Lt. Governor Delbert Hosemann released his second TV spot, reviving the popular “bench” themed ads with a new co-star: former Moss Point and Ocean Springs educator Vivian Dailey.
“Delbert’s ads are well-known throughout the state because they add humor and are positive while still sharing serious information about his platform and accomplishments,” said Dailey, a Jackson County resident. “I was thrilled to be asked to participate and help in his reelection campaign.”
Hosemann first released a version of the iconic ad in his 2007 run for Secretary of State, playing on his unique name to tell viewers about his goals if elected. In the original ads, a woman - "Dorothy" - sits beside him on a park bench and continually messes up his first name while touting his platform. Hosemann politely corrects her by replying, “It’s Delbert, ma’am.”
“I have been a big fan of Vivian’s for a long time, so it was an honor to communicate our conservative record to voters with her help,” Hosemann said. “We have accomplished a lot in four years. We are putting the pedal to the metal in the next four.”
In the new commercial, Dailey touts Hosemann’s first-term leadership on issues like eliminating pornographic material from school libraries and requiring sports to be played by biological gender. Dailey, however, flubs Hosemann’s first name, calling him “Gilbert,” “Herbert,” and “Englebert.”
In the end, Dailey sternly addresses Hosemann: “Are you questioning my facts?” He responds, “No, ma’am.”
The Republican Primary Election for Lieutenant Governor is August 8. The General Election is November 7.
