his cell phone and iPad. I'd much rather have someone who actually wants to show up every morning and lead the Attorney General's staff members to do the things Mississippi needs them to do. It's time for a change, and Mike Hurst is a good man who will do a great job. Bill Billingsley
Dear God, PLEASE let us elect Mike Hurst. Time for Hood to go. Hoods inability to prosecute friends and associates in government makes him unfit to hold this position. We have a candidate that is a breath of fresh air and a bundle of trust and integrity. Hurst will have not problem in rooting out and prosecuting corruption wherever it may be. Lets not miss this opportunity.
At 2:54 PM: When this all shakes out you'll see it was all political b.s. If Hood did what Hurst is alleging then he would be facing some serious charges.
I have personally reporting the unethical, illegal contact of a fellow attorney to the MS Bar. Nothing was done. They made all sorts of excuses as to why they did not have to hold this person accountable. One excuse was that SOL had run, though offense involved concealing destruction of evidence that could not be discovered due to said destruction. Another avenue revealed solid proof which was provided to Bar. Bar never disputed any of the events occurred, just wouldn't act against their big buddy. Just because no action is taken doesn't mean a report wasn't made.
Trollfest '07 was such a success that Jackson Jambalaya will once again host Trollfest '09. Catch this great event which will leave NE Jackson & Fondren in flames. Othor Cain and his band, The Black Power Structure headline the night while Sonjay Poontang returns for an encore performance. Former Frank Melton bodyguard Marcus Wright makes his premier appearance at Trollfest singing "I'm a Sweet Transvestite" from "The Rocky Horror Picture Show." Kamikaze will sing his new hit, “How I sold out to da Man.” Robbie Bell again performs: “Mamas, don't let your babies grow up to be Bells” and “Any friend of Ed Peters is a friend of mine”. After the show, Ms. Bell will autograph copies of her mug shot photos. In a salute to “Dancing with the Stars”, Ms. Bell and Hinds County District Attorney Robert Smith will dance the Wango Tango.
Wrestling returns, except this time it will be a Battle Royal with Othor Cain, Ben Allen, Kim Wade, Haley Fisackerly, Alan Lange, and “Big Cat” Donna Ladd all in the ring at the same time. The Battle Royal will be in a steel cage, no time limit, no referee, and the losers must leave town. Marshand Crisler will be the honorary referee (as it gives him a title without actually having to do anything). Meet KIM Waaaaaade at the Entergy Tent. For five pesos, Kim will sell you a chance to win a deed to a crack house on Ridgeway Street stuffed in the Howard Industries pinata. Don't worry if the pinata is beaten to shreds, as Mr. Wade has Jose, Emmanuel, and Carlos, all illegal immigrants, available as replacements for the it. Upon leaving the Entergy tent, fig leaves will be available in case Entergy literally takes everything you have as part of its Trollfest ticket price adjustment charge.
Donna Ladd of The Jackson Free Press will give several classes on learning how to write. Smearing, writing without factchecking, and reporting only one side of a story will be covered. A donation to pay their taxes will be accepted and she will be signing copies of their former federal tax liens. Ms. Ladd will give a dramatic reading of her two award-winning essays (They received The Jackson Free Press "Best Of" awards.) "Why everything is always about me" and "Why I cover murders better than anyone else in Jackson".
In the spirit of helping those who are less fortunate, Trollfest '09 adopts a cause for which a portion of the proceeds and donations will be donated: Keeping Frank Melton in his home. The “Keep Frank Melton From Being Homeless” booth will sell chances for five dollars to pin the tail on the jackass. John Reeves has graciously volunteered to be the jackass for this honorable excursion into saving Frank's ass. What's an ass between two friends after all? If Mr. Reeves is unable to um, perform, Speaker Billy McCoy has also volunteered as when the word “jackass” was mentioned he immediately ran as fast as he could to sign up. In order to help clean up the legal profession, Adam Kilgore of the Mississippi Bar will be giving away free, round-trip plane tickets to the North Pole where they keep their bar complaint forms (which are NOT available online). If you don't want to go to the North Pole, you can enjoy Brant Brantley's (of the Mississippi Commission on Judicial Performance) free guided tours of the quicksand field over by High Street where all complaints against judges disappear. If for some reason you are unable to control yourself, never fear; Judge Houston Patton will operate his jail where no lawyers are needed or allowed as you just sit there for minutes... hours.... months...years until he decides he is tired of you sitting in his jail. Do not think Judge Patton is a bad judge however as he plans to serve free Mad Dog 20/20 to all inmates.
Trollfest '09 is a pet-friendly event as well. Feel free to bring your dog with you and do not worry if your pet gets hungry, as employees of the Jackson Zoo will be on hand to provide some of their animals as food when it gets to be feeding time for your little loved one.
Relax at the Fox News Tent. Since there are only three blonde reporters in Jackson (being blonde is a requirement for working at Fox News), Megan and Kathryn from WAPT and Wendy from WLBT will be on loan to Fox. To gain admittance to the VIP section, bring either your Republican Party ID card or a Rebel Flag. Bringing both and a torn-up Obama yard sign will entitle you to free drinks served by Megan, Wendy, and Kathryn. Get your tickets now. Since this is an event for trolls, no ID is required. Just bring the hate. Bring the family, Trollfest '09 is for EVERYONE!!!
This is definitely a Beaver production. Note: Security provided by INS.
Trollfest '07
Jackson Jambalaya is the home of Trollfest '07. Catch this great event which promises to leave NE Jackson & Fondren in flames. Sonjay Poontang and his band headline the night with a special steel cage, no time limit "loser must leave town" bout between Alan Lange and "Big Cat"Donna Ladd following afterwards. Kamikaze will perform his new song F*** Bush, he's still a _____. Did I mention there was no referee? Dr. Heddy Matthias and Lori Gregory will face off in the undercard dueling with dangling participles and other um, devices. Robbie Bell will perform Her two latest songs: My Best Friends are in the Media and Mama's, Don't Let Your Babies Grow up to be George Bell. Sid Salter of The Clarion-Ledger will host "Pin the Tail on the Trial Lawyer", sponsored by State Farm.
There will be a hugging booth where in exchange for your young son, Frank Melton will give you a loooong hug. Trollfest will have a dunking booth where Muhammed the terrorist will curse you to Allah as you try to hit a target that will drop him into a vat of pig grease. However, in the true spirit of Separate But Equal, Don Imus and someone from NE Jackson will also sit in the dunking booth for an equal amount of time. Tom Head will give a reading for two hours on why he can't figure out who the hell he is. Cliff Cargill will give lessons with his .80 caliber desert eagle, using Frank Melton photos as targets. Tackleberry will be on hand for an autograph session. KIM Waaaaaade will be passing out free titles and deeds to crackhouses formerly owned by The Wood Street Players.
If you get tired come relax at the Fox News Tent. To gain admittance to the VIP section, bring either your Republican Party ID card or a Rebel Flag. Bringing both will entitle you to free drinks.Get your tickets now. Since this is an event for trolls, no ID is required, just bring the hate. Bring the family, Trollfest '07 is for EVERYONE!!!

Hmmmm. An endorsement by a local politician who was just defeated for re-election. I guess Ken is jockeying for a job IF Hurst is elected.

It's a good thing he is no longer Sheriff in Simpson County. He should be in jail.
i like how it misspells the would "sheriff"
Isn't Donald O'Cain the new Sheriff in Simpson County?
Talk about sour grapes!

Hurst's press release today is oxygen on the flames.
It sure is evident that all the state employees in the AG's office have lots of time to comment on this blog.
