Charles Barbour came in 4th place. Will he finally realize he can't be elected?

Interested to see how Carson handles Foote's tax issues during the runoff.

Anonymous said...

It was a mistake to pick Foote over Wilson. The Democrats have a pretty good chance of picking up the seat now.

Tax issues?? This is now a two way race between a liberal democrat (Carson) and a conservative republican (Foote) I'm MUCH more concerned about Carson's tax issues and those would he is FINE with raising MY taxes!!

Anonymous said...

this is going to be good. they can both raise ample money. dorsey should be a little concerned that a large percentage of those 1200 votes that do go vote again will go to foote.

Anonymous said...

Guess the voters didn't buy Wilson's wild-ass stories.

Anonymous said...

The democrats got 38% & the republicans got 62%, that's about right.

Anonymous said...

Why won't Carson reveal just how much money that he donated to obama ? I heard the number is huge...This broke ass city does not need a tax and over spend obama liberal anywhere near our tax base.

Anonymous said...

According to FEC reports, Carson gave $1,850 to Barack Obama in 2008. He also gave $1,400 to Travis Childers in 09-10. And now he's running for the Republican nomination? How can any conservative justify giving money to elect Barack Obama?

Ashby sould pick up votes of Amile and Charles if he can motivate them to vote again in 2 weeks.

Anonymous said...

Who is going to pick up all those Barbour signs tomorrow??

8:55 grow up and put your name on a ballot. Or at least put your name on a post. People like you are the reason good people don't run for public office.

Mr. Foote. I just reviewed your advertisement and your campaign finance report as well as the other candidates reports. All have listed JJ as an advertiser except for one person - that would be Mr. Carson. Unless my eyes deceive me, either Mr. Carson got free advertisement courtesy of JJ or he failed to itemize the advertisement on his report.

If it is the latter of the two, which I'm sure is the case, how can he or his assistants be trusted with city finances? The only advertisement listed on his report is with the JFP.

It certainly doesn't add up at all.

Anonymous said...

11:57, look at the time period covered by the report (through November 22). Then look back through JJ posts and find advertisements for Carson. It appears all ads were run after this reporting period. Others were running ads before Nov. 22.

Anonymous said...

@11:57 i noticed the same thing. however before you go accusing folks you need to know what you are talking about. and you dont. the reports run through the 22nd. dorsey was a late advertiser to jj as his ads didnt appear until the last week. when the next reports come out before the runoff then you can raise the issue. he probably wanted to wait as long as possible to offend jfp or something but im sure it was on purpose and he had a reason. he is pretty savvy.

before you attack me i voted for foote but i was impressed with doreys campaign.

We've got two very qualified candidates for a change. It's very likely the Wilson/Barbour votes will go to Foote.

Rather than just be happy, it seems more than a few have to make sure politics is a blood sport.

Those who do , as far as I'm concerned, are simply reveal they are insecure, angry, unhappy people who can only feel good about themselves by belittling others.

So...go on...embarrass yourselves.

Let's see a reasonable successful conservative business plan who just wants to help versus a liberal plaintiffs attorney who sees the savior of MS Dems whenever he looks in mirror....

Anonymous said...

If Foote goes negative he'll lose.

Anonymous said...

Bill Denny already highlighted Carson's Obama support. Beating that dead horse won't get Ashby any traction as it isn't news to the Ward. Playing to voters as a Republican Harpy might please some of the rabid droolers here at JJ but it only detracts from Ashby's campaign message and GOTV outreach. Carson won 7 of 10 precincts. Ashby has better things to do than going hyper partisan.

Do you know what a Plaintiffs' attorney is? Dorsey is a construction lawyer you idiot. Sometimes he has to sue to enforce a contract and sometimes he has to defend his client from a lawsuit. His work primarily revolves around business disputes.

In fact, Dorsey represented Foote successfully in the Bigger Pie Forum suit against the coal plant boondoggle (which is going to be a bigger waste of taxpayer money than anything seen in decades in this state).

For your education, Richard Schwartz, Don Evans, etc are Plaintiffs' attorneys in that all they do is sue people for injuries. They never represent a business or even get involved in interpreting contractual documents.

Dorsey is a leader in his legal field..... and by the way, I am not wild he is a democrat either. I wish he were a republican....he'd be a congressman by now.

What Dorsey does offer is intelligence, a solid look at all sides of an issue, experience in negotiating complex matters, and an optimistic attitude that NE Jackson can do better than it has and that what the future holds is bright.

