The Washington *#$% published an excellent story on how the Republicans took the Senate. There is even a blurb on the McDaniel-Cochran race. Long read but worth it for the polijunkies.
One night in early September, Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell called a longtime colleague, Sen. Pat Roberts, from his living room in Louisville, furious about the 78-year-old Republican’s fumbling and lethargic reelection campaign.
Roberts had raised a paltry $62,000 in August. He was airing no ads. His campaign staff, mostly college students, had gone back to school. Most worrisome, McConnell had in his hands a private polling memo predicting Roberts would lose in Kansas — an alarming possibility that could cost the GOP a Senate majority.
McConnell was blunt. A shake-up was needed. Roberts unleashed a flurry of expletives at McConnell. Ultimately, though, the ex-Marine gave in. The next day, he led campaign manager Leroy Towns, 70, a retired college professor and confidant, into a Topeka conference room and fired him. ....
While Republicans were moving to address their problems, Democrats were trying to overcome problems of their own — including difficulties with a White House suspicious of their leadership and protective of the president’s reputation, his political network and his biggest donors.
After years of tension between President Obama and his former Senate colleagues, trust between Democrats at both ends of Pennsylvania Avenue had eroded.....
From the outset of the campaign, Republicans had a simple plan: Don’t make mistakes, and make it all about Obama, Obama, Obama. Every new White House crisis would bring a new Republican ad. And every Democratic incumbent would be attacked relentlessly for voting with the president 97 or 98 or 99 percent of the time.
But none of that would work if Republicans did not get the right candidates, a basic tenet that had eluded them in recent elections. This time, party officials pushed bad candidates out, recruited and coached contenders with broad appeal and resuscitated two flailing incumbents, Roberts and Sen. Thad Cochran of Mississippi. ...
Minutes after landing at Reagan National Airport one day early this year, many GOP Senate hopefuls found themselves besieged at baggage claim by people with cameras yelling questions at them about abortion and rape.
This was no impromptu news conference but rather Republican staffers in disguise, trying to shock the candidates into realizing the intensity of what lay before them. .....
In New Hampshire, Scott Brown, the former senator from neighboring Massachusetts, waffled about taking on Sen. Jeanne Shaheen (D). Brown said he would pull the trigger only if the party met an eight-point list of demands that included not allowing another government shutdown or a loose-cannon conservative like Akin to become the nominee in another state. Party operatives assured him they would do their best, and Brown was in.
But just such a candidate was on the rise down in Mississippi....Read the rest of the story about the McDaniel-Cochran race.

Finally voters woke up and said "No more." ROLL TIDE
Expanding the numbers in the senate with nail biters races is a recipe for moving the party's agenda, not America's agenda.
When Democrats win with these are any kind of margins. They govern like they have a mandate regardless without compromise dripping on their lips.
What's the 1st thing out Republicans mouth...compromise.
Barack is not going to compromise. He's going to return their overtures into Republican capitulation and make fools out of em.
The Republicans already took all their hammers off the table that might corral this man. They have not changed the players who made that idiotic decision so why expect anything to change?
Write it blood!
War Eagle!
I agree. No more roll tide. GEAUX TIGERS
Actually, Obama is a natural deal-maker and will be very likely to find areas of compromise with Reupublicans if there are such areas. The obstructionist is Harry Reid but he is gone now. This doesnt mean Obama will not move forward with his liberal agenda items that cant be passed thru the Congress, nor does it mean that the new COngress will not investigate the Obama Admin's past indescretions.
This article and the results last night show that the tea party has one major problem, the GOP. They were the Ross Perot voters in 1992 and gave us Bill Clinton with 20 million votes cast for that midget. Time to put these crazies back in the back in the (Alice in Chains) box and only bring them out at election time, holidays and special occasions like Halloween, birthday's and Bat Mitzvah's
Hobby Lobby!
After reading Mr. Childers concession speech I thought of the contrast of him to McDaniel who (and still is)is one who acts as a 2 year old throwing a temper tantrum.
What is the "Washington *#$%"?
Obama's a deal maker? Whatever you say Sparky.
Watched Obie's news conference and he just told McConnell and Boehner "Yowsa."
Seems to me like Obama just drew a bunch of lines in the sand at his presser & said in essence he would be happy to work with Repubs on things that are near and dear to him, but he will veto anything else. Also separate news reports indicate that Obama has placed the blame on the losses squarely on everyone in the Senate for not running on his coattails, which he thinks are still massive & long. Obama doesn't realize that he is the best thing to happen to the GOP in 50 years

Is that the same Brewster that was in the Hinds County Court house deal regarding the McDaniel vote count?
When, in any country, has the control of every branch of government been anything but disastrous in the end?
Yet, that seems to be the objective for those who are party loyalists these days.
It was a two party system and a balance of powers that worked.
Between elections, those elected worked on the business of government.
There is no " between elections" any more.
File this under " be careful what you wish for".
Looks like you've got a spammer here KF trying to draw hits over to their joint.
