Vote in new poll

Instead of asking who you will support for Mayor, JJ decided to flip the typical poll question to something different: Who is least likely to get your vote for Mayor?  In other words, which candidate do you dislike the most. Time to shake things up and have some fun.

Two things are fairly clear--Yarber and Priester are the tallest midgets in this field of "candidates" AND the support of MBS by the dingbats of NE Jackson WILL Ascrew up the inside of an anvil!!

Hopefully the NEJ folks will realize a vote for MBS is a completely wasted vote. She has no prayer to win. Not to mention she seems very unqualified.

can't believe how pitiful MBS was last night. Her 29 years of experience only showed to me that it is truly past time for her to retire. Period. She's a sweet lady and all that, but it was painful and embarassing to listen to her. While she might be loved by the NE jackson folks, I think last night had to have deflated her chances dramatically. She just looked and sounded like she was lost, totally uninformed and without any platform or agenda to move Jackson forward.

Harvey wasn't much better. They both showed me it was time for them to retire, go home and let a younger generation have a shot of providing some leadership.

For all the woe being heaped upon MBS it is clear that she is also feared in this election.

Watch MBS (lack of) numbers in NEJ. Watch. Split up all over the place.

Anonymous said...

She isn't feared in the least bit (to win). She has zero chance. It's feared that her being in the race will screw it up for the qualified candidates who actually have a shot of winning/getting in the runoff.

Anonymous said...

just curious....exactly WHO are the "qualified candidates" in this race? it looks to me to be more like voting for the lesser of 13 evils?

Anonymous said...

for WHATEVER REASON it's pretty clear that Yarber is THE threat to Massa Bennie--if he can get past MBS splitting the NEJ vote and get in the run-off-----he wins

Antar and Yarber in the runoff, Antar wins, the dream lives on!!!

Anonymous said...

Who is Jeff Good supporting?

Anonymous said...

That "dream" is actually a nightmare, but no one will know it is a nightmare until they wake up from the "dream."
Have you ever heard of GAMAL? Probably not. It is an acronym for Georgia Arkansas Mississippi Alabama and Louisiana.
GAMAL is the focus and "dream" of the Republic of New Africa and we know what their long-term goal is...by any means necessary.

Excerpt from: http://www.vdare.com/articles/republic-of-new-afrika-arrives-in-jackson-misssissippi

"On July 1, Chokwe Lumumba, an attorney with a long record of black radical activism, took office as mayor of Jackson. His inauguration took place in the gleaming convention center that sprang up four years ago in the state capital’s mostly deserted downtown.

A crowd of 2,500 packed the hall. The city councilors and other dignitaries, most of them African-American — Jackson, a city of 177,000, is 80 percent black — sat on the dais. The local congressman, Bennie Thompson, officiated. The outgoing mayor, Harvey Johnson, the city's first Chokwe Lumumba as Mayor.black mayor, wished his successor well. The Mississippi Mass Choir gave a jubilant performance of “When I Rose This Morning.”

Finally, Lumumba, 66, approached the podium, pulling the microphone up to suit his tall, lean frame. “Well,” he said, “I want to say, God is good, all the time.”

The crowd replied. “God is good, all the time!”

“I want to say hey! And hello!”

The crowd called back, “Hey! Hello!”

Then Lumumba smiled and raised his right hand halfway, just a little above the podium, briefly showing the clenched fist of a Black Power salute.

“And I want to say, free the land!”

Applause rang out, bells chimed, wooden staffs rose up and people shouted back, “Free the land!” That’s the motto of the Republic of New Afrika (RNA), the movement formed in 1968 that sought to turn the states of Louisiana, Mississippi, Alabama, Georgia and South Carolina into an independent black nation."

