The Pearl Police Department issued the following press release. 

Former Governor Phil Bryant wants to know who said what to Mississippi Today reporter Anna Wolfe.   Mr. Bryant subpoenaed any and all communications between Ms. Wolfe and suspected sources when he sued her employer for defamation Thursday.  However, coverage of the subpoenas was lost in all the hoopla over the lawsuit itself.  

The freedom to do anything often means one becomes a slave to masters of his own creation.  The late Dr. Frank Pollard preached those who are really free are "those who had the wisdom to choose the right master for all of us are going to be enslaved by something" in the 1995 sermon posted below. Nietzsche considered Christianity to be a slave religion but Dr. Pollard argued only Christianity sets one free from the slavery we all suffer.  Enjoy the sermon.  It's one of his better ones.

The Madison Police Department issued the following statement.

The Fifth Circuit Court of Appeals ruled the Madison Police Department did not target Mark Mayfield when it arrested the attorney for his role in the Rose Cochran nursing home scandal in 2014.  

 That wasn't long. Jackson’s newest public works director, Khalid Wood, quit before he even started the job. Looks like the city will have to look for another road manager.

Former Governor Phil Bryant sued Mississippi Today and its publisher, Mary Margaret White, for defamation in Madison County Circuit Court yesterday.  

 The Grenada Star reported an underdressed Carlos Moore arrived nearly an hour late for his own public reprimand Monday.  The story is reprinted below with the permission of the publication.  

Ted Henifin will soon be wearing another hat.  U.S. District Judge Henry Wingate issued a proposed stipulated order giving Mr. Henifin the same control he has of Jackson's water system.  

The order came as no surprise.  Despite Jackson's efforts, its sewer system is probably in worse shape than it was when the consent decree began in 2012.  The EPA announced the order in a press release posted below. 

Correction: Was having some fun with Clay today.  The Kingfish spoke to someone at Rankin SO but was not the usual contact for these things.  I was told the Florence angle and that the indictee would be going back to Raymond.  Apparently that is not the case and he will be free.  Fire away.  It happens.

 Last week I read an online article about feet. I can’t remember where I read it, or from which website I was perusing. Local businessman Socrates Garrett begged the Jackson City Council for help on the Metrocenter Mall last week after admitting he made a "bad business deal."  Mr. Garrett is a member of Retro Metro, LLC.  The company owns the former McRae's building at the mall.  A video of the short presentation is posted below.  It is quite illuminating.

 Former Governor Phil Bryant demanded Mississippi Today apologize for several statements made about him or else he would take legal action against the online publication.  Governor Bryant's attorney, Billy Quinn, sent the demand letter to Mississippi Today publisher Mary Jo White today.  The letter is posted below. 

 The Lumumbas' attempt to bully Jackson's Water Manager ended in total failure Friday as U.S. District Judge Henry Wingate say no way, Chokwe.

One of the best action-movies ever made returns to the big screen in a few weeks.  It sort of escaped notice during its first run but lived on as it became a cult classic.

A woman escaped with her life after a hoodlum shot at her by the Meadowbrook Road overpass at I-55 Friday evening.  Her mother posted on social media yesterday: 

"Do you have what it takes to build a life?  What kind of life do you want to build? How are you going to handle the jokes of life that inevitably come? How are you going to handle failure because failure will come to all of us."  Thus questioned the late Dr. Frank Pollard has he preached on using faith to build the proper foundation for a life  in the 1995 sermon posted below.  Enjoy

Mississippi is a big winner in federal defense spending according to an article by Lynn Lofton in the Mississippi Business Journal.

 The Jackson City Council voted Tuesday to terminate its Metrocenter lease with Retro Metro.  However, Retro Metro sued the city of Jackson last month for failing to pay a rent increase for nearly two years. 

Before church she asked whether she had seen me at the movie. “Yes ma’am.” She said, “There are many evil people in the world.” To which I replied, “We’re evil too!” And, she agreed heartily. “Sound of Freedom” is a provocative movie about men and women who risk their lives to save little children enslaved by sex-traffickers. In particular, it’s about Tim Ballard, a former Special Agent with Homeland Security Investigations who tracked and arrested those who possessed and distributed child pornography.

