Tragedy!

WARNING: GRAPHIC & DISTURBING PHOTO POSTED BELOW

A 15-year old sophomore at Murrah High School committed suicide yesterday.

The young woman walked out of class yesterday morning to the Woodrow Wilson overpass at I-55.  As cars flew by, she stood at the edge of the structure, pondering her last thoughts for several minutes until she took one, last final action.

Although her ending was not reported in the media, social media was ablaze with horror and sorrow as Facebook chatter provided more information.

One individual called 911 several times as he saw the young woman straddling the guard rail.

JPD ignored protocol and didn't call AMR to the scene.  The ambulance would have transported her to UMC.  JPD instead called the Coroner and yes, the mother was at the scene.

The Facebook unconfirmed chatter (and that is what it is, chatter) said she had it tough at home and was bullied at school.  Comments about her weight were the last straw as she wrote something during the first block, told a teacher she was going to kill herself in the second block, and walked out of the school.  One student asked on social media why no one could stop her when "they have security guards all in our school."

A life lost for no reason.  JPS issued the following statement:

On behalf of Superintendent Dr. Errick L. Greene, please accept the following statement regarding the recent death of a high school scholar.

The Jackson Public School District is deeply saddened by the recent death of a Murrah high school scholar. We extend our deepest condolences to the family, classmates, and to all Murrah High School team members. We have implemented our District’s emergency response plan to provide needed supports during this difficult time. Counselors are available to assist scholars at the school building. We ask for your thoughts and prayers on behalf of all the loved ones affected by this terrible loss.

“We ask for your thoughts and prayers on behalf of all the loved ones affected by this terrible loss." Hoorah.

The young woman's death should have never happened. Pummeled by the demons of life, bullied at school, suffering at home, she saw no hope, just a life of pain, a barrage of blows from which there was no escape.  She thought she had no place on this earth as she meant nothing  - just a cold entry in a ledger of souls born to this world.  It took  her some time to walk to the bridge.  What was she thinking?Did she wonder if  anyone truly cared about her? Was she ignored by everyone and tormented by all? How many times did she reach out only to receive the backhand of despair?  Such are the questions that will never be answered and are asked only when it is too late.

She took wing yesterday.  Rest easy, little girl, may your suffering be over.

I saw a picture circulated yesterday of her. She was a pretty young lady. Not fat in the least from what I could tell. Even if she was, who cares. Kids, or people in general are so mean these days. It's sad. Social media these days exacerbate the situation. Always choose to be kind.

Rest in peace sweet angel. I'm sorry no one was there for you...

As long as we as a society ignore MH, we will continue to have these situations. They can be reduced if people would listen and act on what they hear. If what happened at the school is accurate, they need to be held criminally and civilly responsible.

Sounds like this child was failed by adults at every level possible.

The truth is the leadership of Jackson doesn’t care. Now if she were called a racist name then those same “leaders” , if you want to call them that, would be crawling thru fire and broken glass to condemn and appear outraged in front of the nearest tv camera.

This hurts my heart so much. I am crying as I read this. This poor child felt so alone and thought this was her only way out. I pray that her death won’t be in vain and hopefully will help others realize how much their actions can impact others.

same ole story with 911 operators...sorry asses simply don't want to work and are not held accountable.

My heart breaks for the pain she must have endured to accept such an irreversible solution as her best option.

I am so sorry that this poor young lady did not have more loving adults in her life.

I know we can't save someone that does not want to be saved, but young people need responsible adults to help them see that things are not as big as high school time frames may make make them seem.

Why would this not be a major news story ? If a car accident had caused the backup on the interstate I bet wapt would have covered it. On the other hand maybe it’s respect for the family, but if we don’t talk about these incidents we’re adding to the stigma of suicide among teens. While most of you are bitching about what city or county is better or what restaurants sucks the most this young girl and many other teens are in no-win situations. The worst part about that is nobody really cares as long as we are not alerted to it. Instead of calling out my mistakes or telling me my opinion is wrong let’s smile and lift each other up.

Some teacher/staff saw this young child being bullied and did very little to help her situation! This saddens me! Administrators are so concerned on keeping the numbers up and letting these little devils terrorize the students. Not just this school!

Maybe just maybe, this incident may open eyes and save other kids.

My prayers

There are several teachers and administrators at Murrah High School that need to resign over this. Word is that she actively let them know and they blew her off as "seeking attention."

They let her walk out of class. The security and administration let her walk out of the school building. Its not far, but its not a short walk from the school to that overpass. And someone filmed her jumping. Someone said it was a classmate and someone said it was an adult that stopped. Either way, that person is awful. Not only did they film it instead of helping, they went home and posted it.

