I am about to write my post about the Blue Cross hearing in federal court Friday but thought I would go ahead and pass along a little gem to the readers.
How many times has Governor Phil Bryant said he opposed Obamacare? Let us count the ways:
Today’s decision by the U.S. Supreme Court to uphold ObamaCare and its individual mandate is alarming. It is a stunning expansion of federal power and an assault on the liberty of American citizens. That is exactly why I personally filed a legal challenge to ObamaCare in 2011 and why we joined the multi-state lawsuit on which the Supreme Court ruled today....Here is another little quote from a lawsuit filed by then-Leftenant Governor Phil Bryant seeking to stop Obamacare:
Many of us hoped ObamaCare would fall today by a vote of the Supreme Court.. Governor Bryant press release issued on June 28, 2012.
Instead, it does what Congress has never before dared to do B it mandates that individuals affirmatively engage in economic activity where they might otherwise choose not to. If the individual mandate of the PPACA is allowed to stand, it will open the door to a sweeping expansion of federal power. In the future, Congress will not only be able to dictate the terms under which individuals purchase health insurance or health care services, but also details of a patient=s care, including preventative health procedures such as regular exercise and vitamin supplements. If Congress can compel one sort of economic activity that is seen as desirable for the public good, why not another? Ultimately, if Congress were deemed to have Constitutional power to compel the purchase of goods and services, there could be no principled limit to such a power. So everyone gets it now: Governor Phil Bryant has made much political hay out of opposing the individual mandate in Obamacare. Forcing people to purchase health insurance. Forcing people to contract.
Blue Cross argues the Governor's executive order forces the company to contract with HMA. Said so numerous times in court Friday. How did Governor Bryant respond in front of Judge Henry Wingate? AG lawyer Harold Pizetta said the Supreme Court already dealt with this issue in the ruling on Obamacare. He said the AFCA ruling "allows government to order individuals to contract." Yup. He further added the ruling allowed the government to ban exclusions for pre-existing conditions. He was not ambiguous. Made it very clear the Obamacare ruling gave the government the power to order contracts take place.
So while the Governor panders to conservative voters in Mississippi about fighting Obamacare, his lawyers are using Obamacare rulings to justify his executive order. Maybe KIM Waaaade is right. When push comes to shove, they are indeed all alike. The Governor is apparently against Obamacare until using Obamacare suits his purpose.

fwiw and imo, i think he's trying to kill it with whatever weapon he can find...and there is NO DOUBT that obama-care is the most formidable weapon the USA has ever used against itself in its rush to extinction!
Good to see that y'all are finally figuring-out that Phil Bryant is a fake conservative. Takes most around here a few years to really figure something out I guess. I bet 'ol Phil stays far, far away from the Tea party from now on also, especially since they are the biggest supporters to date of the McDaniels crusade to be Mississippi's next US Senator.
It's no surprise that the end justifies the means for a politician.
What is a surprise is so many voters who profess to be Christians don't understand that it's impossible to live as a Christian and embrace that philosophy.
So, when a politician claims to be a Christian and does as the Gov. has done, he is sinning in public as surely as he would be if committing adultery or murder.
That a Mississippi politician would want to continue to have the government and the insured pay for the uninsured rather than to force employers to create insurance pools is hardly shocking.
Employers who don't want to pay will donate to his campaign and the uninsured who don't want to pay will vote for him as well. The latter is happy to have the rest of us foot their bill while they pretend they aren't like those on Medicaid.
The uninsured want me to pay for their families when they are sick in higher medical costs and insurance costs so they can spend their money on beer, hunting equipment and going to NASCAR races.
And, of course, they don't care if even after paying, we get denied coverage.
I don't like Obamacare either. But, I sure as hell don't like the pre-ACA system either. And, I'm mad as hell that rather than try to solve healthcare system problems ( which has been killing the budget and our economy), the anti-anything Obama/Democrat crowd used the Act as a poltical tool and scare tactic rather than offer up solutions!
Way to go fanatics!
And, I am still ROFL that our resident fanatic, Paul Mitchell, apparently wasn't adequately insured or else he wouldn't be having to search the website for alternatives!
I have good coverage and nothing is changing except for the better! But, then my employer is not based in MS so I had a good deal to start!
And, IMHO, as long as we blindly blame all our problems on the other race rather than entertain the notion that there are other reasons we're on the damn bottom all the time, we'll continue to be duped by every lame politician with a lunch box or fancy boots or beer gut!
Good for the Governor. He has accepted that despite his opposition to it, the Affordable Care Act is now the law of the land. He figures that since it is now the law, he may as well take advantage of it when he can. That's called being smart.
Too bad so many delusional Tea people want to keeping fighting a battle that they lost; you know, those "The South Will Rise Again" folks.
The gov had to address the issue...he is making private parties contract...good lawyering is all that is...will Wingate buy it? Who knows...
My bet is Wingate stays out if it...leave it up to MS Sup Court on proper appeal
And yes I stayed at a Holiday Inn last night...but not in Jackson..I'm alive right?

