Cummins Gets $250,000 Bond

Hinds County Circuit Judge Faye Peterson gave Jordan Cummins a $500,000 bond yesterday. A Hinds County grand jury indicted Jordan Cummins for two counts of first degree murder in the deaths of Josh Spann and Auden "Jubilee" Simpkins on March 25, 2023.  The homicides took place just a few blocks away from the St. Paddy's Day Parade.

Hinds County Court Judge Johnny McDaniels denied Cummins bond when he was arrested.  Judge Peterson denied Cummins bond as well at his arraignment.  Cummins' lawyer, Hinds County Public Defender Carrie Jordan filed a motion for bond last month.  Judge Peterson assented to the request and granted a $250,000 bond for each charge. Cummins is still incarcerated.

This is another reason House Bill 1020 is a must. Faye Peterson is a disgrace.

Will the bail bonds folks take single wides and double wides for collateral?

Anonymous said...

Not understanding why bond was granted.

Hey 3:07... you are wrong about Faye-She is one of the best serving on the bench in Hinds.

Hey 3:44. Tell that to the victims’ families. I totally disagree.

KF is there a reason why Peterson flipped? This story seems incomplete? Is he low fight risk?

White guy commits murder in Hinds County, GOOD LUCK on bonding out.

250,000 times two so 500,000 if I read that correctly

3:44, Love it when family members get on here. He very well may have a case but a quarter mill for two deaths is a joke.

@4:03 p.m. clearly does not understand pre-trial bail. The United States and the Mississippi Constitutions say that bail is to guarantee the appearance of a criminal defendant, and it is not to be punitive. Cummings has not been convicted, so the feelings of the families of the victims is irrelevant at this juncture. Cummings is a danger to others, however, so I believe that Judge Peterson's decision is wrong.

@3:07...Peterson is actually the only decent Circuit Judge in Hinds Co. She saw through the BS with the Lampley, Barney, and Fox trial. Unfortunately, Fox ended up on his own in Wooten's courtroom. Don't get me started on the latter...

Nothing like being convicted before trial.

Wait, let me fix that: Nothing like being convicted by a bunch of clowns on the sidelines before trial.

He got bond!!! No wonder the streets are full of criminals!

The entire Hinds County judiciary is now a complete and total joke. Incompetence doesn't do it justice.

Anonymous said...

Fay was a bad lawyer and is a worse Judge. People who murder should not be out of jail on bond.

anonomous said...

I think they released him for street justice to take care of it.

Anonymous said...

If his family can't afford an attorney for him, they won't be able to put up $50k to get him out either.

Anonymous said...

I happen to have enough money to bail him out. What are the odds I will not get my money back? And how much can I make? I think. I went to Jackson State with this dude.

And, 6:15, pianos should not fall out of tenth story windows and hit people on the head. And birds should not shit on car windshields. So, you're re-writing state and federal law now, based on you think 'should be'?

Anonymous said...

6:15..Murder?? sounds like self defense to me!

Anonymous said...

6:15 PM, people who murder should also not be put on house arrest to set out their time but Jackson has done that before.

Look, Judge Peterson is the best judge in Hinds county, period. It’s not unreasonable for there to be no bond and it’s not unreasonable for a $500k bond. Personally, I’m starting to believe those charged with murder shouldn’t receive a bond unless the facts warrant them. BUT, the reality is that he won’t receive a trial in YEARS because of the backlog and incompetency of JPD, the DA’s office, and the state crime lab. Given those facts, It’s only fair that he be given a bond.

This is coming from a defense Atty who previously practiced in front of Judge Peterson. I may have disagreed with her decision, sometimes I even thought she was too light, but her decisions were always reasoned and logical based on the facts/evidence presented in front of her. The majority of ADAs in that office are incompetent. All of them are extremely overworked. She can’t make chicken salad out of chicken crap.

The other judges, nope. King/Queen on a throne.

I see a double standard here if your white and commit a double murder you get a bond na did your black like that kid who killed the snakeman you get no bond for almost 6 years

Peterson was as bad as a DA as she is a judge. At minimum one count of manslaughter should be a lock, although an argument for murder could be made.

If the other deceased party did in fact brandish a firearm there could be an argument for self defense. If the defendant was in deed observed assaulting his girlfriend that taints the claim of self defense.

The fact that he recklessly fired at and struck an innocent bystander shows that he should not be among society.

the rubes on this thread think that when a 500,000 bond is set by a judge, the defendant immediately posts it.

not quite

that would cost about $56 thousand.

how many goof ball rankin rednecks are carrying that around with them?

