Country music legend David Allen Coe passed on the great honky tonk up in the sky. He was 86 years old. To say he was controversial is an understatement as David Allen Coe defined controversy with his rather, um, colorful songwriting. He was truly someone who DGAF.
Those who attended his shows soon learned it was a good idea to dress cool as his contract required the venue to turn off the air conditioning. Something about he got used to living without it in prison. You might see a great show (Hal & Mal's) or see him play six songs (Texas Dance Club) or three songs (Fire) before storming off the stage, ending the show. There were no refunds. A David Allen Coe wouldn't even make it to the recording studio in today's world of bro-country and corporate country.