Sadly this is par for the course in the cargo cult city with fake teachers and fake police with rubberstamped credentials. The poor girl's toxic culture and community failed her when she needed them the most.

Prayers sent.

This young lady exposed the teachers, staff , police and administrators of this school as uncaring frauds! Of course not all the employees, just the ones that are offended by this post!

And may this young lady Rest In Peace.

You don’t have to have a meeting to talk about bullying, just nip it in the bud. You know who they are!

You hate to see stuff like this happen, but school is brutal if you're a loner. I had my fair share of fights in JPS and at Piney Woods, thankfully social media did not exist. I would've likely met the same fate if anyone at school found out that I came from a broken home due to the 80s crack epidemic.

911 my ass!

Anonymous said...

Obviously, there were many who either bullied her or ignored her cries for help. And, sadly, even the 911 calls went unanswered.
How much more can be done to get the attention of parents, teachers, counselors, administrators, law enforcement? Where is the humanity? The capital city of our state has failing schools, the highest crime rate per capita, eroding infrastructure, and the list goes on and on. Enough of the excuses and blame game! This child should have had someone (an adult) in her life to pay attention to what was going on and should have been able to count on somebody! How desperate she must have been! Prayers.

Anonymous said...

And no motorists that passed by her on that bridge stopped and tried to stop her from jumping?!?!

Anonymous said...

Terrible.

Kids are so damn mean.

Doesn't Jackson contract out its 911 service to an outfit in Atlanta because the city doesn't have enough qualified local operators / dispatchers? Time for an update on staffing levels at Jackson's 911 operation & quality of service provided.

Anonymous said...

I pray that if I ever see someone in this situation, no matter how busy I am or late for something I think is very important, that I have the wisdom and discernment to pull over and do my best to talk them off the ledge.

Yeah, I got to counter this!? Because instead of looking at what's going on in and around Jackson and why things are in their current condition or reached this point, someone just had to come to take a shot!?

Well, we can turn that same talking point around and say the state as a whole does not care about Jackson either!?

The residents of Jackson care, because we still live here! Then get ridiculed for staying!?

The state of Mississippi as a whole failed that young lady. We have a piss poor mental health care system - that should have been under federal receivership a long time ago, just like Hinds County Jail.

If everything I have read here is accurate, this girl was failed at multiple levels AT SCHOOL, where this tragedy could POSSIBLY have been prevented. My overall takeaway is that the only post, above, of lasting value, is at February 17, 2022 at 2:10 PM.

Typically, we never get the message that tells us to intervene or help. We only, later, wonder why and what if and we wonder that for the rest of our lives. We usually don't know to help. My dad committed suicide.

Anonymous said...

Damn. Based on KF’s incoherent writing, someone who doesn’t know him might think he knew and cared about the child.
Fake ass motherfucker. Knowing you, you probably pushed her into traffic.

Wtf? Gadfly will post anything for comments. Get a job.

If someone in my family met this demise, I know I would take on so much blame and guilt for not intervening.

If I were employed at her school, I would also internalize large amounts of blame and guilt.

It breaks my heart that she was surrounded by a society as demonstrated here, that wants to blame the State (?) somehow.

So many professional victims out there today that only seek to attach blame to the person with the most significant money source that can be civilly prosecuted.

The failure of the nuclear family will ruin our species while we beg the idiots in government to save us.

She did not deserve this. May she find peace and true love finally in her afterlife.

This poor child needed help and there was no one there and yet the school is supposed to be a place where the children can confide in someone. The family let her down and this NEVER should have happened. God rest her soul

I saw her yesterday as I sped down I55. A women did stop, she was on the East side and would have to cross three lanes on a blind curve to get to her. It took me 2mins and 10 seconds to get 911. She then transferred me to Hinds emergency management. HEM said not their area and were going to transfer me. By that time I was in Rankin so just hung up.

A few months ago on 55 south at lemuria broad street area I was in the fast lane and a big ladder fell off a work truck who was also in fast lane. All cars and my car were able to
Avoid it. But I called 911 to try and report a road blockage. It rang for over six minutes. I called *HP and they answered and said it was in city and to call 911. Told them I did and no one answered. They said let me connect you a different way. It rang for ten minutes and I hung up. What on earth if I or someone else was in actual danger?

