Nope. They have to have a primary for the two Supervisor districts and then runoffs. THEN there will be a general election if there are candidates from the two parties. Nice.

The Mississippi Supreme Court appointed retired circuit judge William Coleman to preside over the challenge to the Hattiesburg Mayoral election filed by David Ware in Forrest County. Judge Coleman was last seen on this website as the subject of discussion in this video:

The Mississippi Secretary of State issued this statement yesterday on the Supreme Court ruling on the Voting Rights Act:

Readers will remember the controversy that arose when the Madison County Board of Supervisors voted to build a park up in Sulphur Springs. The park will cost over $1.5 million and will be financed by the sale of bonds. The Board waxed eloquently over how this would be a benefit to the taxpayers of Madison County and was a chance to do something for the more rural areas. JJ decided to give you a full picture, literally, of the park.

Shelby County, Alabama filed suit against the Justice Department seeking relief from Sections 4 and 5 of the Voting Rights Act. The Supreme Court held today that Section 4 is unconstitutional and can no longer be used "as a basis for subjecting jurisdictions to pre-clearance." The vote was 5-4. You can probably figure who was the five and who was the four.

Is there nothing Barbara Blackmon touches she doesn't corrupt or destroy? The Madison County Journal reports:

The David Ware campaign challenged the results of the Hattiesburg Mayoral election in Forrest and Lamar County Circuit Courts yesterday.  The campaign asked the courts to throw out all of the absentee ballots and declare Ware the winner. The campaign filed lawsuits alleging over half of the 581 absentee ballots cast were invalid but were commingled with the other ballots.  The complaints also allege over thirty ballots came from the jailhouse and several came from disenfranchised convicted felons. The Ware campaign also charges the Mayor's wife improperly delivered over thirty absentee ballots. Mayor Dupree won the election by a thirty-seven vote margin while winning 343 of the absentee ballots cast (59%). Mr. Dupree received 4,775 votes while Mr. Ware received 4,738. **

Attorney General Hood issued an opinion stating the Guvnah cannot operate Medicaid through executive order.  Governor Bryant's press secretary said thank ya much but that is just an opinion and you know what they say about opinions.  The opinion is posted below.  The Medicaid scrum continues.

Believe it or not, there is a mayor who is worse than William Truly or Frank Melton.  Meet the Mayor of Port Allen, Louisiana. She's only been in office a few months and is already breaking records in well, I'll let you figure it out.  Here is a thread on Tigerdroppings.com. New info is added throughout the pages and is worth reading.  Nothing like a minister who has an S class Benz for the home, runs a church out of the home, and then drives a 20 year old Honda to city hall so she can look like common folk.  Pour a drink and enjoy this thread.

Hinds County Youth Court Judge Bill Skinner blasted the state for cutbacks in funding for drug courts in an address to the Hinds County Board of Supervisors Monday. The board awarded $50,000 to the Hinds County Youth Drug Court to keep it operating for the rest of the fiscal year.
