Speed trap alert

Apparently Queen Mary's peeps set up a speed trap on Highland Colony. Going to Chang's and thinking about driving to Madison on Highland Colony Parkway? Slow down when you get to Madison. Madison dropped the speed limit to 35 mph when it repaved the Madison portion of the road. Naturally the poh-lice are hanging out right after the speed change waiting to get ya as happened to a friend of mine last week who thought it was still 40 mph.

Thanks for the heads up KF. BTW, its probably real old news, but these Flowood cops are wearing people out all over the place! I'm for low crime, but writing a bunch of speeding tickets just adds $$$$ to the city coffers....

When school starts again they'll move the speed trap back to Livingston Road. It's been there since Madison annexed it.

They also had an unmarked car with flashing blue lights on Highland Colony last night.

So whats new? Doesn't it make you want to move to Madison?

Did I miss where that area is having some serious accidents? If that is the case, the speed traps are justified. If there aren't any wrecks, then you have a revenue generator.

The City of Madison has no police, only Revenue Agents.

The speed limit change is clearly marked, almost overkill. Signs on both the left and right hand sides of the road. Plus orange signs all over the place. About to begin construction and school is starting back. Lots of runners from Madison Central on that stretch between the school and Cypress Lake subdivision.

Truth be told, they ought to slow the parkway down. Too many bicycles and joggers on the road.

Depends on which end you are coming from.

I drove both ways this afternoon. It was clearly marked, north and south, at 6:00pm.

If you friend got a ticket doing 5 over, tell them to go to court and let us know how it goes.

I heard Mother Mary is trying to keep people like this guy off the road! You can never be too careful.

LISTEN UP kf! THE ROAD IS BEING REPAIRED!!!!! THE SPEED LIMIT NEEDED TO BE LOWERED AS A TEMPORARY MEASURE. HEAVEN HELP US ALL IF YOU ARE BEING OUR LORD AND SAVIOR.

Kingfish said...

Road was repaired. Cop told her since they fixed the road, its been lowered and kept there.

Waaaaaaaaaa 9:56AM. Waaa. Wa. Sniff. Waaaaaaaaaaaa.

KF - I take it you haven't recently been to where you are talking about. The road isn't finished. Orange signs, with 35 mph posted, are everywhere.

I have aquestion related to this portion of the parkway. Every Sunday on the way to my church I must stop as directed by plain clothes persons directing traffic at the much Larger Red Brick Church here- in order for THEIR congregation to get in and out of the parking lot. Is this legal? These are not Madison police. Why can't these folks just wait like the congregation at other places of worship?

Anonymous said...

Only a police officer can legally direct traffic. Hinds SO does this at several churches in Jackson. Good politics, and I guess may save some accidents, too.

This is my surprise face.

I see you deleted my post. You have thin skin

Anonymous said...

Doubt he deleted it. It probably never posted. Sometimes blogger can be ticky. Post again.

PercyVere said...

It posted. I saw it appear and disappear. I gave him a manual on getting around safely in Madison since he seems to have a problem.

Don't speed
Don't run red lights
Don't run stop signs
Don't shoplift at Walmart
Don't come to the theater with your
underwear showing
Don't drive off without paying for gas
Don't speed through church zones.

If you do this, I will double dog guarantee you will have very little problems with Madison's finest. Kignfish seems to have a problem with Madison for some reason.

PercyVere said...

I forgot to warn him not to drink while driving.

PercyVere said...

KF implies that his friend was only going 5 miles over the limit. He was quite a bit over that speed.
He must be a Democrat revisionist.

Stand by for a delete anytime now.

Percy,

Did you bother to read the title? Get a life. If you want to be part of the community, the best way is to say your peace and get on with it. It was a warning. If you don't like it, speed with no care all you want through said area.

Note to the Kapt.
Highland Colony hardly qualifies as a "speed trap". Ray Charles and Stevie Wonder could see those big orange reflective signs. Anyone who would "speed with no care" through them is asking for a ticket.

Anonymous said...

I think Ray got a ticket. He told me that he could see the big orange "Bank Here" signs but had trouble making out the numbers.

Who paid for the repaving? Any State or Federal Funds involved? Who owns the road--the State, County, or local gov't? Was there a speed study performed to determine what the 85% limit is? Are there other circumstances, such as a school zone or a high accident location? Also, I am not completely familiar with the area, but according to the MUTCD, which is required for all entities receiving Federal Funds--speed limits can be reduced more than 10mph with in a certain distance. So, say if the speed limit just before this area is 50, and it dropped to 35 in too short of a distance, that would be against the regs--even if it is a construction zone. If the road is completed, just arbitrarily reducing the speed limit with no study and no written justification on how the decision was made--could be helpful in fighting it. Also, double fines in workzones only apply when workers are present.

Concerning directing traffic--If a person were to take a traffic control safety course, they might be allowed to do direct traffic by local jurisdiction. However, they MUST wear the neon green reflective vests that meet the requirements of the MUTCD. They must also have proper traffic control devices---also meeting the MUTCD.

I don't know enough about the area.. Just food for knowledge. I try to stay out of Madison County at all costs!

