The PBS program Somewhere South explored the legacy of the Chinese grocers that were part of the woven fabric of the Mississippi Delta .
Host Vivian Howard even learned how to make their version of dumplings. Interesting bit of trivia: the Chinese invented dumplings. If you want to enjoy a bit of history, check out the PBS video posted below.

I saw this one several years ago that was interesting too. https://youtu.be/2NMrqGHr5zE?feature=shared
If it doesn’t talk about Hoover Lee in Louise, then they missed out. He’s a legend.
I miss the Lee Hong Grocery in Louise. Best people, best cut ribeyes to order. It burned I think and the family matriarch died in the fire. They were MSU fans and educated there also I believe.
No Hoover Lee = no story
Hoover Lee is overrated. He came up with a steak marinate that was 99% Worcestershire.
Having grown up in the Delta, I can swear and affirm that had it not been for the Chinese grocers, all of us boys would have waited four more years to by Miller quarts.
