The Department of Human Services issued the following statement.
A Hinds County, Miss. resident and former employee has been arrested for embezzlement following an investigation conducted by the Investigations Division of the Mississippi Department of Human Service (MDHS).
Investigators found that Lashanda Feazell, while Director of Procurement at MDHS, used the agency’s credit card to pay her personal cellular phone bills in the amount of $5,741.39 during the period of August 2018 through January 2021.
Based on the evidence obtained during the internal investigation, the matter was referred to the Hinds County District Attorney Office for criminal prosecution after terminating her employment. The Hinds County District Attorney secured an indictment on December 14, 2021, and Feazell later turned herself into MDHS and Hinds County officials on Monday, February 28, 2022.
“This investigation demonstrates the strengthened controls we have put in place to identify, investigate, and prosecute fraud, waste, and abuse at any level, by any individual,” MDHS Executive Director Robert G. “Bob” Anderson said.
Suspected fraud can be reported to MDHS online any time by submitting the MDHS Fraud Tip Form at https://www.mdhs.ms.gov/

Bruce Willis is a corrupt Jackson police chief in the movie ? OMFG how was this even thought up ? You got people sitting around thinking stuff up . Was it Lahchumpbo's idea ?
The problem is not that she misused a credit card.
The problem is that she had one in the first place.
First to drop the "small fish" thing . Sadly it's true though......Not sure if bragging about fraud that will be paid from her savings is at all scary. We need a big hitter Shad. I appreciate what you are doing and would love to be part of it ! But damn. It is as if you are telling the "Sip" as you call it that there are no higher ups in Hinds County mis using funds. Then now or ever. Full on F250 4 WHEEL DRIVE that isn't part of EOC not enough to spark a bit of thought into the matter ?
Shad didn't do this, doofus.
I think it's quite funny he's living rent-free in your brain. That must mean either you're a sad person, or he's the only public official doing his job well.
Get with it doofus. Having a Ford 250 (Full on even) Four Wheel Drive is not illegal. It might not be smart. It might not be good government.
But incompetent government is not illegal, and not the job of Shad or anyone else except for the voters to deal with.
If whoever has this Ford 250 that you are constantly bitching about and trying to call out Shad on - purchased it properly (i.e. approved by board if this is a supervisor as you have suggested earlier; on the minutes; purchased on contract) then there is not a damn thing for Shad to be investigating.
But since you make this claim about once every week, please tell us all what it is that was illegal that needs to be investigated.
F250 jealousy
3 freaking years and no one in her Chain of Command saw this. Who kept approving this?
No wonder John Davis kept this shigity up for so long, who’s guarding the hen house?
I knew this young lady, really sad! I hope those calls were worth it!
What we need to know is…who was she calling during those 30 mths…for her bills to be that damn high??
Live sex lines? She should’ve gotten a Hugh Freeze burner phone.
Have someone reviewing government credit card statements?
Matching government credit card statements with purchase orders and invoices?
Deppity Pheel never showed us how to do that!
To the person complaining about the F250, Shad has a tip line. Send it in. Hell put your name and a contact number on it. But I bet you won’t.
Don't you just love some Public corruption? People do anything for money. Sleep with their father. Sleep with their father's friends. Steal HUD funds. Sell their empty souls.
Shad said Phil Bryants was the whistleblower.
If Phil can do blow the whistle then anyone can do it!
Relates to 'span of control' and 'segregation of duties'. When the same chicken-plucker is responsible for collecting and counting the eggs, washing and boxing and selling them, depositing the money and documenting the books....chances are he's going to take the occasional dozen home. Oh, he's also quality control so he only plans to test them in his own kitchen.
Whoever drives the F-250 must live in a muddy, rutted district. Furthermore, the purchase of it was approved by the board.
By the way, it's a Ford that is obviously being used to pull county-owned Chevys out of the ditch.
They give credit cards to employees at DHS??? That's just asking for trouble.
7:25 - Anybody in charge of or in a purchasing capacity has to have a credit card. They are not required to steal, however.
But your veiled attempt to portray black folk as undeserving is noted.
Giving credit cards to government employees is asking for theft. During my career I worked for a city, a county, and retired from a state agency. I traveled extensively nationally and occasionally internationally, and never had, nor needed, a credit card.
I had the unfortunate privilege of dealing with Ms. Feazell while she was employed by the good people of Hinds County.
Completely unqualified and incompetent for a Director of Procurement position. She had a lot of responsibility for taxpayer money and couldn't balance her own checkbook. She probably thought it was her right to pay her personal bills with taxpayer money.
And this is the problem with Jackson/Hinds County. There are dozens of people in charge of little departments that you don't think of that aren't qualified to run a lemonade stand.
8:04 - What the hell has place or type of employment got to do with a propensity to steal? People who steal using credit cards include ministers, corporate CEOs, newspaper publishers, lawyers, dentists, doctors, donut makers and hairdressers.
Nobody gives a rats ass about your career or your travels or your reimbursement plan (which is also wide open to cheating, as you no doubt knew - wink, wink).
Who,,,me!!! I didn't do nothing.
I will never ever again from my run down trailer house here in Rankin County make snide comments about elected and appointed folks riding around in brand new trucks. I'm all trolled out and rather tired of this blog. Predicting what the stories will be here day to day takes all the fun out of it. Good day. Instead I will become a named caller into the KWS and CES every day. That seems way more fun.
State officials and county supervisors also ride in far more expensive vehicles than needed. Why does a Supervisor need a Tahoe, especially one with a police package.
11:37 - Take a gander at that lot full of black vehicles assigned to Madison County Tax Collector Kay Pace. There are usually at least six of those black vehicles parked behind the Madison tag office where that crazed branch manager is in charge. If I'm wrong and they're the property of the Tax Assessor, the same alert is given. Meanwhile the ditches here are horrendously full of trash and the county roads remain pothole-central.
Two of the county supervisors are coasting, with no opposition, and not caring beyond this term and the other three are in it for the corruption.
Some people have ulterior motives when they apply for jobs, Day 1 is to start scheming, Lol, when do the $hit shows stop
No matter how big or small the theft is, a thief is a thief. It does not belong to you, It's not yours, What part do people not get, Morons!
Where was her supervisor? Where was the Director of her Division? Guess they were both too busy talking on their cell phones to know what their employee was doing for years.
I’d like to go back and hear the speech/press conference from the Governor when he first hired John Davis at DHS. “ he’s a good man with lots of experience that will bring this agency to Nancy New heights”, correction new heights”!
Where was this young ladies supervisor in the last three years, probably shredding John Davis papers! It all about that budget, baby!
Both supervisors with heads up their asses gloating with pride. Good job my people, good job!
1:20: At least the Assessors office use the vehicles errrr need them. The collector wouldn't.
someone should look into medicaid fraud by specialty pharmacies.
8:48 - If the Assessor's office 'needs them', why are there always a motor pool full of them parked behind that office location during daylight hours? And let's not forget who pays for them. Hopefully they don't have police package engines, Sirius Radio subscription and retractable running-boards.
When you don't have to pay for something, but can get it at your request, you suddenly need a lot more of it.
6:10 : I was just sayin.