Good idea! Do all your eating and shopping somewhere other than Madison! Police stop you there for absolutely nothing! And if you go to court about it, you lose, court always sides with the cop! In Madison you are guilty until undoubtly proven innocent.

I do not blame the enforcement of the law in Madison, I look to the the legal community responsible for application of the law; and they are thick as thieves. I actually had a sergeant say while his phone was ringing off the hook for the SIXTH time that day, "you must have really pissed this guy off" as I was booked, after turning myself in, and then put through the humiliation of a court that "played along" with an accuser who (while sleeping with someone important during a divorce he MEDIATED) had a Prosecutor make the claim "he is a member of the Bar." QUOTING the Prosecutor in front of a sitting Judge. Thank God for honest attorneys who can protect you from this type of abuse. For all you attorneys out there that claim that KF is picking on you, I dare you to send him an email and be willing to do this PRO BONO because ethically, its just not right.

Trollfest '09

Trollfest '07 was such a success that Jackson Jambalaya will once again host Trollfest '09. Catch this great event which will leave NE Jackson & Fondren in flames. Othor Cain and his band, The Black Power Structure headline the night while Sonjay Poontang returns for an encore performance. Former Frank Melton bodyguard Marcus Wright makes his premier appearance at Trollfest singing "I'm a Sweet Transvestite" from "The Rocky Horror Picture Show." Kamikaze will sing his new hit, “How I sold out to da Man.” Robbie Bell again performs: “Mamas, don't let your babies grow up to be Bells” and “Any friend of Ed Peters is a friend of mine”. After the show, Ms. Bell will autograph copies of her mug shot photos. In a salute to “Dancing with the Stars”, Ms. Bell and Hinds County District Attorney Robert Smith will dance the Wango Tango.

Wrestling returns, except this time it will be a Battle Royal with Othor Cain, Ben Allen, Kim Wade, Haley Fisackerly, Alan Lange, and “Big Cat” Donna Ladd all in the ring at the same time. The Battle Royal will be in a steel cage, no time limit, no referee, and the losers must leave town. Marshand Crisler will be the honorary referee (as it gives him a title without actually having to do anything).

Meet KIM Waaaaaade at the Entergy Tent. For five pesos, Kim will sell you a chance to win a deed to a crack house on Ridgeway Street stuffed in the Howard Industries pinata. Don't worry if the pinata is beaten to shreds, as Mr. Wade has Jose, Emmanuel, and Carlos, all illegal immigrants, available as replacements for the it. Upon leaving the Entergy tent, fig leaves will be available in case Entergy literally takes everything you have as part of its Trollfest ticket price adjustment charge.

Donna Ladd of The Jackson Free Press will give several classes on learning how to write. Smearing, writing without factchecking, and reporting only one side of a story will be covered. A donation to pay their taxes will be accepted and she will be signing copies of their former federal tax liens. Ms. Ladd will give a dramatic reading of her two award-winning essays (They received The Jackson Free Press "Best Of" awards.) "Why everything is always about me" and "Why I cover murders better than anyone else in Jackson".

In the spirit of helping those who are less fortunate, Trollfest '09 adopts a cause for which a portion of the proceeds and donations will be donated: Keeping Frank Melton in his home. The “Keep Frank Melton From Being Homeless” booth will sell chances for five dollars to pin the tail on the jackass. John Reeves has graciously volunteered to be the jackass for this honorable excursion into saving Frank's ass. What's an ass between two friends after all? If Mr. Reeves is unable to um, perform, Speaker Billy McCoy has also volunteered as when the word “jackass” was mentioned he immediately ran as fast as he could to sign up.

In order to help clean up the legal profession, Adam Kilgore of the Mississippi Bar will be giving away free, round-trip plane tickets to the North Pole where they keep their bar complaint forms (which are NOT available online). If you don't want to go to the North Pole, you can enjoy Brant Brantley's (of the Mississippi Commission on Judicial Performance) free guided tours of the quicksand field over by High Street where all complaints against judges disappear. If for some reason you are unable to control yourself, never fear; Judge Houston Patton will operate his jail where no lawyers are needed or allowed as you just sit there for minutes... hours.... months...years until he decides he is tired of you sitting in his jail. Do not think Judge Patton is a bad judge however as he plans to serve free Mad Dog 20/20 to all inmates.

Trollfest '09 is a pet-friendly event as well. Feel free to bring your dog with you and do not worry if your pet gets hungry, as employees of the Jackson Zoo will be on hand to provide some of their animals as food when it gets to be feeding time for your little loved one.

Relax at the Fox News Tent. Since there are only three blonde reporters in Jackson (being blonde is a requirement for working at Fox News), Megan and Kathryn from WAPT and Wendy from WLBT will be on loan to Fox. To gain admittance to the VIP section, bring either your Republican Party ID card or a Rebel Flag. Bringing both and a torn-up Obama yard sign will entitle you to free drinks served by Megan, Wendy, and Kathryn. Get your tickets now. Since this is an event for trolls, no ID is required. Just bring the hate. Bring the family, Trollfest '09 is for EVERYONE!!!

This is definitely a Beaver production.
