The Greater Jackson Arts Council Turnip has Blood

It is said one can't get blood out of a turnip but Jake Slinkard might get some blood out of the Greater Jackson Arts Council after all. JJ reported on May 15:

GJAC hired Jake Slinkard to provide media production services.  He agreed to provide 6 half-days of production for $2,400 per month.  He provided media production from May 2022 to October 2022.  GJAC paid the videographer per the terms of the contract from May to July.

Managing Director Jon Salem was Mr. Slinkard's "primary contact" at GJAC.  However, Executive Director Silbrina Wright fired the Managing Director in August 2022.  The complaint claimed she told Mr. Slinkard his August payment was being processed and he would be paid "soon."  GJAC finally paid him in September but only for September's work.  Mr. Slinkard said he was not paid in August, October, or November.  He tried to contact Ms. Wright numerous times about his payment but she blocked both of his phone numbers.

The videographer sued the organization on November 15, 2022 in Hinds County Circuit Court for breach of contract.  The summons was returned on December 5. The Greater Jackson Arts Council never responded to the lawsuit.  Mr. Slinkard applied for default on December 30, 2022.  The clerk entered the default on January 12, 2023.  The plaintiff filed a motion for default judgment on the same day.  The motion asked for $57,600 in damages.

Judge Wooten held a hearing on April 24 and ruled against the defendant.  Attorney Jack Simpson of Langston and Lott represented the plaintiff.

Mr. Salem filed a wrongful termination lawsuit against his former employer in Rankin County Circuit Court in March.

Mr. Slinkard filed a writ of garnishment against Trustmark Bank for any funds held for GJAC.  Trustmark replied on July 12 that the Greater Jackson Arts Council had deposits of $23,588 at the bank.

The plaintiff wasted no time in filing a motion for disbursement of funds yesterday.  Mr. Slinkard also filed a writ of garnishment against JP Morgan Chase.

Stay tuned.  The turnip may soon bleed.

What’s the status of Ms Wright?

Must have missed it somewhere in your coverage. So there are funds parked at JP Morgan Chase?

"GJAC is a socially grounded and engaged nonprofit that supports fostering healthy cultural ecosystems in our community through artistic and creative solutions that increase diversity, access, and opportunities". Typical Nonsense. Webpage "Coming Soon" & not updated in 2 years, "Keith Haring Fitness Court, "Ours will debut this fall!" Oops thats from 2021. Photo of Ms. Wright but couldn't manage to post one that's not fuzzy.... kinda like the whole organization. Business as usual Jackistan indeed.

From the February 26, 2021 issue of the Jackson Free/You Get What You Pay For Press: "“I was immediately impressed with [Silbrina Wright's] diligence and creativity,” GJAC Board President-Elect Julian Miller said in a phone interview. “She came in and hit the ground running and was really a breath of fresh air in thinking about how to make the organization innovative and relevant to addressing the systemic issues of social injustice and economic injustice in the Jackson area.”

Only in the Most Radical City in America would an arts council be used to launder taxpayer money for "systemic issues of social injustice and economic injustice."

Good job collecting on that judgment!!

Over the years, this organization (founded in 1979) has done great work in supporting local artists and arts programs. In less than two years it's been completely destroyed by a corrupt, incompetent social justice grifter. This is the fruit of virtue-signaling in the hiring process.

Great news for the plaintiff.

I hope he collects every dime and empties all of their accounts.

Well they ran off the evil white woman Janet Scott and got this.....

There aren't any indictments yet?

Besides Julian Miller (a practicing attorney?) who is left on the GJAC board? I’ve heard most have resigned in fear and shame. Also hearing that this group will be facing big problems with MS State Tax Commission and IRS for dodging employment taxes by paying all their employees as ‘independent contractors.” Tax violations fall in the category of things board members can be held PERSONALLY responsible for! Let’s see, two lawsuits, Shad White’s office, MS Secretary of State’s office, will Dog the Bounty Hunter be going after these crooks next?

That is the bottom line. If this had been in reverse we would be seeing the "race card" in spades. See a pattern in Jackson anyone?

I’m on the board of an arts organization that used to receive funding from GJAC. It ended when this “director” took over. Needless to say, I’m not surprised as to what happened.

Don't forget the connection to Lumumba's pals in Georgia and their grant skimming operation that KF wrote about some months back.

4:49's spot on.

Why is the ONLY reporting of this CRIMINAL activity here on JJ? 8:07 is exactly right. Were races reversed and Janet Scott in charge, this would be news everywhere.

If Mr. Slinkard gets all the money in the Trustmark account, how will they pay for the next Disney World trip? I know somebody who knows somebody who has seen the GJAC American Express statements, and the story on those is that the charges are absolutely crazy. Lots of Door Dash and local hotel charges. Maybe the board of directors is having wild orgies, lol. Has nobody in that outfit heard of damage control? Every story that comes out it gets worse and worse. What a clown car. The board is full of lawyers and doctors too. Guess you can still be dumb as fuck even with all the education in the world.