Lot of talk about the NEJ vote. But I'm not sure how one determines the size of the NEJ vote, and its effect on the election. But, a few demographic factors are known to help estimate: 1) very few black families live in NEJ; and 2) of the Jackson population of 175,000, 80% (140,000) is black, and 20% (35,000) is not black. So, the NEJ vote can be no larger than 35,000. The question then, is how many of those 35,000 people comprise the NEJ vote? Even if it's the entire 35,000, I'm not sure it's enough to decide the election for any one candidate, "even if" NEJ voted as a block.

NE Jackson is probably 50/50 now. You have Casey, St. Phillips, Ascension, Willie Morris, and Spann that are predominantly white.

Then you get to McCloud, New Jerusalem, and Ridgewood Firestation: Black. Go to Christ United Methodist: probably 60/40 white.

Obviously I am not counting Fondren and Belhaven precincts in that comment.

Yarber's reported response to fighting crime in west and south Jackson is to appoint municipal judges who will keep people in jail....apparently he does not know that state law (including a very much in the news new Criminal Justice Reform bill that should go into effect July 1) makes his solution illegal....perhaps he should also consult the US Constitution before saying his solution is potentially illegal action that will cost taxpayers even more to fix....just another politician saying what he thinks people want to hear even though it can't be done ?

Kingfish, according to a website, http://www.city-data.com/zips/39211.html, the population for the whole 39211 zip code is just over 24,000 people. The 39211 zip code is bounded on the north by County Line Rd., to the west by I-55, to the south by Lakeland Dr., and to the east by the river. That's what most people mean by NEJ. The 24,000 is only about 13% of the Jackson population, much less than the total 20% thought possible in the earlier post. And, according to the website, the demographic distribution for the 24,000 people in 39211 is as follows:

White population: 13,874
Black population: 9,249
American Indian population: 33
Asian population: 257
Native Hawaiian and Other Pacific Islander population: 3
Some other race population: 11
Two or more races population: 172
Hispanic or Latino population: 916

How many people voted in the last mayoral election? At the time, I remember thinking the numbers were really low. Assuming NE Jackson votes at a higher rate, then they do have a bigger impact than the straight numbers suggest.

I like what yarber said about criminals and jail time. He is not a lawyer and does not know what may not be a legal solution to address the problem, but he is try to think of ways to combat a big problem.

The 39211 zip code is bounded on the north by County Line Rd. ....

Good LORD save us from lamebrains posting the already well-known stats.

I think you need an intelligence litmus test KF before some of these numbskulls are allowed to comment.

One candidate is running from Ward 6. Five are running from Ward 2. Advantage....YARBER.

Anonymous said...

Yarber will do better in Ward 1 than in his home ward.

Anonymous said...

Proof 9:02. Why would you say that? Back it up.

Anonymous said...

5:46, that's a good observation. Seems like the voting turnout overall for the City was low for the last election. Wonder how the percentage of NEJ voters compares to the rest of the city. Guess you'd have to determine how many people voted last time in those precincts which fall in that 39211 zip described above (County Line Rd., I-55, Lakeland Dr.), and then divide that number by the 24,000 total residents in that NEJ zip to get a percentage of those who voted in NEJ.

This unscientific polls shows that merely 3% of the Jambalaya readers are likely not to vote for Yarber. For the sake of argument, we will assume that those participating in the poll reside in Jackson. We will further assume they are mostly Ward 1 voters.

It is very unlikely that Yarber will get this level of support from the residents of his ward. Many of his constituents don't hold in nearly as high esteem as do the Ward 1 residents.

I understand that Bennie Thompson is going to endorse Priester jr today. I'm sure when that happens you will see a large increase in the number of voters in the poll saying they are least likely to vote for Priester.

