Capitol Police K-9 Officer Tank is enjoying a successful recovery. The Mississippi State Veterinary School provided an update on his condition on social media:
Canine Officer, Tank, was recently brought to the Animal Emergency & Referral Center after sustaining an injury. He was assessed quickly by Drs. Mulligan and Kettleman, along with the clinic's talented group of veterinary technicians. Tank was surrounded and supported by all of his fellow officers while he was receiving care. After an overnight stay in the ICU for observation with Dr. Winstead and the overnight technicians, Tank was discharged by Dr. Ivey the next day. Tank and his family received quite the send-off after his stay and a well-deserved police escort for the drive home. We are super thankful Tank is okay and for his service to the community. Congrats to the AERC team on a job well done! We are proud you were there for Canine Officer Tank.

Even with the Cone of Shame, he was working on that tennis ball! Always a good sign and glad MSU has such great facilities!
He’s a good boy! Glad he’s recovering. A big thanks to the MSU vets and the whole team.
Give that good boy and his handler a juicy steak. They deserve it.
MSU vets are the best.
Where did he get shot? The person who did this is screwed
10:30 - If I chose to look at the last picture, I would think that it's where the patch of hair is missing on his left side.
10:46 They may have just shaved him there prior to placing IV tubing or some other device.
According to news reports, "K9 Tank, a canine officer with the Capitol Police Department, was injured during an officer-involved shooting near Jackson, Mississippi, on April 10, 2025. The injury occurred when a suspect opened fire on an officer, and Tank was struck by shrapnel inside the patrol vehicle. The officer was able to return for and struck the assailant."
Wonderful news! So glad he is at home and recovering. Look at the love and care from those officers. Just great. And MSU vet docs are incredible at their jobs.
Happy for Tank and thankful he got the best care at the MSU Vet School.