How long does a change of venue request take? The suit was filed in Rankin County but the defense immediately filed for change of venue to Hinds. Clearly their hope is to get it into their own backyard where influence and relationships can be taken full advantage of.

And according to Silbrina Wright’s Facebook page she is still executive director. How? Not just how, but executive director of what? Is that agency not shuttered at this point?

Trollfest '09

Trollfest '07 was such a success that Jackson Jambalaya will once again host Trollfest '09. Catch this great event which will leave NE Jackson & Fondren in flames. Othor Cain and his band, The Black Power Structure headline the night while Sonjay Poontang returns for an encore performance. Former Frank Melton bodyguard Marcus Wright makes his premier appearance at Trollfest singing "I'm a Sweet Transvestite" from "The Rocky Horror Picture Show." Kamikaze will sing his new hit, “How I sold out to da Man.” Robbie Bell again performs: “Mamas, don't let your babies grow up to be Bells” and “Any friend of Ed Peters is a friend of mine”. After the show, Ms. Bell will autograph copies of her mug shot photos. In a salute to “Dancing with the Stars”, Ms. Bell and Hinds County District Attorney Robert Smith will dance the Wango Tango.

Wrestling returns, except this time it will be a Battle Royal with Othor Cain, Ben Allen, Kim Wade, Haley Fisackerly, Alan Lange, and “Big Cat” Donna Ladd all in the ring at the same time. The Battle Royal will be in a steel cage, no time limit, no referee, and the losers must leave town. Marshand Crisler will be the honorary referee (as it gives him a title without actually having to do anything).

Meet KIM Waaaaaade at the Entergy Tent. For five pesos, Kim will sell you a chance to win a deed to a crack house on Ridgeway Street stuffed in the Howard Industries pinata. Don't worry if the pinata is beaten to shreds, as Mr. Wade has Jose, Emmanuel, and Carlos, all illegal immigrants, available as replacements for the it. Upon leaving the Entergy tent, fig leaves will be available in case Entergy literally takes everything you have as part of its Trollfest ticket price adjustment charge.

Donna Ladd of The Jackson Free Press will give several classes on learning how to write. Smearing, writing without factchecking, and reporting only one side of a story will be covered. A donation to pay their taxes will be accepted and she will be signing copies of their former federal tax liens. Ms. Ladd will give a dramatic reading of her two award-winning essays (They received The Jackson Free Press "Best Of" awards.) "Why everything is always about me" and "Why I cover murders better than anyone else in Jackson".

In the spirit of helping those who are less fortunate, Trollfest '09 adopts a cause for which a portion of the proceeds and donations will be donated: Keeping Frank Melton in his home. The “Keep Frank Melton From Being Homeless” booth will sell chances for five dollars to pin the tail on the jackass. John Reeves has graciously volunteered to be the jackass for this honorable excursion into saving Frank's ass. What's an ass between two friends after all? If Mr. Reeves is unable to um, perform, Speaker Billy McCoy has also volunteered as when the word “jackass” was mentioned he immediately ran as fast as he could to sign up.

In order to help clean up the legal profession, Adam Kilgore of the Mississippi Bar will be giving away free, round-trip plane tickets to the North Pole where they keep their bar complaint forms (which are NOT available online). If you don't want to go to the North Pole, you can enjoy Brant Brantley's (of the Mississippi Commission on Judicial Performance) free guided tours of the quicksand field over by High Street where all complaints against judges disappear. If for some reason you are unable to control yourself, never fear; Judge Houston Patton will operate his jail where no lawyers are needed or allowed as you just sit there for minutes... hours.... months...years until he decides he is tired of you sitting in his jail. Do not think Judge Patton is a bad judge however as he plans to serve free Mad Dog 20/20 to all inmates.

Trollfest '09 is a pet-friendly event as well. Feel free to bring your dog with you and do not worry if your pet gets hungry, as employees of the Jackson Zoo will be on hand to provide some of their animals as food when it gets to be feeding time for your little loved one.

Relax at the Fox News Tent. Since there are only three blonde reporters in Jackson (being blonde is a requirement for working at Fox News), Megan and Kathryn from WAPT and Wendy from WLBT will be on loan to Fox. To gain admittance to the VIP section, bring either your Republican Party ID card or a Rebel Flag. Bringing both and a torn-up Obama yard sign will entitle you to free drinks served by Megan, Wendy, and Kathryn. Get your tickets now. Since this is an event for trolls, no ID is required. Just bring the hate. Bring the family, Trollfest '09 is for EVERYONE!!!

This is definitely a Beaver production.
