A body was found at Parham Bridges Park this morning. WLBT reported:
Authorities have confirmed that a homicide occurred at Parham Bridges Park. On Wednesday, Jackson Police responded to the park after someone had been shot. When officers arrived, a man was lying in a pool of blood. He was found by someone who had gone to the park to play tennis.

Across the street from Jackson Academy. NE Jackson is doomed.
Been playing tennis for more than 20 years at Bridges. Played a couple of times this spring at 7:30PM (league matches) and did not feel safe. It's extremely dark in the parking lot and not one bit of security. An "unhomed" person was screaming profanity and running all around the courts recently. It's only matter of time before something worse happens. Cars have been broken into there for YEARS.
Probably Michael Byas and he is in jail for that crap.
This is terrifying. I have played at Bridges at night and have never felt safe. I will not play there at night again. The last time I played there a car backfired, and I hit the deck. Can’t play tennis and watch for murderers/thieves at the same time.
That's getting real close to Heatherton. Lock & Load.
"Perception of Murder in the Park" A new movie coming out this Fall on Hallmark. Right?
WLBT updated story to say found by tennis player, not shot by a tennis player. Sounds like overnight drug deal gone bad.
Few years ago, probably 2021, there was a tournament going on and Parham Bridges was busy wife and I went to the pro shop and picked up some rackets on sale. There was sketchy people milling around the parking lot in broad daylight.
I can't believe the MS Tennis Association makes players or teams play at Parnham Bridges as well as Battlefield or forfeit matches if they refuse when they host state tournaments or sectionals. Lots of out of town guests have no idea until they get down here how rough they can be. Cars get broke into at Parnham all the time. I've heard gun shots. F-that!
It will soon be in the CCD....Capitol Police will make a big difference!
8:55 pm - in about 2017, some young adults who lived across the street ate their take out in the park at PB. A guy followed them across the street and robbed and raped one of them. He was caught and convicted but not many places in Jackson are safe.
Perhaps cameras and lights would deter criminal/gang presence.
"Death at Parham Bridges Park" A new series on Disney +. Episode 1 to be released in October. Directed by Chowke Lumbubbles.
Wish I could say this wasn’t foreseen. Unfortunately, JPD has been notified for many recent months of loitering and suspicious activity, including specific instances of death threats being made to patrons of the park, but have done minimal to nothing about it. People in Jackson are too afraid to use public parks and other recreational facilities. Police presence is abysmal and now the community is gonna suffer (again).
Kim Wade for mayor! He's our last hope.
Sounds like horrible city governance. Fake ass Drake in a suit
I’m so ready for Capitol Police to swallow JPD. Big fish eat little fish
I hate this. Crime happens everywhere and in every city and state. Lots of good memories at that park. Use to walk it every afternoon with my mother.
I remember a number of years ago a rash of car break ins at PB. JPD did nothing. Hinds Sheriff Department McMillian came in and made drastic reductions
Now see why Mayor Mary keeps the apartment complexes out? No matter how nice they are to begin with, they always devolve into crime-ridden shitholes of filth.
Chowke's "Real Time Crime Center" will soon have this solved. Right?
They identified the victim, and his vehicle was stolen. It also appears he was a tennis player. This is just awful.
How any sane person cannot see that this park is headed the route of crime infested and dangerous Battlefield Park is beyond me. This city is declining FAST and if you can't see it, it is because you don't want to. This cancer at Parham Bridges is not new, but ignored for years, and now it is over the top.
Save yourself and move to Madison, the land of milk and honey.
Hey 8:55 it’s hard to get worse than a murdered tennis player and hey
9:14…the guy was playing tennis and was a tennis player so don’t know how “it looks like a drug deal” gets traction without knowing any details yet
Forty years ago that area might as well have been Madison. We rarely went to that part of town (or Northpark Mall) because my mom said that it was too uppity. Ha! It's a shame to see how far it has fallen.
The mgmt at Parham Bridges is amazing. They have tried to be an island of decency in the hellhole of Jackson for years. And with zero assistance from the POS mayor.
