Entergy: Crew Was NOT Under Fire

This rather disturbing message appeared on social media yesterday:

Unfortunately, the report is true as Entergy confirmed the shooting happened to WAPT.  The incident took place on Buckley Drive (off Meadowbrook Road near St. Andrew's School).  No one was injured. WAPT story.

Another social media post reporting the same or similar incident also stated Capitol Police was called.  JJ checked with DPS.  The agency said Capitol Police did not receive a call for such an incident.

Update: Entergy provided the following statement to JJ

Our crews were working near Buckley Drive yesterday when they heard shots fired. It wasn’t targeted at them. Police asked them to stand down while they investigated. None of our crews or equipment was damaged. They were later able to return and continue working.

Probably because Entergy's crews were working too slowly. See the Central MS Public Service Commissioner complaining about Entergy's response.

They have to get the lights on to keep the mary jane crop from dying.

@9:49

So shooting em will speed up the process? lol

Buckley isn't exactly in the hood it's right by the St. Andrew's lower school.

@954 in these fools minds yes. When you wan something done you draw guns laws of the streets.

If I were one of the Entergy crew members who took on fire, I would demand police protection and body armor before going back on the job. Will see if our gum flapping mayor addresses this, right?

Anonymous said...

The Tallahassee group should say "life's too short, see ya"

This thing called Jackson-

Y'all think Chokwe will address this? You've lost your damn mind. He wants this. That beta won't stand up for anything other than grifting and being seen in the spotlight when everyone else laughs at him.

I would walk if I was on that crew. These are not soldiers or policemen they are line workers. I would go home. Jackson is doing its best to make Detroit and Chicago look upscale. What a huge embarrassment. I'm proud of MS but extremely embarrassed by Jackson. I live in Hattiesburg. I had some co-workers coming through Jackson to Hattiesburg and year ago. I told them to get gas or food in Gluckstadt/Madison or Richland and not to stop in Jackson. They thought I was joking and got off on Fortification. While trying to get turned around and back on I55 they heard automatic gunfire.

Stop all wok, say bye and drive away never to return again. Someone will get the message.

All of Jackson is the hood now.

The linemen should have "lit them up."

Anonymous said...

This is why most of Madison County has its power back on, while Chowke's city owned generator is humming away.

Anonymous said...

None of this is new, fire trucks and amberlamps would take fire in certain neighborhoods as far back as the late 80's and early 90's. It's not limited to Jackistan, there are other cities with the same cultural afflictions.

I am no politician and its possible, that I don't speak for the majority here, BUT..... I have seen linemen and Energy Crews from all over working nonstop! In Sunday's lightening storm, the trucks were out and the workmen were in their bucket trucks working..I think cheering workers on sure as $hit beats anything Central District Public Service Commissioner Brent Bailey has to say. I was without power for quite some time myself, but at no point in time did I sit back in my air conditioned office and talk trash during an interview.

Anonymous said...

Clearly this is the result of racism of some kind

Anonymous said...

@10:46 AM ..."lit them up." Ha! I see what you did there.

Anonymous said...

Central District PSC commissioner is pandering. However, don't judge too quickly because every fucking politician does it these days - see Shad's post about DEI for another example. But, not to be outdone Chokwe is really good at it too - see story about water filters.

All you Entergy employees that are chastising the commissioner need to get back to work.

Lost power Sunday evening due to a fallen tree in my neighborhood in Ridgeland. I was fully expecting to be without power for a couple of days, at least, given the number of outages (there were significant outages in north Louisiana and south Arkansas, whole towns without power, involving Entergy customers as well as a large swath in Mississippi). But we had power back by Monday evening, a little less than 24 hours. I’m grateful.

Like the Chicago school buses, when working in Jackistan the linemen need tail gunners.

Why are folks so quick to reward mediocrity these days? After Friday morning's storm, Entergy trucks didn't start arriving until Sunday - some 48 hours later. These were storms that they knew had caused chaos in Texas and Louisiana. Applauding Entergy or giving them compliments like oh they're working hard is why we've lost American exceptionalism. Must be the all the participation trophies driving it for the past 30 years. Folks, drum up some testosterone and demand better of companies, especially those granted government immunity from competition.

Entergy like all corporations has its problems, But I do know that when the crap hits the fan the linemen work their butts off in the
Worse conditions possible. How would you like to be in a bucket truck or hanging from a power pole in those conditions. Yep, they are making double and triple time wages but are earning every penny.

Madison County always get drugged into Chokwe’s mess!! We want nothing to do with our Capital city until a new Mayor is elected. We the citizens of Madison, Gluckstadt, Canton, Ridgeland, and Flora etc. are living our best lives up here!!!! Democratic leadership has turned Jackson into a great big joke!! Sad!!’

@1:18 you are absolutely correct. It’s their dam job. Don’t sign up for it, if you don’t want it. They had no plan for 48 hrs. Being without power for that l9ng is very expensive no matter what your demographics are. Gas for generators, hotels, spoiled food, and having to buy food to eat.

