State Auditor Shad White issued the following statement.
Today State Auditor Shad White announced that Special Agents from his office have arrested Rebekah Turner, former Accounts Receivable Clerk for the City of Natchez, for allegedly embezzling funds from the city. Turner allegedly took cash from deposits made to her office by other city departments and converted that money to her own personal use.“The dedicated team at the Office of the State Auditor will continue to work with prosecutors so we can continue delivering record results for taxpayers,” said State Auditor Shad White. “This is how we’ve recovered more money in the last seven years than any other seven-year period.” Turner faces up to $5,000 in fines and 20 years in prison. All persons arrested by the Mississippi Office of the State Auditor are innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.

Highly highly subjective, unfortunately
Thank you Mr. White for snatching this weasel. Why can't:
1. A self auditing check for embezzlement in all offices of MS government be instituted in the accounting software to catch these thieves at the first instance of a problem?
2. Some kind of Performance Liability policy cover such losses? even though embezzlement would still be charged with a crime, an entity would only be out the premium cost of the policy.
I would love to know what percent of embezzlers are caught. I know so many attorneys who have caught employees embezzling that I always wondered how many get away with it.
Account to ChatGpt estimates are that only 25-50% of workplace embezzlement is discovered. Yikes
What exactly is the "cost of recovery?" The line item states it is $10,754.52. Is that the cost of investigation? If so, it should definitively state that is what it is.

Why is one city dept paying another city dept in cash? Is that common?
Besides her some other people need to be fired. Where are the checks/balances/oversight? Oh wait, this is Mississippi. Nevermind. Those are no show jobs.
Have any of these bumpkin county units of government ever heard of dual signatures?
Shadrick Jambalaya rides again. I went to get my Rankin County tag last week and the staff did an excellent job. Any ideas on how we can get them on the Jambalaya for doing their jobs? The only difference is those ladies humbly work for a living with no expectation of recognition or attention.
WLBT and WJTV carried the same press release. We all publish his press releases. Do you go over to their sites and give them grief for doing so? Of course not, troll. By the way, since you are so ignorant, I will help you out. I am the only one who gets the demand letters so you can see how much money is actually in question. Not that you appreciate it.
The Rankin County tag office literally had an embezzler convicted last year
(1) by definition a troll is a person who deliberately makes offensive or provocative online posts. My post was not offensive but merely stated facts. (2) I would definitely make similar posts on WLBT and WJTV but they do not afford me the same freedom of speech opportunity. (3) it's not about the demand letters and money. It's about the repeated promotion of an elected employee simply doing his job. (4) I do appreciate the service you provide and the opportunity to express opinions on a variety of issues. I'm proposing you kiss every state employee's ass the same way you are kissing Shadricks.
Was she arrested wearing that "Wednesday" t-shirt?
I'm betting she does less than 3 years in the joint, community service and pays back about $ 2,500.00 before disappearing.
Her biggest mistake might have been: Not calling Shad and blowing the whistle on herself!
@3:02, are you serious? Rankin County is one of the most corrupt counties in the state. Your Sheriff is example #1. You sound like someone from Madison County who also believes they live in utopia, immune from all the ills of the world.
3:53: The stories are on their FB pages. Go comment under them there. Everyone publishes press releases from the Governor to Congressmen to Sheriffs to Mayors.
3:02/3:53, you’re a troll, live with it
@3:53 PM
Just don’t bother. On JJ, facts are trolling and history is Jew-hating. Why? Because reasons! He can just silence you and play god with his little queer voice and fruity ass shoes.
Y’all are here to read the news and not give kingfish grief! Lighten up people it ain’t that serious. Y’all going to stroke out over a blog!
I'm not surprised at all.
I lived in Natchez for almost twenty years and had to interact with the local government folks two or three times per
year.
This is typical Natchez.
Adams County Circuit Clerk Marion L. “Binky” Vines has been released on a $25,000 personal recognizance bond after his arrest for 13 counts of embezzlement. Vines turned himself in to the sheriff’s department on Thursday. A grand jury in Adams County had indicted Vines, said Ross Aldridge, a state Department of Audit spokesman.

Only in Mississippi can a county comptroller give away 2.7 million dollars to a scam artist over seas, not get fired for it and then get her and her staff raises. Not only that, those same employees and comptroller will double dip and get another raise in the same budget year with across the board raises for the entire county.
County Government at its finest thanks to the Oreo cookie.
I'm all for Shad arresting these bad guys, but the question remains, why is he giving the Leflore County Supervisors a pass after giving them demand letters. It is starting to look like one, or more, of them know where the real skeletons are in Shad's closet.
Now THERE's an idea.....wonder if that would stand up in court.....any takers legal boys?
How would a “self auditing check for embezzlement” in accounting software work?
Who audits the auditor?
When an employee has access to company funds and they brag about how much they are winning at the Casino’s. Take a gook look at the companies books!
Casino’s and having access to other people’s money don’t go together!
