Rankin County Sheriff Bryan Bailey issued the following statement.
The Rankin County Sheriff’s Office received a 911 call at 7:50 am in reference to a structure fire at 170 Bain Road, Puckett, MS. The caller stated the residence was on fire and a female victim was still inside the residence.
Fire personnel from Puckett, Cato and Walters Fire Departments responded to the scene along with Rankin County Deputies, Rankin EOC and Pafford Ambulance and were on scene within minutes.
First Responders were able to extinguish the fire and located an unresponsive female inside a bedroom of the residence. Despite the best efforts of first responders the female victim died at the scene.
Rankin County Coroner David Ruth responded to the scene and took custody of the victim’s body. Coroner Ruth will release the name of the victim once the proper notifications have been made.
Rankin County Sheriff’s Office Fire Investigators along with members of the State Fire Marshal’s Office responded to determine the cause of the fire.
Our prayers are with the family of the victim and the first responders who responded to this tragedy.