Looks like we got two good candidates. Good news for the Council. Now, who's going to replace LaRooter when she starts singing "Here comes the judge, here comes the judge..."?

Anonymous said...

One candidate (D. Carson) works in Jackson while the other Jackson City Councilman candidate chose to locate the office of his small business in Ridgeland. Yes, Ridgeland. Surprised this is not getting more traction.

Bill Dees said...

@10:20 PM: It's not a "Republican primary", it's a general election.

Anonymous said...

Dorsey sued Leland with false accusations.

Did you have to quit sucking your thumb to type that entire sentence?

Good Lord son, shoot yourself.

Anonymous said...

Shouldn't Dorsey identify himself when he posts.

Kingfish said...

How many of you would vote to put them both on the city council if you could do so?

Anonymous said...

in response to kingfish. YES that would be fantastic. foote to look at numbers and carson to look at contracts. that truly would be a win-win.

To dorsey- move to ward 7 and run there. they will love you.

Anonymous said...

5:15....win win. great idea

Anonymous said...

Whitwell was a business lawyer and how did that work out. Friends it just does not matter.

Anonymous said...

7:17 do something, anything, except being a shithead about people that try.

Anonymous said...

I for one, will NOT vote for anyone who financially supports obama

Anonymous said...

7:17
Whitwell was a lobbyist, not a business lawyer.

Anonymous said...

so wrong @ 8:51 AM..it is paramount that the voters know about dorsey's slobbering relationship with the worst president in history , a president that has come close to destroying our country by cheating, lying and drifting lawlessly through one devastating crisis after another from the golf course. In case you have forgotten obama and his policies were rejected nationwide by the largest loss in the house and senate ever by a president, one that also has the lowest approval rating of any president in history (28%) So for you to say dorseys "man crush" on obama doesn't matter show a lot about your character or lack there of.

From the reading of Adam Ganucheau this morning it is apparent that Amile Wilson significantly underperformed versus expectations.

Kingfish said...

He is a newb who doesn't even know he is a newb. His analysis was completely wrong. Wilson was outspent more than 2:1 by Carson and Foote. He wasn't well-known outside of party insiders. Carson ran for house in 2011 and was well-funded. Foote has been in the community for a long time and is known among quite a few Northsiders. They all ran good races. They all got out there and knocked on doors, put up signs, did the coffee circuit, and kept it fairly clean. Too bad most local races can't resemble this one.

Anonymous said...

8:51 - learn to analyze results before you open mouth (or turn fingers loose on keyboard). Carson won two precincts, not seven. To win a precinct takes 50.1%. He did 'lead' in seven of the ten precincts - lead a field of six, four of whom were dividing their base vote among themselves.

Carson "won" New Jeruselum Church and Boyd School. He 'almost' won two others with 47% - McCloud School and Virginia College. Just so happens that these four precincts are the four precincts in Ward 1 that have traditionally voted with a Democratic majority. The other six precincts have traditionally voted primarily Republican. Ironic? Didn't think so.

Anonymous said...

Just so happens that these four precincts are the four precincts in Ward 1 that have traditionally voted with a Democratic majority.

Traditionally? Define how many years in the past constitutes 'traditionally'? PUT UP.

Anonymous said...

12:38 - each and every general election, and special election that includes these four precincts since 2005 - measuring credible races that did not include incumbents.

Specifically - Obama/McCain each precinct was 60%+ dem; two over 70%.
Obama/Romney each precinct was 70% dem with one precinct 90%.
Both of these two years you can measure the US Senate race as well, although it violates the principle set out - it pit incumbent Wicker against Democratic Al Gore (not the VP). Results matched the presidential vote.

2007 - go to the races that did not include incumbents - auditor & ag.
(Sumrall - you remember him I'm sure - against Pickering; Ricky Cole vs Spell)

P36 was a draw. the other three were 55%+ democratic.

2011 - Dupree/Bryant Gov matched by Joel Gill/Cindy Hyde-Smith.

Closest race was in 36 at 55% dem - ranged to P79 with 71% dem.

So. Ten years. Enough documentation for you. Next time do your own work - or just make us all happy and just shut up.

@8:41 Dec 2 "Interested to see how Carson handles Foote's tax issues during the runoff."

The interesting thing will be to see KF will touch Foote's "tax issues" with his reputation as an "in depth impartial" reporter and Foote as a paid advertiser on his site.

What are the odds KF and I are the only ones that will ever see this?

Anonymous said...

11:47 AM just like KF never posted and did a story on the the campaign finance reports.

Kingfish said...