And more than a couple of blacks charged with murder have gotten $50,000 bonds. See Funches. Kidd used to pass out $100,000 bonds to murder suspects all the time. So did green. Look at that Hopkins case I wrote about on March 25.

Trollfest '09

Trollfest '07 was such a success that Jackson Jambalaya will once again host Trollfest '09. Catch this great event which will leave NE Jackson & Fondren in flames. Othor Cain and his band, The Black Power Structure headline the night while Sonjay Poontang returns for an encore performance. Former Frank Melton bodyguard Marcus Wright makes his premier appearance at Trollfest singing "I'm a Sweet Transvestite" from "The Rocky Horror Picture Show." Kamikaze will sing his new hit, “How I sold out to da Man.” Robbie Bell again performs: “Mamas, don't let your babies grow up to be Bells” and “Any friend of Ed Peters is a friend of mine”. After the show, Ms. Bell will autograph copies of her mug shot photos. In a salute to “Dancing with the Stars”, Ms. Bell and Hinds County District Attorney Robert Smith will dance the Wango Tango.

Wrestling returns, except this time it will be a Battle Royal with Othor Cain, Ben Allen, Kim Wade, Haley Fisackerly, Alan Lange, and “Big Cat” Donna Ladd all in the ring at the same time. The Battle Royal will be in a steel cage, no time limit, no referee, and the losers must leave town. Marshand Crisler will be the honorary referee (as it gives him a title without actually having to do anything).

Meet KIM Waaaaaade at the Entergy Tent. For five pesos, Kim will sell you a chance to win a deed to a crack house on Ridgeway Street stuffed in the Howard Industries pinata. Don't worry if the pinata is beaten to shreds, as Mr. Wade has Jose, Emmanuel, and Carlos, all illegal immigrants, available as replacements for the it. Upon leaving the Entergy tent, fig leaves will be available in case Entergy literally takes everything you have as part of its Trollfest ticket price adjustment charge.

Donna Ladd of The Jackson Free Press will give several classes on learning how to write. Smearing, writing without factchecking, and reporting only one side of a story will be covered. A donation to pay their taxes will be accepted and she will be signing copies of their former federal tax liens. Ms. Ladd will give a dramatic reading of her two award-winning essays (They received The Jackson Free Press "Best Of" awards.) "Why everything is always about me" and "Why I cover murders better than anyone else in Jackson".

In the spirit of helping those who are less fortunate, Trollfest '09 adopts a cause for which a portion of the proceeds and donations will be donated: Keeping Frank Melton in his home. The “Keep Frank Melton From Being Homeless” booth will sell chances for five dollars to pin the tail on the jackass. John Reeves has graciously volunteered to be the jackass for this honorable excursion into saving Frank's ass. What's an ass between two friends after all? If Mr. Reeves is unable to um, perform, Speaker Billy McCoy has also volunteered as when the word “jackass” was mentioned he immediately ran as fast as he could to sign up.

In order to help clean up the legal profession, Adam Kilgore of the Mississippi Bar will be giving away free, round-trip plane tickets to the North Pole where they keep their bar complaint forms (which are NOT available online). If you don't want to go to the North Pole, you can enjoy Brant Brantley's (of the Mississippi Commission on Judicial Performance) free guided tours of the quicksand field over by High Street where all complaints against judges disappear. If for some reason you are unable to control yourself, never fear; Judge Houston Patton will operate his jail where no lawyers are needed or allowed as you just sit there for minutes... hours.... months...years until he decides he is tired of you sitting in his jail. Do not think Judge Patton is a bad judge however as he plans to serve free Mad Dog 20/20 to all inmates.

Trollfest '09 is a pet-friendly event as well. Feel free to bring your dog with you and do not worry if your pet gets hungry, as employees of the Jackson Zoo will be on hand to provide some of their animals as food when it gets to be feeding time for your little loved one.

Relax at the Fox News Tent. Since there are only three blonde reporters in Jackson (being blonde is a requirement for working at Fox News), Megan and Kathryn from WAPT and Wendy from WLBT will be on loan to Fox. To gain admittance to the VIP section, bring either your Republican Party ID card or a Rebel Flag. Bringing both and a torn-up Obama yard sign will entitle you to free drinks served by Megan, Wendy, and Kathryn. Get your tickets now. Since this is an event for trolls, no ID is required. Just bring the hate. Bring the family, Trollfest '09 is for EVERYONE!!!

This is definitely a Beaver production.