IMO unanswered 911 calls are a clear breach of the social contract existing between citizens and the government. It's the other side of the coin of someone running from the Jackson police when the lights come on. You pull over. And the City should answer the emergency 911 call. That's the deal, or should be. None of the problems in Jackson will be fixed until there is a consequence/punishment for the incompetence. Courts are the only avenue for redress. The people running Jackson aren't reading these comments and feeling bad about their job performance. And until the legislature repeals or amends the Mississippi Tort Claims Act to allow juries (not judges) to award meaningful recovery for negligent performance of public employee duties (or broader federal law recoveries are allowed) nothing is going to change. You want the City of Jackson to answer the 911 calls as they are required by law to do? Then create a consequence - financial or otherwise - a remedy for not doing it and causing harm. Fix the water system? Sue the city for not providing water and damages caused by loss of use of the house when the plumbing doesn't work due to lack of water pressure. We treat private entities that way and it works better. Ford doesn't make the Pinto anymore because of negative financial consequences, not because it was the right thing to do. It's ridiculous to expect a city official or employee to do anything different if there is no consequence to the misbehavior or incompetence. I know that and my kids and my pets know that. And the only way to do it is to fine them - money damages - as there is no political will to jail anybody for incompetence. Do the taxpayers foot the bill? Yes, to the extent there is no insurance to cover the claims. But that cost will incentivize the taxpayers/voters to elect competent people, or if not, the city goes bankrupt quickly and is run by imposed managers who are overseen by more responsible people who are motivated to fix the problem. Turn some hungry lawyers loose on them. (I mean hire somebody to fix the problems at the City's expense, that's a better way to to say it.)

JPS has always had a problem with bullying. I graduated HS from C-Way in 1996. I was bullied and the school did nothing. Now even in 2022 same problem. These teacher don’t care and the administration don’t care. How was a student able to walk out the school ? What does JPS plan to do about their bullying issues?

I had a cousin who graduated from Callaway in ‘96. She was bullied for exactly one day. The next day, one of my cousins and I beat the bully’s ass. Problem solved.

Twice I called 911 but no answer as I saw this young lady jump. No answer. I then tried twice to reach the JPD but no answer. I finally reached the Hinds County Sheriff and they said units had been dispatched. It was absolutely horrifying. Two days earlier I was driving south on I55 and had just passed the Nissan plant. There was a young lady with a backpack walking north on the shoulder of the interstate. I noticed that she was looking over the side of the barrier. I thought she must be looking for a way to get off the highway. I called the Madison County Sheriff and told them that there was a lady walking north along the interstate and that it look like she needed help. The dispatcher said that she would send someone. After seeing the young lady that jumped, I wonder, was it the same person? They had the same color hair and build? Still can’t get that sight out of my mind. She needed help! Where was it? As someone stated previously, she was failed by the State of Mississippi! God rest her soul

So many ...so much sadness in this childs life by all accounts .Honestly, has the school bully changed much in 100 years ? Other than the fact the he or she now can create his or her own online bully army. The bully hasn't changed....there are just more of them now . Social Media/20 years to soon and now we reap.

Murrah high does not care one bit about their students, from what i've heard the teacher that she told that she was going to kill herself completely ignored her and did nothing about it. She was a very young girl. I can't believe everyone is ok with bullying in any sort of way.

"As long as we as a society ignore MH, we will continue to have these situations." @ 12:03pm pm

As long as a society ignores who brings children into the world with not intention of providing for them, protecting them, and shepherding them into adulthood to be self-sufficient, well-adjusted adults - then we will continue to have these situations.

Fixed it for ya.

When I was a 5th grader, an older male bully terrorized children on the school bus. One day, pouring rain, I asked the bully to please close his window because the rain was blowing on me, seated behind him. He smirked, refused, acted like jackass. My little self stood up, picked him up by his shirt, and slammed him down to the center aisle floor, then closed his window and sat back down in my seat and looked at the bus driver, expecting to get into huge trouble for doing it. I saw the driver's eyes in the rearview mirror and he was laughing. I am a girl, the bully outweighed me by about 30 pounds, but something snapped in me and adrenaline kicked in. Long story short, that asshole never bullied anyone again on the bus, ashamed that a little girl beat him up, I guess, and I never heard another word about what I did.

I wish the 15 y/o girl had had someone to encourage her to stand up for herself. I wish her failed parents had protected their child. I wish the school had listened to her. I wish 911 calls were answered and responded to. Failure all the way around in this tragic event.

If you complain about the pot holes in the street you are a racist.
If you complain about the water system you are a racist.
If you complain about the sewer spew in the city you are a racist.
If you complain about the crime you are a racist.
If you complain about no cops when you need one you are a racist.
If you complain about no one answering 911 calls you are a racist.

Can anyone see what they all have in common?

