Richland police officer Wesley Skinner could use some help as he recovers from rather severe injuries. His Gofundmepage states:
Wesley Skinner, a Richland Police Department Narcotics Investigator and K9 handler, was involved in a car accident on Thursday, April 24, 2025, while he was responding to help fellow officers who were taking gunfire from a barricaded suspect. Wesley was transported by ambulance to UMMC and suffered an open ankle fracture, a tibial plateau fracture, a dislocated hip, an acetabulum fracture, and a fracture in his lumbar spine. Wesley underwent an extensive 8-hour surgery on Friday and will have another surgery on Monday. Wesley is currently hospitalized with an unknown discharge date. It’s too early to determine how long he will be off work but likely at least 6 months. While workers' comp will be compensating Wesley and covering his medical bills, he will be limited on any additional income. Wesley has a 7-month-old baby at home who still requires diapers, formula, daycare, etc. Let’s take some stress off by helping out with the cost of living!Wesley goes above and beyond to serve the citizens of Richland and puts his life in danger every day; it’s our turn to serve him

I donated. This is a worthy cause as on-the-job injury support/assistance for public safety employees in Mississippi is an embarrassment.
The Law Enforcement Officers Disability Trust Fund is a benefit payable in addition to workers compensation. Application available from the Mississippi Attorney General.
Yes, I will be contributing. Not to take anything away from the emphasis on Officer Skinner, I would like to know if his police dog was injured.
Was this when Hwy 49 N & S were shut down?
Wesley Skinner is one of the nicest people you would ever meet. Richland PD has great officers that care about their city. Please donate to this young family!
Yes He was in a wreck responding to the scene
That's why you have disability insurance.
@9:25 - I don't even live in Richland, but am donating to show my support for this family. You try and live on disability insurance.
I donated. I have interacted with this young man in the past, and he was extremely nice and professional.
@9:25 when you get in an accident or get the hell beat out of you, don't call the police for help because it's probably going to be your own selfish fault that it happened to you... karma is real... what these people put themselves up against would give your sorry, low down selfish ass nightmares.
I had disability insurance, for which I paid out of my own pocket. It was in a sufficient amount to replace my full paycheck, so I could live on it as easily as I could on my pay. I see no reason why most wise folks couldn't do the same thing. Don't come begging to me to pay your expenses when you aren't willing to try to pay your own way such as I did.
Everyone's circumstances are different. Sometimes you have to look beyond your own nose to notice. I've got LTD insurance but I donated anyway. Because I remember when I was young and starting a family and doing everything I could to make ends meet. A lot of LEOs and FF/EMTs work side jobs to make extra money, and he won't be mobile for quite a while.
Disability policies almost always exclude coverage for on-the-job injuries, as workers' compensation is considered the sole remedy for work related injuries, and employers are required by law to provide w/c coverage.
Also, MS w/c only pays 2/3 of the employee's normal weekly earnings, up to a capped maximum of app. $630 a week. That means this officer loses at least 1/3 of his earnings every week he's on w/c, possibly more.
So, yes, this young man is going to experience financial pain plus the pain caused by his injuries, and no, he probably wouldn't have been able to buy insurance to prevent it. Glad to see many people understand this and are pitching in to help him out.
@3:49 im sure your the same 9:25..... dont go begging for police assistance when you aren't willing or able to fight your own battle..you seem like you have it all handled... until IT hits the fan, then I'm sure you will coward down and call for help.. I HOPE and PRAY most tell you the same you are saying to this person that put him and his K-9 in harms way to protect innocent people!
In this case, it said he will likely be off work 6 months. My disability insurance wouldn't even kick in before 6 months and I would have lived off my savings and accumulated paid leave. As a public sector employee, I always made sure I had enough combination of those things to cover me, and never assumed I would get worker's comp, let alone donations.
