Posey won't be missed.

Looks like ol Lynn ran out of steam. Or maybe I should say he ran out of lignite.

Which can also be said for virtually any politician leaving office.

Who?

according to the CL, that job only pays $78,000. I'd quit too. Hell, young ada's make more than that.

The man has devoted 28 years of his LIFE to public service. How many of you complainers have contributed anything to the betterment of Mississippi? None? Yeah. I figured...

4:18 PM is as bitter as they come.

Anonymous said...

Not bitter my friend @4:47 just a bit concerned as to all the negativity regarding Posey.

Anonymous said...

His state pay is $78,000. His 'consulting' pay is probably twice that.

@ 4:18

Because without nice things like the beef plant and Kemper and Farish Street and the Diberville Dolphin boondoggle where would Mississippi be? Still stuck in last place?

Anonymous said...

@5:27 does that mean we can count on your name being on the ballot next year?!!?

@418 - what is the best way to affect change in Mississippi? sitting in office in Jackson? Or hitting the streets and trying to impact lives there?

The problem with all of our elected officials is that they all stink. For my entire life (more than 50 years), mississippi has been best at being the worst and worst at being the best (unless being best at being worst). How long do you give guys like Posey a free pass? 28 years is too long for idjuts like him to sit on their duffs and do nothing but pass time and exhale pollutants.

He must have two more PERS years tucked away somewhere. I figure a few months of 'leave time'. Maybe he drove a school bus in Junior College.

Can we look for Cecil Brown to try his hand at electric bills?

5:20 I am shocked that you suggest that a Mississippi elected official with vast power over huge companies with huge assets might work on the side "consulting". Now he might mow lawns in the summer or something, but who could he consult for?????

5:27 was too wild as a young adult said...

@6:19. Alas, I am unelectable due to various indiscretions in my youth.

Jackson, Miss. (December 28, 2014) Jason Cochran announced today that he is exploring the potential of running for Public Service Commission.
“I have been looking at several opportunities for public service, including the Mississippi Legislature and Public Service Commission, should Lynn Posey decide to not seek re-election. Having received confirmation today that Mr. Posey will not run for his post, I am seriously considering seeking election to fill his office. I have been approached by a number of individuals encouraging me to pursue this avenue, and I will continue to seek the counsel of my family, friends and others as I determine my course for the future,” stated Cochran.
Having grown-up in a family of public servants, including his father Neilson Cochran, his mother Connie Cochran, and his uncle Thad Cochran, Jason understands the commitment required in serving the citizens of Mississippi. Jason Cochran expects to formulate his plans and announce his decision within the next several weeks.
According to Cochran, “Lynn Posey has a long and distinguished record of serving in the Mississippi Legislature and as Public Service Commissioner, for eight (8) years. I congratulate him on his commitment to the people of Mississippi and look forward to determining how I can best serve the citizens.”

Whatever happened to Nielson Cochran?

But, anyway, two strikes against young Cochran are found in his trial balloon (above). (1) He refers to the job as Posey's Post. (2) He congratulates Posey on a long and successful stint at serving the public. Both of those are red flaggers.

I reckon he thinks he can subliminally transfer all of Posey's support to himself with those remarks.

1:55 a.m. is probably correct. There is a rule in Mississippi that the Barbour family has first right of refusal of any political job opening up.

Excellent point.

Several of you are misspelling "public servant" it is "self servant". Get it right!

Historically that may have been true, but two major changes have occurred.

1) Most Republicans I know were nauseated by Haley's pardons of 5 guys who murdered their wives/girlfriends in broad daylight, in front of the victim's kids, etc, and even bought cars for a few of them. Normal people found this morally repugnant, and realized what a windbag he is about "family values"

2) His financial management skills are being exposed with the failure of the handouts to his cronies to revitalize the gulf coast after Katrina. There was some legitimate disagreement about whether the money should be used for housing (when no jobs were available) versus jobs (when there was no housing for workers who came back to the coast) but the long term results now show that neither result was a real concern for Haley's crew, just grabbing the federal money.

I don't think the Barbour name is carries much weight in MS anymore, something I never would have believed ten years ago.

Like a Greek tragedy, all the shame and embarrassment is self-induced due to his own greed.

I agree with 1:55 and 9:51. The Barbours certainly feel entitled to any job (hence Charles B's running for most any office). The coal plant boondoggle always has Barbour fingerprints on it to my understanding. Haley B is a very smart guy.

If Mississippi benefits from Haley helping Haley then all the good, but I think its more about Haley helping Haley than Haley helping anything else.

I hear Lee Yancey needs a job.

Anybody got a bio on Jason Cochran?

Clear Vision said...

9:51; Too many of you actually believe the electorate gives a whit about 'the pardons'. Most of them (not counting the low information crowd) know full well that 85% of the pardons were granted to people who were NOT incarcerated.

If you think the Barbours don't still have a strangle-hold monopoly, where were you when Republicans trotted out the youngest of the Barbour stable, repetitively, during the Cochran Chronicles?

Nothing happens in Mississippi politics without a faint Barbour Watermark on it in one way or another.

Isn't Jeppie still hanging around headquarters downtown, monitoring who comes and goes from the building and for what purpose, wearing what color golf shirt?

This is still the Ponderosa, Ben is still in charge, Hoss is still at the door, Joe is doing what he does best, Adam is tattling and Hop Sing is over at Tico's reserving tables.