Apparently Priester is not nearly as smart as he purports to be; otherwise he never would have allowed Bennie Thompson to endorse him! SMH

Trollfest '09

Trollfest '07 was such a success that Jackson Jambalaya will once again host Trollfest '09. Catch this great event which will leave NE Jackson & Fondren in flames. Othor Cain and his band, The Black Power Structure headline the night while Sonjay Poontang returns for an encore performance. Former Frank Melton bodyguard Marcus Wright makes his premier appearance at Trollfest singing "I'm a Sweet Transvestite" from "The Rocky Horror Picture Show." Kamikaze will sing his new hit, “How I sold out to da Man.” Robbie Bell again performs: “Mamas, don't let your babies grow up to be Bells” and “Any friend of Ed Peters is a friend of mine”. After the show, Ms. Bell will autograph copies of her mug shot photos. In a salute to “Dancing with the Stars”, Ms. Bell and Hinds County District Attorney Robert Smith will dance the Wango Tango.

Wrestling returns, except this time it will be a Battle Royal with Othor Cain, Ben Allen, Kim Wade, Haley Fisackerly, Alan Lange, and “Big Cat” Donna Ladd all in the ring at the same time. The Battle Royal will be in a steel cage, no time limit, no referee, and the losers must leave town. Marshand Crisler will be the honorary referee (as it gives him a title without actually having to do anything).

Meet KIM Waaaaaade at the Entergy Tent. For five pesos, Kim will sell you a chance to win a deed to a crack house on Ridgeway Street stuffed in the Howard Industries pinata. Don't worry if the pinata is beaten to shreds, as Mr. Wade has Jose, Emmanuel, and Carlos, all illegal immigrants, available as replacements for the it. Upon leaving the Entergy tent, fig leaves will be available in case Entergy literally takes everything you have as part of its Trollfest ticket price adjustment charge.

Donna Ladd of The Jackson Free Press will give several classes on learning how to write. Smearing, writing without factchecking, and reporting only one side of a story will be covered. A donation to pay their taxes will be accepted and she will be signing copies of their former federal tax liens. Ms. Ladd will give a dramatic reading of her two award-winning essays (They received The Jackson Free Press "Best Of" awards.) "Why everything is always about me" and "Why I cover murders better than anyone else in Jackson".

In the spirit of helping those who are less fortunate, Trollfest '09 adopts a cause for which a portion of the proceeds and donations will be donated: Keeping Frank Melton in his home. The “Keep Frank Melton From Being Homeless” booth will sell chances for five dollars to pin the tail on the jackass. John Reeves has graciously volunteered to be the jackass for this honorable excursion into saving Frank's ass. What's an ass between two friends after all? If Mr. Reeves is unable to um, perform, Speaker Billy McCoy has also volunteered as when the word “jackass” was mentioned he immediately ran as fast as he could to sign up.

In order to help clean up the legal profession, Adam Kilgore of the Mississippi Bar will be giving away free, round-trip plane tickets to the North Pole where they keep their bar complaint forms (which are NOT available online). If you don't want to go to the North Pole, you can enjoy Brant Brantley's (of the Mississippi Commission on Judicial Performance) free guided tours of the quicksand field over by High Street where all complaints against judges disappear. If for some reason you are unable to control yourself, never fear; Judge Houston Patton will operate his jail where no lawyers are needed or allowed as you just sit there for minutes... hours.... months...years until he decides he is tired of you sitting in his jail. Do not think Judge Patton is a bad judge however as he plans to serve free Mad Dog 20/20 to all inmates.

Trollfest '09 is a pet-friendly event as well. Feel free to bring your dog with you and do not worry if your pet gets hungry, as employees of the Jackson Zoo will be on hand to provide some of their animals as food when it gets to be feeding time for your little loved one.

Relax at the Fox News Tent. Since there are only three blonde reporters in Jackson (being blonde is a requirement for working at Fox News), Megan and Kathryn from WAPT and Wendy from WLBT will be on loan to Fox. To gain admittance to the VIP section, bring either your Republican Party ID card or a Rebel Flag. Bringing both and a torn-up Obama yard sign will entitle you to free drinks served by Megan, Wendy, and Kathryn. Get your tickets now. Since this is an event for trolls, no ID is required. Just bring the hate. Bring the family, Trollfest '09 is for EVERYONE!!!

This is definitely a Beaver production.