Anonymous said...

Did y'all know that the non-local Entergy crews could not get hotel rooms locally because they filled up with local residents? This required that they commute to/from Grenada?

Anonymous said...

4:12, that is more blame for Entergy's poor planning. They should have reserved rooms for the remote workers.

Anonymous said...

Don't believe anything you hear and only half of what you see.

Anonymous said...

4:12. That's called "being late to the game". Already in the 2nd/3rd inning...

In times like these, line crews, regardless of door-logo, march to the drumbeat of nobody other than their union contract.

Trollfest '09

Trollfest '07 was such a success that Jackson Jambalaya will once again host Trollfest '09. Catch this great event which will leave NE Jackson & Fondren in flames. Othor Cain and his band, The Black Power Structure headline the night while Sonjay Poontang returns for an encore performance. Former Frank Melton bodyguard Marcus Wright makes his premier appearance at Trollfest singing "I'm a Sweet Transvestite" from "The Rocky Horror Picture Show." Kamikaze will sing his new hit, “How I sold out to da Man.” Robbie Bell again performs: “Mamas, don't let your babies grow up to be Bells” and “Any friend of Ed Peters is a friend of mine”. After the show, Ms. Bell will autograph copies of her mug shot photos. In a salute to “Dancing with the Stars”, Ms. Bell and Hinds County District Attorney Robert Smith will dance the Wango Tango.

Wrestling returns, except this time it will be a Battle Royal with Othor Cain, Ben Allen, Kim Wade, Haley Fisackerly, Alan Lange, and “Big Cat” Donna Ladd all in the ring at the same time. The Battle Royal will be in a steel cage, no time limit, no referee, and the losers must leave town. Marshand Crisler will be the honorary referee (as it gives him a title without actually having to do anything).

Meet KIM Waaaaaade at the Entergy Tent. For five pesos, Kim will sell you a chance to win a deed to a crack house on Ridgeway Street stuffed in the Howard Industries pinata. Don't worry if the pinata is beaten to shreds, as Mr. Wade has Jose, Emmanuel, and Carlos, all illegal immigrants, available as replacements for the it. Upon leaving the Entergy tent, fig leaves will be available in case Entergy literally takes everything you have as part of its Trollfest ticket price adjustment charge.

Donna Ladd of The Jackson Free Press will give several classes on learning how to write. Smearing, writing without factchecking, and reporting only one side of a story will be covered. A donation to pay their taxes will be accepted and she will be signing copies of their former federal tax liens. Ms. Ladd will give a dramatic reading of her two award-winning essays (They received The Jackson Free Press "Best Of" awards.) "Why everything is always about me" and "Why I cover murders better than anyone else in Jackson".

In the spirit of helping those who are less fortunate, Trollfest '09 adopts a cause for which a portion of the proceeds and donations will be donated: Keeping Frank Melton in his home. The “Keep Frank Melton From Being Homeless” booth will sell chances for five dollars to pin the tail on the jackass. John Reeves has graciously volunteered to be the jackass for this honorable excursion into saving Frank's ass. What's an ass between two friends after all? If Mr. Reeves is unable to um, perform, Speaker Billy McCoy has also volunteered as when the word “jackass” was mentioned he immediately ran as fast as he could to sign up.

In order to help clean up the legal profession, Adam Kilgore of the Mississippi Bar will be giving away free, round-trip plane tickets to the North Pole where they keep their bar complaint forms (which are NOT available online). If you don't want to go to the North Pole, you can enjoy Brant Brantley's (of the Mississippi Commission on Judicial Performance) free guided tours of the quicksand field over by High Street where all complaints against judges disappear. If for some reason you are unable to control yourself, never fear; Judge Houston Patton will operate his jail where no lawyers are needed or allowed as you just sit there for minutes... hours.... months...years until he decides he is tired of you sitting in his jail. Do not think Judge Patton is a bad judge however as he plans to serve free Mad Dog 20/20 to all inmates.

Trollfest '09 is a pet-friendly event as well. Feel free to bring your dog with you and do not worry if your pet gets hungry, as employees of the Jackson Zoo will be on hand to provide some of their animals as food when it gets to be feeding time for your little loved one.

Relax at the Fox News Tent. Since there are only three blonde reporters in Jackson (being blonde is a requirement for working at Fox News), Megan and Kathryn from WAPT and Wendy from WLBT will be on loan to Fox. To gain admittance to the VIP section, bring either your Republican Party ID card or a Rebel Flag. Bringing both and a torn-up Obama yard sign will entitle you to free drinks served by Megan, Wendy, and Kathryn. Get your tickets now. Since this is an event for trolls, no ID is required. Just bring the hate. Bring the family, Trollfest '09 is for EVERYONE!!!

This is definitely a Beaver production.
