Disgusting.

Charge 'em.  Two San Antonio high school football players targeted a ref Friday night:

Assault & battery.  Ban them from high school sports as well and do the same thing to the coaches if they let them keep playing.

As teenagers talk. I am sure other team members knew that this was going to happen. There should be a team punishment as well as punishment for the coaches. A death penalty for the rest of the year seems about right. The referee is am authority figure, in today's climate there is a strong dislike for authorities. No excuse for this behavior. Luckily there was no serious injury but it could have been deadly.

7:35 -- Unless you have evidence that the team was in on it, shutting down the season is ridiculous. These two players probably made the decision to do this on the spur of the moment, after the previous play. At most, they thought about it for a few plays after disagreeing with a call. The idea that the team or coaches were in on it is baseless speculation.

Instead, charge them with aggravated assault. Football helmets are weapons, as evidenced by the number of serious injuries they inflict. Send these guys to prison for 5-10 years. That will get other players' attention in a way cancelling games never could.

and the other team too. surely they heard the 2 teenagers talk and they should also be punished. the spectators should be punished for seeing it.....

perhaps someone should make an attempt to find out all of the circumstances before they rush to judge the rest of the team

with that said, I have a hard time thinking that there was not an environment conducive for this behavior.

It goes without saying they should be ban from all sports for the remainder of high school, because they should be in jail for battery.

Just keep the 2 offending players out of all sports for the remainder of their time in high school and charge them with assault. If they get convicted and are not allowed to plead to a lesser charge most of the problems of what to do with them will be taken care of. Even though it is a very serious act(s) I do think it was spur of the moment. What doesn't need to happen is a slap on the wrist.

The ref's are part of the field, I think there should be due process, and the ref's are part of the field!

The second one was also a late hit.

The ref is considering pressing charges. Let's hope he does and send these jerks to jail. Big Bubba's head butts will get the job done.

An assistant coach is now being called the instigator.

7:35 has it right. The 'death penalty' for this team is the minimum acceptable punishment. Sixteen year old kids don't design this sort of retribution without adult involvement and encouragement.

And following the death penalty, the investigation should center on how many and which coaches were involved in encouraging this behavior. It's not a matter of IF. It's a matter of WHO and HOW MANY.

The ref could have been paralyzed being blindsided with that much force. Notice how understated the Northside AD's reaction was.

As a 20+ year high school and college football official, I'd say press charges. People who gripe about officiating need to realize there is an increasing shortage of good officials, partly due to incidents like this.

It should also be pointed out that on the high school level in Mississippi, if the current regime of the MHSAA stays in power, expect officiating to take a real dive. Morale has never been lower among officials. Really good refs are considering quitting. Many, myself included, have stopped recruiting young officials. A ref buddy of mine, who is friends with the regime, admitted to me, "they randomly pick and choose which rules they want enforced and which to be ignored." When we enforce the rule book only to get our legs cut out, after a while you just wonder even bother with these clowns.

I heard the Ref made a racial slur prior to the hit? Anyone know?

Anonymous said...

The racial slur accusation came two days after the hit. Interesting timing.

Even if the guy made a racial slur (which I doubt), that is no excuse for assault and battery. If he really said it, file a complaint. But your can't hammer people because they allegedly said something you didn't like.

Kingfish said...

Does anyone actually believe that happened?

Anonymous said...

I don't think anyone gives the racial slur credibility. If it happened there would most likely be more witnesses from kids in both uniforms. The assistant's comments are damning and don't support the racial slur angle these kids are trying to use.

Long Time Ref said...

Well, that certainly changes the scenery! Once a racial slur is suspected, we have Ferguson. And that's advocated even from The White House.

The larger problem we find ourselves facing, however, is, with porous and open borders, we can expect South American Soccer-Fan behavior to invade all our sports, both on the field and off.

Soon, there will be zero sportsmanship, zero gentle-manly conduct in athletic contests, zero discipline and order.

Okay, I agree that the race angle is probably B.S.

But that said, 5:44 has just set a world land speed record for getting from "Isolated Incident" to "Damn Dirty Mexicans Are Destroyin' Amurica." Which is why a lot of people buy race baiting narratives in the first place.

I thought about this for a moment, if the guy on the line says says your mamma is fat - take him down. If the coach or ref says, your mom is phat, keep your head in the game, take the ball from the other team and score so that everyone can see your fat (phat) mamma jump for joy as opposed to defending your stupidity.