The many amazing tennis players who love that facility have done all of the upkeep.
It breaks my heart for them and I cannot image the hurdles they face from the racist leaders in Jackson.
The City With (No) Soul continues to scatter moral turpitude in all directions. Any bets that the killer is a "catch and release" beneficiary or a juvenile delinquent raised by the streets and who assigns no value to life? Wash, rinse, repeat.
@11:42 Could not agree more. City leaders should be ashamed.
Go look at the victim’s LinkedIn account… bachelors & masters from JSU, American Cancer Society volunteer, was employed as a social worker. Kid was far from gang life. What a waste. City leadership doesn’t care enough about these citizens to ensure their safety.
10:52 is soooo correct. NE Jackson...39211...was a perfect community. Perfect. Safe. Sane. Grass cut. Prideful. Clean. Friendly. Caring. Giving. Going to the grocery store was a social event....you knew everybody in there. Cashiers were polite and friendly. Now look at it.
“As Jackson turns…” Some ought to write a book
Does anyone know the boundaries of the CCID expansion that starts July 1? I know that it was part of HB 1020, but I can't find what the new area will be. Also, is HB 1020 still tied up in federal court? Maybe you can fill us in, KF.
hey, 12:48 PM, a 39211er here. Me and my family are doing just fine. And thank you for all the very nice words about the area. I still know most of the morning crew at the grocery store and just this morning, hugged a friend there too. I know my neighbors, and I would help them just as I know they would help me too. I love my little neighborhood.
@2:49 Parham Bridges won't be in the boundaries that go into effect this July 1st (stops at Northside Drive) but they will be in the boundary beginning July 1, 2025. Wish they could expedite that. CP will not blatantly ignore the crime in that area as JPD has done in the past.

@2:49 I've been looking for a map of what's covered this July and one for next July and have found nothing. I do know it made it through court, much to Lumumbas disappointment.
I'd love to have a map also if anyone can help.
No need to panic. Northeast Jackson is not what it used to be but it still is (for the most part) a good place to live. I still like the area where I live in northeast Jackson. If you don’t feel safe shopping or filling your car up with gas at a certain location in Jackson just take a short drive to Flowood or Madison to shop. It takes 15 minutes or less.
Easy solution for me & my family. We moved from Fondren neighborhood 8 years ago after our home was broken into on two occasions. Since moving to Ridgeland gated community we seldom go to Jackson- it’s not safe folks!
I’m home in NE Jackson is still located on a street filled with physicians 2 plastic surgeons a sports medicine doctor and many of them do live in NE Jackson along with the 2 in fondren neighborhoods also don’t forget Sanderson farm family lives over here as does many other business owners that work in Madison ridgeland flowood even developer of renaissance lives here as does Bloomfield the bass pro shop and trustmark park developers and Yates construction daughters family. I could go on but since you all think it’s so bad and poor over here it’s no point. Loads of money in NE Jackson and this was a rare event for the park.
@4:33 Funny. When I moved to MS, we settled in Rankin County near Old Fannin Rd. At the time, the nearest shopping was the brand new WalMart. Since we aren't a fan of WallyWorld, we drove the 15 minutes from Flowood to Jackson for most needs. Flash forward a couple of decades, and we avoid going anywhere in Jackson. It's just too dangerous.
2:49 - CCID expands up to Northside Drive on July 1 so all of Fondren will be incorporated. There was an additional expansion that went through this last session to incorporate Old Canton Road / Kroger, etc. That will go into effect July 1 of 2025.
I live in Fondren. Twice in two weeks I've heard automatic weapons fired in the middle of the day. The first time I called 911 and the operator could hear the shots over the phone. I never saw a single police car drive through. Yesterday someone drove by my house and told me it was on fire. Turned out it was the people next door burning something that made it smell like there was an electrical fire.
@9:02. Don’t call 911. It goes to JPD. Call Capitol PD. 601-359-3125. You’ll get a much faster response.
