The Jackson City Council announced it will hold a meeting of the Legislative Committee tomorrow to discuss the recently passed HB# 1677, otherwise known as the Jackson Metro Water authority bill.
Let the tantrums begin.

See y’all in 10 years after multiple trips to the 5th circuit.
Is there any possible reason, other than grift, that COJ is not happy that headache has been taken off their hands?
The way Rep Yates structured this (in her bowing to Mayor Hohrn's 'desires') all the Council has to do is not vote to approve a lease. Hopefully that's the attitude they will take in this meeting, deciding that they don't want to cede responsibility to an independent authority. Might lead to Tater deciding to veto bill, or else sign it but call a special session (as some of the legislative leaders are asking and have provided with their extension of the current session) to change the language in this bill to the city "shall" lease the facility, rather than the authority "can" do so.
This needs to be resolved. The City has no business attempting to operate the water/sewer system - hell, they can't even run the other parts of the city the way it was left for this administration by Lumumba. The smart folks in the city governing folks know that the best thing for the city would be to shed themselves of this albatros; problem is, a few of those smart folks can't afford the political pushback so they won't take that stance publically. They need to grow a set and stand up and speak ------ loudly, and acknowledge that this would be a benefit to the city. But just like the zoo, they don't have, (well, as I said above they need to grow them so obviously they don't presently have them, so I can skip it) the cojones to do what needs to be done. Maybe a trip to Cracker Barrell and getting some Powdermile Biscuits would help them out of this paradox (credit to Prarie Home Companion).
@4:52 the political headache the Sisters of Rukia will cause is one reason
Basically a Committee of One because beyond Foote the other three are functionally useless. Can you imagine either Pudgy or Parkinson making a big decision? LMAO
Hubris, power, ego.
Also known as the Grift Committee.
This is why the bill was needed in the first place. All these local Jackson leaders know how to do it argue, protest, and file lawsuits. Meanwhile, the city continues its decline into blight and decay.
Rep Yates lives in city of Jackson so does Delbert. They’re not going to screw the city. I think black leaders like to reign power rather than letting Yates or anyone else over see it, they don’t understand track record or accountability or consequences and yes I live in Jackson
So the people trust them to run the system. They could not run the system, so the feds get someone else to run it. Now that it is back to operating somewhat better they want to run it again. I guess Jackson's voters must enjoy having the city screwed up.
Cut a check for $700m to the feds and it’s yours back to destroy. Where is the check?
And these from people that can’t keep flamingos alive at the “zoo”.
Hiring insider law firms to pursue appeals is part of the grift.
Hmmmmmmm that plan sounds eerily familiar…..a failing Jackson
entity to be run by an appointed group with various backgrounds. However, it is 10 years old, approved by the legislature in 2016, and signed into law by then governor Phil Bryant and STILL STALLED - in court/s and NEVER enacted! The entity is, of course the airport… Which has long needed true
leadership that will bring it into the current century. So maybe that’s a nice roadmap for Jackson‘s water situation?
7:17 Why do so many whiners from the suburbs insist that Jackson voters like the present state of affairs? You will note that in most elections Jackson voters regularly change the faces on the council and the supe board. But you can only vote for the people who run and the candidates who run tend to be a very limited bunch of Democrats who can't make a real difference. No difference than in our national election where you must choose between the best of two idiots. Are you satisfied because you voted for one of them?
If they keep up with their FA
There will be much more FO
