The Richland Police Department issued the following statement.
Last night, the Richland Police Department conducted a traffic stop on a recreational vehicle traveling along Highway 49. During the investigation, an individual produced a firearm and started shooting at officers, prompting officers to discharge their firearms. One person inside the RV has been confirmed deceased. Name of the deceased subject will not be released at this time. All lanes of Highway 49, both northbound and southbound, are currently open, with the exception of one lane. An officer responding to the scene was involved in a traffic accident and is receiving medical attention at a local hospital. This incident remains under investigation, and further details will be released as they become available. We appreciate the assistance provided by surrounding agencies that responded to this incident.Kingfish note: The case has been turned over to MBI for investigation. The deceased, his wife, and son were in the RV when the incident began. They were of Middle Eastern origin and had visas. The wife and son exited the RV. The suspect barricaded himself inside the RV and made it clear he was armed. After police fired tear gas into the RV, he shot at police and was deceased for his efforts.
The coroner said the deceased was 77 year-old Abdullah Cheftin. It is not known if he was Abdullah the Butcher.

I'm glad none of the law enforcement offices were not injured and got to go home to their families. Prayers for all of our law enforcement officers!!!!!
What was the reason for no less than 12 Capitol Police SUV's having a black pickup truck pulled over on Lakeland Dr. headed east just before the Pearl River bridge around noon yesterday?
Why is it necessary to report the race/nationality of the deceased? What difference does it make? It very well could’ve been an unhinged MAGAtard!
Show huge force to make sure you mean business and to deter others.
The person in the RV didn't hear about the incident at the Richland Wal-Mart. Richland PD don't play these silly games.
Only 12? Slackers.
Might help if The Fish would provide a definition of "RV". Was it self-contained and motorized or was it a 5th wheel or a bumper-pull camper. All of those are RVs.
People 'being in an RV' could indicate it's being driven, or it could mean it's being pulled by a truck with passengers inside the trailer, which is not legal.
@2:10
yeah, I am sure they'll mail them a ticket? WTH does it matter what kind of "RV" it was?
If you looked at the photos taken at the scene you would see that it was a full-size motor home.
Prayers for the officer who had to go to the hospital.
What a horrible man. Wife and kid and he wants a shootout with the police? Will be interesting to find out WHY he was so adamant about getting away from the police.
Never seen deceased used as a verb! I love it!
It always is amazing that someone wants to shoot at cops in a traffic stop and expects to escape. In this case in particular, was he planning to shoot the cops and leave the wife and son behind as he drove away? Did he think he would escape in an RV when every cop in region would be looking for him? Or was this another suicide by cop?