This story is so sad. Not just because of the failure of the school system, or her teachers, or her friends,or JPS and 911, but I fully blame those teens that bullied this young lady.I place blame fully at their feet. I hope that they live with this guilt for quite awhile. Although to be real, it probably doesn't bother them because it would mean that they had a heart. We all know that they don't because they bullied a young person about weight, how stupid!

2:23 said my thoughts as well.
But let me expand on them.

If you raised a child that is one of the bullies, you are garbage.
Parents of these little monsters are just as guilty.

Trollfest '09

Trollfest '07 was such a success that Jackson Jambalaya will once again host Trollfest '09. Catch this great event which will leave NE Jackson & Fondren in flames. Othor Cain and his band, The Black Power Structure headline the night while Sonjay Poontang returns for an encore performance. Former Frank Melton bodyguard Marcus Wright makes his premier appearance at Trollfest singing "I'm a Sweet Transvestite" from "The Rocky Horror Picture Show." Kamikaze will sing his new hit, “How I sold out to da Man.” Robbie Bell again performs: “Mamas, don't let your babies grow up to be Bells” and “Any friend of Ed Peters is a friend of mine”. After the show, Ms. Bell will autograph copies of her mug shot photos. In a salute to “Dancing with the Stars”, Ms. Bell and Hinds County District Attorney Robert Smith will dance the Wango Tango.

Wrestling returns, except this time it will be a Battle Royal with Othor Cain, Ben Allen, Kim Wade, Haley Fisackerly, Alan Lange, and “Big Cat” Donna Ladd all in the ring at the same time. The Battle Royal will be in a steel cage, no time limit, no referee, and the losers must leave town. Marshand Crisler will be the honorary referee (as it gives him a title without actually having to do anything).

Meet KIM Waaaaaade at the Entergy Tent. For five pesos, Kim will sell you a chance to win a deed to a crack house on Ridgeway Street stuffed in the Howard Industries pinata. Don't worry if the pinata is beaten to shreds, as Mr. Wade has Jose, Emmanuel, and Carlos, all illegal immigrants, available as replacements for the it. Upon leaving the Entergy tent, fig leaves will be available in case Entergy literally takes everything you have as part of its Trollfest ticket price adjustment charge.

Donna Ladd of The Jackson Free Press will give several classes on learning how to write. Smearing, writing without factchecking, and reporting only one side of a story will be covered. A donation to pay their taxes will be accepted and she will be signing copies of their former federal tax liens. Ms. Ladd will give a dramatic reading of her two award-winning essays (They received The Jackson Free Press "Best Of" awards.) "Why everything is always about me" and "Why I cover murders better than anyone else in Jackson".

In the spirit of helping those who are less fortunate, Trollfest '09 adopts a cause for which a portion of the proceeds and donations will be donated: Keeping Frank Melton in his home. The “Keep Frank Melton From Being Homeless” booth will sell chances for five dollars to pin the tail on the jackass. John Reeves has graciously volunteered to be the jackass for this honorable excursion into saving Frank's ass. What's an ass between two friends after all? If Mr. Reeves is unable to um, perform, Speaker Billy McCoy has also volunteered as when the word “jackass” was mentioned he immediately ran as fast as he could to sign up.

In order to help clean up the legal profession, Adam Kilgore of the Mississippi Bar will be giving away free, round-trip plane tickets to the North Pole where they keep their bar complaint forms (which are NOT available online). If you don't want to go to the North Pole, you can enjoy Brant Brantley's (of the Mississippi Commission on Judicial Performance) free guided tours of the quicksand field over by High Street where all complaints against judges disappear. If for some reason you are unable to control yourself, never fear; Judge Houston Patton will operate his jail where no lawyers are needed or allowed as you just sit there for minutes... hours.... months...years until he decides he is tired of you sitting in his jail. Do not think Judge Patton is a bad judge however as he plans to serve free Mad Dog 20/20 to all inmates.

Trollfest '09 is a pet-friendly event as well. Feel free to bring your dog with you and do not worry if your pet gets hungry, as employees of the Jackson Zoo will be on hand to provide some of their animals as food when it gets to be feeding time for your little loved one.

Relax at the Fox News Tent. Since there are only three blonde reporters in Jackson (being blonde is a requirement for working at Fox News), Megan and Kathryn from WAPT and Wendy from WLBT will be on loan to Fox. To gain admittance to the VIP section, bring either your Republican Party ID card or a Rebel Flag. Bringing both and a torn-up Obama yard sign will entitle you to free drinks served by Megan, Wendy, and Kathryn. Get your tickets now. Since this is an event for trolls, no ID is required. This is definitely a Beaver production.