 Citing his clear commitment to upholding Second Amendment rights, the National Rifle Association Political Victory Fund (NRA-PVF) endorsed Delbert Hosemann for re-election as Lieutenant Governor in the 2023 Mississippi Republican Primary.

 Governor Tate Reeves issued the following statement.

I am one of those weird folks who like okra just about any way you might choose to prepare it. I understand there are some who will not touch okra in any form. There are some who think there is no way to rid okra of the slime, and some who just don’t like the taste. This post is not intended to convert you, because if everyone liked okra as much as I do, there might not be enough for all of us and a worldwide okra shortage would get governments involved and that would not be good for anyone.

 The wheels of justice are grinding in the Michael Corey Jenkins case.  The Mississippi Bureau of Investigation forwarded the case to the Attorney General for criminal prosecution recently.  

Tony Bennett passed away.  He was 96 years-old.  I was lucky enough to see him perform at the Saenger Theatre in New Orleans six years ago.  Even at his age, he put on a great show.  The vocals did not soar quite as high as they once did but they were still beautiful.  He sang within his range, paced himself, and left everyone feeling they saw a legend in action.  His duet album with Lady Gaga is underrated as well.  Looking forward to Marshall Ramsey's cartoon in memorium.  Thanks for it all, Mr. Bennett.

The Mississippi Attorney General recommended the Missisisppi Court of Appeals overturn the Hinds County conviction former Clinton police officer Anthony Fox for culpable negligence manslaughter in its brief filed this afternoon.  The Clinton Police Department issued the following statement:

 Mayor Chokwe Lumumba's attempt to stick his nose into the management of Jackson's water system ended in failure in a federal court room after U.S. District Judge Henry Wingate rejected his request to force Water Manager Ted Henifin to be more "transparent" while questioning his own transparency on the water system. Undeterred, Hizzoner wanted to help pick contractors and have access to all communications between the Water Manager and Judge Wingate.  To it all, Judge Wingate had one answer: no.

 The Capitol Police issued the following statement and pictures. 

A showdown over HB #1020 took place at the Mississippi Supreme Court Thursday.  The oral arguments were following their predictable paths when Justice Kitchens decided to throw a curveball at Solicitor General Scott Stewart as he defended the bill.

Update: Ridgeland police arrested Robert Herring for DUI.  He allegedly reeked of spirits and there were several empty bottles of booze in his vehicle.

 This is not something one sees every day at Renaissance. 

The late Dr. Frank Pollard named this sermon "Getting out of life alive" as he retold the story of the rich man and Lazarus in Luke 16.  Ignoring Lazarus in life, the rich man saw him again but when it was too late.   Dr. Pollard preached a message of promise, a promise of what it is to be in heaven and what it is to be in hell.  No Dr. Suess nor famous quotes were recited as he preached straight from the good book.  Enjoy.  

 Hearing “record surplus” or “best financial shape in history” followed up with proposals for new “tax cuts” from Gov. Tate Reeves, challenger Brandon Presley, and other campaigning politicians? Take those boasts with a massive grain of salt. 

A gem of a movie popped up for free on Youtube: The Big Short.  Unfortunately, there are no car chases, CGI, boobies, or gunfights although a certain word is said more than a few times.  However, the movie does have an all-star cast: Christian Bale, Bradley Pitt, Marisa Tomei, Margot Robbie, and The 40 Year-Old Virgin guy.  Oh, and the script-writing in this drama about the 2008 financial crisis is none too shabby even though it's not based on a comic book. In other words, it's a real movie.  Enjoy.

Hinds County Circuit Judge Faye Peterson gave Jordan Cummins a $500,000 bond yesterday. A Hinds County grand jury indicted Jordan Cummins for two counts of first degree murder in the deaths of Josh Spann and Auden "Jubilee" Simpkins on March 25, 2023.  The homicides took place just a few blocks away from the St. Paddy's Day Parade.

And, anyone who balked at all of the COVID-19 science, or disagreed with media’s absolute smoking-gun-proof that Trump had colluded with Russia was called a conspiracy nut?
