Will she or won't she?

Jackson City Councilwoman Margaret Barrett-Simon posted this message on Facebook a few hours ago:

In this time of grieving for Mayor Lumumba, we also find ourselves in a moment of contemplation about the future of our beloved city.

I want to thank each of you for the support and encouragement I have received. Out of respect for the Mayor's loved ones, I have chosen to wait until the end of this week to make any decisions about the special election. I am currently discussing my plans with my family and friends.

Thanks to each and every one of you for making Jackson such a wonderful city with a future that promises to be even better!

Last year, majority-black Greenwood elected a white female Mayor over the sitting black Mayor. The same thing almost happened in Hattiesburg. There might be 10+ candidates in this race, so there is no telling who will make the run-off. It's unlikely, but anything could happen.

why not - she has always wanted to be black!

No run-offs in special elections. Majority vote wins.

Wrong. There is no primary. But there will be a runoff if 50% majority is not reached.

2:26, please see Miss. Code Ann. § 23-15-857, which reads in part:

"The candidate receiving a majority of the votes cast in said election shall be elected. If no candidate shall receive a majority vote at the election, the two (2) candidates receiving the highest number of votes shall have their names placed on the ballot for the election to be held two (2) weeks thereafter. The candidate receiving a majority of the votes cast in said election shall be elected. However, if no candidate shall receive a majority and there is a tie in the election of those receiving the next highest vote, those receiving the next highest vote and the candidate receiving the highest vote shall have their names placed on the ballot for the election to be held two (2) weeks thereafter, and whoever receives the most votes cast in such election shall be elected."

1:51…

WRONG. Hattiesburg DID elect a white mayor fair and square only to have their crooked thief of an ex mayor steal, lie, fix, and manipulate the results to where he won. He should be in jail.

There will definitely be a runoff unless one candidate gets 50% in the first round.

Margaret Barrett Simon has a strong and organized following that crosses racial lines. If she qualifies, she will be one of those in the runoff.

Harvey Johnson also has an organized following, although it is diminished of late. However, with the number of other African American candidates such as Horhn, Yarber, Preister and maybe Chokwe Jr and Quinn, it may be that Johnson's following proves still big enough to put him in the runoff. The short election time and the need to raise serious funds quickly favors Harvey.

If this happens, it will be interesting to see whether the city's African American community would rather have a tired and discredited black mayor in Johnson or let a white finish out the remaining three years of the Chokwe administration.

It will be fun to watch.

Hunger Games approach would be fun to watch.
Pretty sure I'm voting for Quinn.

2:52, take that up with Delbert. He signed the certificate.

I know that Margaret Barrett Simon has to be politically correct but " such a wonderful city with a future that promises to be even better". Please, REALLY?????
I grew up in Jackson may years ago and spent a great many years in volunteer service to Jackson and the surrounding areas. There are no words to describe the condition of city government and the city itself is extremely sad and dangerous. There needs to be a complete turn around in leadership on every level in every department. People need to be accountable for the job they hold. We have already seen postitive changes in Hinds County government thanks to new leadership that has the fortitude and morality to stand up and do what is right for all citizens and be accountable.
Jackson could truely be a great city with a future that is even better, but until someone deals with reality and tries to do things because it is the right thing to do,and not to further their career, we can only pray that things will not decline any further.

Greenwood, Grenville, and Indianola all have white mayors. Heck, so does Detroit. Jackson isn't like any of those cities. I do not see how you combine the black political structure in Jackson with the low information voter- regardless of who the white candidate is and how close they are to the black community- and get a majority.

I Hope She Does!!!

Margaret sounds as though she is heavily burdened with white guilt.

3:34, I think the Gov signs the certificate, not Dilbert. But Dilbert did help Dupree steal the election, so it would be appropriate for him to have signed it - after all, he believes he should be in charge of everything.

Carolyn McAdams, the mayor of Greenwood, kept her seat as mayor in last year's election. She was the incumbent.

Bennie was offering dollars to get a white in the race, so that 'his boy' - the first Junior - wouldn't get beat out of runoff by NE vote. Wonder if she is negotiating the amount?

Anonymous said...

Watch out for Ben Allen. He is the next "inner".

Anonymous said...

8:28 I hope so. What a bunch of question marks so far. Who here has run a business besides Allen. WHO?

Anonymous said...

Well. Is she or isn't she? Does anyone know yet?

Anonymous said...

My money says no. She can't really want the job.

With all of the Bro's in the race....8 now...., she is IN a runoff if she does.

Shit she has prided herself on being a reverse oreo forever. Might just pay off. I don't think the "vile machine" will turn on her like it always does to black dudes who are accepted by white people in elections.

Crazy how paranoid black posters over here are. They are so obvious. So afraid of 18% of the population. Read that again.