Trollfest '09

Trollfest '07 was such a success that Jackson Jambalaya will once again host Trollfest '09. Catch this great event which will leave NE Jackson & Fondren in flames. Othor Cain and his band, The Black Power Structure headline the night while Sonjay Poontang returns for an encore performance. Former Frank Melton bodyguard Marcus Wright makes his premier appearance at Trollfest singing "I'm a Sweet Transvestite" from "The Rocky Horror Picture Show." Kamikaze will sing his new hit, “How I sold out to da Man.” Robbie Bell again performs: “Mamas, don't let your babies grow up to be Bells” and “Any friend of Ed Peters is a friend of mine”. After the show, Ms. Bell will autograph copies of her mug shot photos. In a salute to “Dancing with the Stars”, Ms. Bell and Hinds County District Attorney Robert Smith will dance the Wango Tango.

Wrestling returns, except this time it will be a Battle Royal with Othor Cain, Ben Allen, Kim Wade, Haley Fisackerly, Alan Lange, and “Big Cat” Donna Ladd all in the ring at the same time. The Battle Royal will be in a steel cage, no time limit, no referee, and the losers must leave town. Marshand Crisler will be the honorary referee (as it gives him a title without actually having to do anything).

Meet KIM Waaaaaade at the Entergy Tent. For five pesos, Kim will sell you a chance to win a deed to a crack house on Ridgeway Street stuffed in the Howard Industries pinata. Don't worry if the pinata is beaten to shreds, as Mr. Wade has Jose, Emmanuel, and Carlos, all illegal immigrants, available as replacements for the it. Upon leaving the Entergy tent, fig leaves will be available in case Entergy literally takes everything you have as part of its Trollfest ticket price adjustment charge.

Donna Ladd of The Jackson Free Press will give several classes on learning how to write. Smearing, writing without factchecking, and reporting only one side of a story will be covered. A donation to pay their taxes will be accepted and she will be signing copies of their former federal tax liens. Ms. Ladd will give a dramatic reading of her two award-winning essays (They received The Jackson Free Press "Best Of" awards.) "Why everything is always about me" and "Why I cover murders better than anyone else in Jackson".

In the spirit of helping those who are less fortunate, Trollfest '09 adopts a cause for which a portion of the proceeds and donations will be donated: Keeping Frank Melton in his home. The “Keep Frank Melton From Being Homeless” booth will sell chances for five dollars to pin the tail on the jackass. John Reeves has graciously volunteered to be the jackass for this honorable excursion into saving Frank's ass. What's an ass between two friends after all? If Mr. Reeves is unable to um, perform, Speaker Billy McCoy has also volunteered as when the word “jackass” was mentioned he immediately ran as fast as he could to sign up.

In order to help clean up the legal profession, Adam Kilgore of the Mississippi Bar will be giving away free, round-trip plane tickets to the North Pole where they keep their bar complaint forms (which are NOT available online). If you don't want to go to the North Pole, you can enjoy Brant Brantley's (of the Mississippi Commission on Judicial Performance) free guided tours of the quicksand field over by High Street where all complaints against judges disappear. If for some reason you are unable to control yourself, never fear; Judge Houston Patton will operate his jail where no lawyers are needed or allowed as you just sit there for minutes... hours.... months...years until he decides he is tired of you sitting in his jail. Do not think Judge Patton is a bad judge however as he plans to serve free Mad Dog 20/20 to all inmates.

Trollfest '09 is a pet-friendly event as well. Feel free to bring your dog with you and do not worry if your pet gets hungry, as employees of the Jackson Zoo will be on hand to provide some of their animals as food when it gets to be feeding time for your little loved one.

Relax at the Fox News Tent. Since there are only three blonde reporters in Jackson (being blonde is a requirement for working at Fox News), Megan and Kathryn from WAPT and Wendy from WLBT will be on loan to Fox. To gain admittance to the VIP section, bring either your Republican Party ID card or a Rebel Flag. Bringing both and a torn-up Obama yard sign will entitle you to free drinks served by Megan, Wendy, and Kathryn. Get your tickets now. Since this is an event for trolls, no ID is required. Just bring the hate. Bring the family, Trollfest '09 is for EVERYONE!!!

This is definitely a Beaver production.