Actually one of you posted them in the comments and there was a pretty good discussion about it. So touchy. But hey, if thats what you want? That is what you will get tomorrow or tonight. Happy?

So Dorsey has gone negative, I see. Oh, well.

Trollfest '09

Trollfest '07 was such a success that Jackson Jambalaya will once again host Trollfest '09. Catch this great event which will leave NE Jackson & Fondren in flames. Othor Cain and his band, The Black Power Structure headline the night while Sonjay Poontang returns for an encore performance. Former Frank Melton bodyguard Marcus Wright makes his premier appearance at Trollfest singing "I'm a Sweet Transvestite" from "The Rocky Horror Picture Show." Kamikaze will sing his new hit, “How I sold out to da Man.” Robbie Bell again performs: “Mamas, don't let your babies grow up to be Bells” and “Any friend of Ed Peters is a friend of mine”. After the show, Ms. Bell will autograph copies of her mug shot photos. In a salute to “Dancing with the Stars”, Ms. Bell and Hinds County District Attorney Robert Smith will dance the Wango Tango.

Wrestling returns, except this time it will be a Battle Royal with Othor Cain, Ben Allen, Kim Wade, Haley Fisackerly, Alan Lange, and “Big Cat” Donna Ladd all in the ring at the same time. The Battle Royal will be in a steel cage, no time limit, no referee, and the losers must leave town. Marshand Crisler will be the honorary referee (as it gives him a title without actually having to do anything).

Meet KIM Waaaaaade at the Entergy Tent. For five pesos, Kim will sell you a chance to win a deed to a crack house on Ridgeway Street stuffed in the Howard Industries pinata. Don't worry if the pinata is beaten to shreds, as Mr. Wade has Jose, Emmanuel, and Carlos, all illegal immigrants, available as replacements for the it. Upon leaving the Entergy tent, fig leaves will be available in case Entergy literally takes everything you have as part of its Trollfest ticket price adjustment charge.

Donna Ladd of The Jackson Free Press will give several classes on learning how to write. Smearing, writing without factchecking, and reporting only one side of a story will be covered. A donation to pay their taxes will be accepted and she will be signing copies of their former federal tax liens. Ms. Ladd will give a dramatic reading of her two award-winning essays (They received The Jackson Free Press "Best Of" awards.) "Why everything is always about me" and "Why I cover murders better than anyone else in Jackson".

In the spirit of helping those who are less fortunate, Trollfest '09 adopts a cause for which a portion of the proceeds and donations will be donated: Keeping Frank Melton in his home. The “Keep Frank Melton From Being Homeless” booth will sell chances for five dollars to pin the tail on the jackass. John Reeves has graciously volunteered to be the jackass for this honorable excursion into saving Frank's ass. What's an ass between two friends after all? If Mr. Reeves is unable to um, perform, Speaker Billy McCoy has also volunteered as when the word “jackass” was mentioned he immediately ran as fast as he could to sign up.

In order to help clean up the legal profession, Adam Kilgore of the Mississippi Bar will be giving away free, round-trip plane tickets to the North Pole where they keep their bar complaint forms (which are NOT available online). If you don't want to go to the North Pole, you can enjoy Brant Brantley's (of the Mississippi Commission on Judicial Performance) free guided tours of the quicksand field over by High Street where all complaints against judges disappear. If for some reason you are unable to control yourself, never fear; Judge Houston Patton will operate his jail where no lawyers are needed or allowed as you just sit there for minutes... hours.... months...years until he decides he is tired of you sitting in his jail. Do not think Judge Patton is a bad judge however as he plans to serve free Mad Dog 20/20 to all inmates.

Trollfest '09 is a pet-friendly event as well. Feel free to bring your dog with you and do not worry if your pet gets hungry, as employees of the Jackson Zoo will be on hand to provide some of their animals as food when it gets to be feeding time for your little loved one.

Relax at the Fox News Tent. Since there are only three blonde reporters in Jackson (being blonde is a requirement for working at Fox News), Megan and Kathryn from WAPT and Wendy from WLBT will be on loan to Fox. To gain admittance to the VIP section, bring either your Republican Party ID card or a Rebel Flag. Bringing both and a torn-up Obama yard sign will entitle you to free drinks served by Megan, Wendy, and Kathryn. Get your tickets now. Since this is an event for trolls, no ID is required. Just bring the hate. Bring the family, Trollfest '09 is for EVERYONE!!!

This is definitely a Beaver production.

Dr. Heddy Matthias and Lori Gregory will face off in the undercard dueling with dangling participles and other um, devices.