Under NMISSCOMMENTOR on this page, some lawyers opine on this issue. Interesting food for thought.
It did not take long (well, longer than it should)for some of you to see the light as to what kind of person and governor, Phil Bryant is turning out to be. Bryant doesn't give a tinker's damn if you or I or any citizen in this state has health insurance and what the cost is that we pay for it - just as long as he gets to ride a motorcycle, wear his cowboy boots and attend car shows at the taxpayers' expense, he is just fine; oh yes, and we are gullible enough to pay him a salary and allow him and his family to live in the mansion while he does all of this! It seems that the joke is on us (or the ones of you who voted for him). We will continue to have this type government in this state until we have said: Enough! You get this every time with the "good ole" boys - we stay on the bottom and they drive off into the sunset. Let's be smarter as a state when we elect the next governor - please let's try to find someone who is intelligent, has a head for business, projects a professional image for the state and truly is interested in making a difference!! Because right now all we have is a redneck who is taking our state in the same direction Obama is taking our country, "to hell in a handbasket"!!
2:51 makes some valid points, except I wouldn't compare Feel to Barack. Well, maybe, but in a different light. It's been the same forever, locally, statewide and nationally with the politicos. The power moves from generation to generation, with the same ole same ole. The parties/powers sponsor the candidate, and that's your choice of candidates, take it or leave it. Nationally it appears we will have a choice between Hillary, and as yet an unknown from the repulicrat ticket, as they fight among themselves. Christie appears to have the leverage and to me he leans to the left but will be characterized as a moderate. Unfortunately they're all trained on appealing to the uninformed or unintelligent voter. I would think that just about everyone should know what Hillary will bring to the table, and it would be more of Reed and Pelosi, along with embedding Obama's past. A disaster at best.
"there is NO DOUBT that obama-care is the most formidable weapon the USA has ever used against itself in its rush to extinction!"
LOL. Amen, Brother John Birch!

You pontificate a lot. Name names as to who you believe fits your model. Otherwise you are just more hot air.
5:09 I can think of several names who would fit this description. The first question is, would they want the job and the the second question is, do they want their names mentioned on this blog?
Holy Moley 10:58! Slam that Bible down and pass the tin cup! In amongst all that proseletizing, you failed to recite why you think employers should be made to provide insurance to its employees. Why not housing and transportation as well? In your ideal world, ACORN would make all employee selections and Amnesty International, instead of juries, would render verdicts. Do you fly a French flag from that Downtown Jackson loft apartment?

You ducked. You are a fraud.
Holey Moley 8:06 pm your mind is fascinating
How do you get that demanding ethical behavior, competence, problem solving, and a lack of hypocrisy from politicians along with expecting voters to wise up equates to flying a French flag in a Downtown loft etc.?
I don't guess you saw the retiring head of the CIA who has 33 years in job. He agrees with me that the greatest threat to our national security is the inability of our political partys to work together to solve problems and fix a weakening economy... Not Al Quaeda, not Hamas, not Russia, not China but oh...YOU! Because YOU are contributing to the idiotic fanaticism and stupid level of dialogue in our Nation.
And, IF it is true that neither party can find people who are smart and ethical to run for office, that they can no longer qualify people who are sane, then it's over and why do any of you expect anything from either party?
You've thrown in the towel.
You apparently don't think our country worth fighting to preserve.
How dare Phil Bryant use the Affordable Care Act to his political advantage. Doesn’t he know that Act was written by Democrats for Democrats? We liberals get to use its provisions (and make up provisions where the actual language of the Act is not helpful) but that in no way means a conservative (YUK!) has that right. Where in the charters of the United Nations, European Union or any other progressive international organization does Phil Bryant get that right? He doesn’t! It’s not in there!
Hands off Phil Bryant! The Affordable Care Act is not written with you (or any other conservative) in mind. Its provisions don’t mean what they say when it’s a conservative making the argument.