My black brothers. You are 82% of the population. 82%. EIGHTY TWO PERCENT.

Get your act together, get your "power brokers" together (you fear the 18% have "power brokers" that can make our black brothers do things they don't want to), quit fighting among yourselves in tribal type, vicious, vile warfare and run the damn city. YOU ARE IN POWER. DEAL WITH IT.

In four words: Man Up. Grow Up.

It is the end of the week almost. Any word? Just say YES.

Trollfest '09

Trollfest '07 was such a success that Jackson Jambalaya will once again host Trollfest '09. Catch this great event which will leave NE Jackson & Fondren in flames. Othor Cain and his band, The Black Power Structure headline the night while Sonjay Poontang returns for an encore performance. Former Frank Melton bodyguard Marcus Wright makes his premier appearance at Trollfest singing "I'm a Sweet Transvestite" from "The Rocky Horror Picture Show." Kamikaze will sing his new hit, “How I sold out to da Man.” Robbie Bell again performs: “Mamas, don't let your babies grow up to be Bells” and “Any friend of Ed Peters is a friend of mine”. After the show, Ms. Bell will autograph copies of her mug shot photos. In a salute to “Dancing with the Stars”, Ms. Bell and Hinds County District Attorney Robert Smith will dance the Wango Tango.

Wrestling returns, except this time it will be a Battle Royal with Othor Cain, Ben Allen, Kim Wade, Haley Fisackerly, Alan Lange, and “Big Cat” Donna Ladd all in the ring at the same time. The Battle Royal will be in a steel cage, no time limit, no referee, and the losers must leave town. Marshand Crisler will be the honorary referee (as it gives him a title without actually having to do anything).

Meet KIM Waaaaaade at the Entergy Tent. For five pesos, Kim will sell you a chance to win a deed to a crack house on Ridgeway Street stuffed in the Howard Industries pinata. Don't worry if the pinata is beaten to shreds, as Mr. Wade has Jose, Emmanuel, and Carlos, all illegal immigrants, available as replacements for the it. Upon leaving the Entergy tent, fig leaves will be available in case Entergy literally takes everything you have as part of its Trollfest ticket price adjustment charge.

Donna Ladd of The Jackson Free Press will give several classes on learning how to write. Smearing, writing without factchecking, and reporting only one side of a story will be covered. A donation to pay their taxes will be accepted and she will be signing copies of their former federal tax liens. Ms. Ladd will give a dramatic reading of her two award-winning essays (They received The Jackson Free Press "Best Of" awards.) "Why everything is always about me" and "Why I cover murders better than anyone else in Jackson".

In the spirit of helping those who are less fortunate, Trollfest '09 adopts a cause for which a portion of the proceeds and donations will be donated: Keeping Frank Melton in his home. The “Keep Frank Melton From Being Homeless” booth will sell chances for five dollars to pin the tail on the jackass. John Reeves has graciously volunteered to be the jackass for this honorable excursion into saving Frank's ass. What's an ass between two friends after all? If Mr. Reeves is unable to um, perform, Speaker Billy McCoy has also volunteered as when the word “jackass” was mentioned he immediately ran as fast as he could to sign up.

In order to help clean up the legal profession, Adam Kilgore of the Mississippi Bar will be giving away free, round-trip plane tickets to the North Pole where they keep their bar complaint forms (which are NOT available online). If you don't want to go to the North Pole, you can enjoy Brant Brantley's (of the Mississippi Commission on Judicial Performance) free guided tours of the quicksand field over by High Street where all complaints against judges disappear. If for some reason you are unable to control yourself, never fear; Judge Houston Patton will operate his jail where no lawyers are needed or allowed as you just sit there for minutes... hours.... months...years until he decides he is tired of you sitting in his jail. Do not think Judge Patton is a bad judge however as he plans to serve free Mad Dog 20/20 to all inmates.

Trollfest '09 is a pet-friendly event as well. Feel free to bring your dog with you and do not worry if your pet gets hungry, as employees of the Jackson Zoo will be on hand to provide some of their animals as food when it gets to be feeding time for your little loved one.

Relax at the Fox News Tent. Since there are only three blonde reporters in Jackson (being blonde is a requirement for working at Fox News), Megan and Kathryn from WAPT and Wendy from WLBT will be on loan to Fox. To gain admittance to the VIP section, bring either your Republican Party ID card or a Rebel Flag. Bringing both and a torn-up Obama yard sign will entitle you to free drinks served by Megan, Wendy, and Kathryn. Get your tickets now. Since this is an event for trolls, no ID is required. Just bring the hate. Bring the family, Trollfest '09 is for EVERYONE!!!

This is definitely a Beaver production.