Dear lord we don't need another Barbour or Cochran. Maybe we'll get lucky and an intelligent retired businessman with time on his hands and is tired of all the crooks will run. I'd even vote for 'the rent is too damn high' guy from New York. Maybe we should contact him.

I can only hope that the son is nothing like his father, whom I found to be the worst of the worst as politicians go.

I worried during those days, when we were trying to grow the GOP in MS, that Neilson would taint not just his brother, but the entire party.

Neilson was certainly the power company's " darling" while on the Public Service Commission!

And, why isn't is a surprise that Jason is a utility company project manager!?!

I never liked Haley Barbour. I saw him for what he is early on, but the Barbour paranoia on this site is just that...paranoia.

Haley is not smart enough to be the Machiavellian mastermind y'all imagine.

If he were, he'd have had the self-discipline to lose some weight and not ruin his chances at running for President.

He may add to his portfolio but he blew it when it comes to real power and influence.

He's always been and always will be a money grubber. He's good at that but he's not good at acquiring anything he can't buy!

The big boys are and now forever will be using him, not the other way around.

Ah well, at least there is one candidate that can count without taking off his shoes even though he's a Democrat.

We really don't want anyone whose eyes glaze over when the utilities whip out their numbers.

Trollfest '09

Trollfest '07 was such a success that Jackson Jambalaya will once again host Trollfest '09. Catch this great event which will leave NE Jackson & Fondren in flames. Othor Cain and his band, The Black Power Structure headline the night while Sonjay Poontang returns for an encore performance. Former Frank Melton bodyguard Marcus Wright makes his premier appearance at Trollfest singing "I'm a Sweet Transvestite" from "The Rocky Horror Picture Show." Kamikaze will sing his new hit, “How I sold out to da Man.” Robbie Bell again performs: “Mamas, don't let your babies grow up to be Bells” and “Any friend of Ed Peters is a friend of mine”. After the show, Ms. Bell will autograph copies of her mug shot photos. In a salute to “Dancing with the Stars”, Ms. Bell and Hinds County District Attorney Robert Smith will dance the Wango Tango.

Wrestling returns, except this time it will be a Battle Royal with Othor Cain, Ben Allen, Kim Wade, Haley Fisackerly, Alan Lange, and “Big Cat” Donna Ladd all in the ring at the same time. The Battle Royal will be in a steel cage, no time limit, no referee, and the losers must leave town. Marshand Crisler will be the honorary referee (as it gives him a title without actually having to do anything).

Meet KIM Waaaaaade at the Entergy Tent. For five pesos, Kim will sell you a chance to win a deed to a crack house on Ridgeway Street stuffed in the Howard Industries pinata. Don't worry if the pinata is beaten to shreds, as Mr. Wade has Jose, Emmanuel, and Carlos, all illegal immigrants, available as replacements for the it. Upon leaving the Entergy tent, fig leaves will be available in case Entergy literally takes everything you have as part of its Trollfest ticket price adjustment charge.

Donna Ladd of The Jackson Free Press will give several classes on learning how to write. Smearing, writing without factchecking, and reporting only one side of a story will be covered. A donation to pay their taxes will be accepted and she will be signing copies of their former federal tax liens. Ms. Ladd will give a dramatic reading of her two award-winning essays (They received The Jackson Free Press "Best Of" awards.) "Why everything is always about me" and "Why I cover murders better than anyone else in Jackson".

In the spirit of helping those who are less fortunate, Trollfest '09 adopts a cause for which a portion of the proceeds and donations will be donated: Keeping Frank Melton in his home. The “Keep Frank Melton From Being Homeless” booth will sell chances for five dollars to pin the tail on the jackass. John Reeves has graciously volunteered to be the jackass for this honorable excursion into saving Frank's ass. What's an ass between two friends after all? If Mr. Reeves is unable to um, perform, Speaker Billy McCoy has also volunteered as when the word “jackass” was mentioned he immediately ran as fast as he could to sign up.

In order to help clean up the legal profession, Adam Kilgore of the Mississippi Bar will be giving away free, round-trip plane tickets to the North Pole where they keep their bar complaint forms (which are NOT available online). If you don't want to go to the North Pole, you can enjoy Brant Brantley's (of the Mississippi Commission on Judicial Performance) free guided tours of the quicksand field over by High Street where all complaints against judges disappear. If for some reason you are unable to control yourself, never fear; Judge Houston Patton will operate his jail where no lawyers are needed or allowed as you just sit there for minutes... hours.... months...years until he decides he is tired of you sitting in his jail. Do not think Judge Patton is a bad judge however as he plans to serve free Mad Dog 20/20 to all inmates.

Trollfest '09 is a pet-friendly event as well. Feel free to bring your dog with you and do not worry if your pet gets hungry, as employees of the Jackson Zoo will be on hand to provide some of their animals as food when it gets to be feeding time for your little loved one.

Relax at the Fox News Tent. Since there are only three blonde reporters in Jackson (being blonde is a requirement for working at Fox News), Megan and Kathryn from WAPT and Wendy from WLBT will be on loan to Fox. To gain admittance to the VIP section, bring either your Republican Party ID card or a Rebel Flag. Bringing both and a torn-up Obama yard sign will entitle you to free drinks served by Megan, Wendy, and Kathryn. Get your tickets now. Since this is an event for trolls, no ID is required. Just bring the hate. Bring the family, Trollfest '09 is for EVERYONE!!!

This is definitely a Beaver production.
