JPD charged 17 year-old Zachary Stevens with capital murder in the death of a three-month old baby on June 5. The homicide took place on May 31.
A Jackson Municipal Court judge ruled Stevens is a danger to society and denied bond for him. JPD Detective Stephanie Nurse alleged in her affidavit that Stevens:
did willfully, and unlawfully, feloniously at 5231 Old Byram Rd, without authority of law and of his malice aforethought, kill murder (3) month old Timothy Cayden Lepard ,by leaving the infant unattended, while said defendant was engaged in the commission of [Felony Child Neglect (97-5-39-(1 )) in violation of Mississippi Code Section 97-7-19(2)
Stevens is in custody at the Henley-Young Youth Detention Center.

I mean this is a horrible situation and come on, but a 17 year old kid who left a baby unattended isn't what I would call "murder"
I would call it stupid and childish
but I wouldn't refer to it as "murder"
Someone leaving a child alone wouldn't have his/her bond denied as well as a Judge stating he was a danger to society. Apparently there is much more to this case then what is read.
Sounds as if your bleeding heart may be getting the best of you.
If you are so concerned for this poor unfortunate youth, use him as a babysitter when and if he gets out.
Did you, dear readers, know that the Henley Young Youth Detention Center has NO running water? Can somebody look into this?
Does whoever wrote the complaint know how to speak English?
Does whomever wrote the complaint know how to speak English?
Ditto 5:08.
More to this than reported.
@4:25 - I agree. Capital Murder and no bond is odd for a case like this especially for a 17 year old defendant. Something isn’t adding up.
He definately has potential as a baby-sitter for the bleeding hearts. Oh wait, they are closet NIMBYs.
Just because this person left this baby unattended, did not change its diapers, did not feed this child, did not nurture this baby, did not shelter and show love for a pleading, desperate child, is certainly no reason to hold any animosity against a uncaring, worthless parent.
@6:10 - care to fill in the details for the rest of us?
If this charge is based off of Scott Benton saying its abuse, it deserves a serious look. He over-finds abuse.
My question- Where's MOM?
An interview on one of local tv channels said there were signs of trauma to the baby
If he is the parent, why didn't the child share his last name? He's 17. The mother is probably 16, pregnant at four days past 15.
Not only where the mother of the child is or was but why is this baby listed in this list of the bodies that were found behind the jail?
