george bush airport? probably has connections to spirit airlines AND frontier....
southwest flies out of hobby--hes not getting them back...
Seems like they could have done worse.
How long before the SOS or AG bring this to an abrupt halt due to open meeting violations? Ethics commission anyone?
Let's see. What is wrong with this picture? Barely 28 months ago Carl Newman is named the GM of Bush Intercontinental in Houston. Now, a short time later, Newman signs on to move down to Jackson, MS? Mighty odd career move.
The reasons for his sudden flight from Houston may be as significant and the reason for his hiring here. At least his skin color is the correct one.
My only hope is that he'll calm the rude jack-booted thugs AKA Airport Police.
2:06, the Secretary of State and AG have nothing to do with enforcing the open meetings act. The Ethics Commissions reviews violations of the open meetings act, but you'd be hard-pressed to find any violations regarding the deliberations of the hiring process. I'm sure you will see an official vote to hire in an upcoming public meeting.
I'll confirm the obvious for the oppressed white male crowd: He's black!
He has experience running a much larger airport and is pretty high up in the American Association Airport Executives, which means he should have extensive industry connections. Sounds like a solid pick.
3:16 - Chris Epps was President (more than 'pretty high up') of both the national associations related to Corrections, and reelected as such. Results there wouldn't let your 'assumption' hold up.
Not saying that this is a good hire or bad - just want more analysis than this.
Does he think he is at the Hartsfield–Jackson International Airport?

I agree - that is a MASSIVE airport - why would he leave to come to this tiny place?
Doesn't seem like too bad of a pick. Assuming this guy is the same one suggested by the headhunting firm.
Have seen this sort of jump before. Wouldn't be surprised to learn that Newman was about to get pushed out of his job in Houston.
2:33 PM and 4:00 PM are right. IAH is a Top 10, Top 15 airport. This hire doesn't pass the smell test.
He hasn't assumed the job yet. I'm sure they will have a board meeting and vote out in the open before he does.
He was a finalist for other jobs, including NOLA. I think this is a guy who like a long-time assistant coach, wants to be the CEO of an airport.
What bothers me is that he is only a few years away from retirement.

3:51. Right! He will land here and say- hey what's this place? A connection from IAH to ATL. I was named director of this place?
Do blacks ever hire whites? Just curious.

If he was any damn good, Jackson would not have hired him! They only hire people that take them farther down the tubes with the rest of the "hell hole"!!!! Next step will be to close the airport - Might as well do it now!!!!
2:40 PM you are correct about our airport "police". As I walked from the airport to the parking lot last night the hollering and jiving of the many "guards" drowned out the airplane traffic. Totally unprofessional.

Funny!
Judging only from his resume', doesn't it appear that Jackson International is a step in the wrong step of professional laddering?
